Yeah, that appeared to be the crux of the migration, was that people wanted to post illegally obtained stuff and people's home addresses and 4chan said "Fuck no, have you heard of the FBI?". So under the guises of freedom of speech and the trafficking of information, they created 8chan.

doesnt count dont be a nazi pls

There are a bunch of Stormfront sections of 8chan as well, but I don't think Godwin's law applies when you are talking about modern day Nazis. I think you need to bring it up in support of another argument.

technically it only counts when a comparison to hitler or nazism is made.

Well, considering that 4chan is actually heavily moderated that is not really any surprise, is it? Hell they even have a page to publicly display recent bans to show people examples of the shit that gets you banned.

To my knowledge Godwin's Law only applies when you're comparing someone to Hitler and/or Nazis to dismiss what they're saying. If they actually ARE Nazis it doesn't count, nor does it count if you're talking about WW2. It also doesn't count if you bring it up sarcastically or deliberately to try and invoke Godwin.
As far as the chans go...I heard somewhere that a lot of people left 4chan recently for 8chan because the 4chan owner was a buddy of someone involved in some gaming controversy and was deleting stuff from talking about it. Dunno much more though.

hey guys have you read platon

The exactly definition by Godwin(per Wikipedia, but it had a good citation):
"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches"
So all online discussions lead to Nazis if you talk long enough. All roads lead to Hitler.

Funny, last time I was in Rome it really bore no resemblance to Hitler.

Maybe if you stick a false moustache on it there'll be a resemblance? Needs more research.

wasnt the first part of his post only the explanation of what erasme said and the second part a really really old joke?

Rome was wayyyy too accepting of foreigners to be compared to hitler (you know, after they exterminated half of their population...THEN they were welcome)

I wanted to make that joke earlier but I thought no one would get it..especially since we might have some people from the southern hemisphere.
