Last year had me worried that we were just going to get sequels until the end of time. But peoples obsession with live demos and "show me gameplay!" always amuses me. Gameplay demos of unfinished games are cobbled together for the show alone and barely work, or just run on scripts. Its like people demanding to be lied to. If not some variety of gameplay for an unfinished game, what would you have them show you? I personally am just happy to see anything, cut scenes to just exploration. Or like Just Cause where they just showed canned film of shit blowing up. Even the Starwar Battlefront stuff was cool to see and looked pretty. I just laugh when people freak out that the entire scene seems scripted or not live gameplay. Especially on games that are not coming out in the fall. I get that the shown gameplay won't be representative of the finished product, as there will be changes before we see anything from them. They might even be fake (see Rome 2: Total War), but I would argue that the closer a game is to coming out, the more gameplay should be shown (if possible), or even current screenshots. The reason is due to how well the tone is being captured - you can tell a lot about the tone they're trying to present, which is really important to how well the game holds out. It totally agree that the previews are useful and they do give people an idea of what the developers are shooting for. It’s the fervor around them. Taking screen shots and picking them apart. Making image break downs with lines pointing to features that changed or are bad because its not like the last game. Complaining that the video didn’t show any real combat when the game isn’t coming out for a full year. All of that just seems more and more comical as I learned about the game industry and how they are made. And how all games are on fire until the last 6 months when they come together.

That trailer they put out a while ago was pretty good for scripted gameplay with overdubbed voices

why use g-sync to make 40 frames a second look like 60 when you can just get 60 to begin with?

But its a risk because it takes a lot of time away from the development team and you might show stuff that won't make it to the final game.

I mean it's clearly for the upper end budgets anyway. Freesync is hopefully a lot cheaper though since it doesn't require a proprietary module be built into the monitor. The main problem imo is not being able to get both on a monitor and thus getting locked into one GPU manufacturer if you want to use it.

But you are right that they justify it as marketing.
