I have a request: please recommend good books for my book club. We're looking for sci-fi/fantasy (more things to talk about), preferably standalone, MUST be good, not too long coz we meet every 3 weeks and have some slower readers. I'm asking everywhere and fucking nobody has anything. Do people not read anymore wtf

I'm not really familiar with normal definitions of short. Here's some though : Sci-fi Player of Games by Iain M. Banks. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by PKD (while bladerunner is based on it, they have very different stories) Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe (only if you like short but extremely difficult language-wise reads) Fantasy: Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman - a psuedo sequel to American Gods, it's a nice and short comedy that's a standalone.

(and - I just agree with Passive that it doesn't really feel to me like there's a story here for "LD does something that bucks the every-web-forum-on-the-internet-is-declining trend". It's still a huge bummer though - I grew up on web forums and strongly prefer them to Reddit and I don't think that's just nostalgia)

forums like nadota, TL, joindota, etc. were bound to die just as IRC, ventrilo, mumble, and teamspeak all came to pass before them it's not TL's fault nor any of the staff, be thankful that it happened rather than resentful that it's changed I will cherish my #TL-ABL memories of explaining to motbob how I have absolutely no clue who the past 5 banned users were and have never met them in my entire life

Added to the list Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by PKD (while bladerunner is based on it, they have very different stories) We're currently reading Man in the High Castle by Philadelphia Penis himself, so I dunno about this one. Also, try to be a bit more original Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe (only if you like short but extremely difficult language-wise reads)We're fresh off a Gene Wolfe read and let me tell you. That book was not difficult language wise, it was probably the most I've ever been insulted by the quality of prose. It read like a hasty first draft AND a bad stream of consciousness book. I'm passing Fantasy: Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman - a psuedo sequel to American Gods, it's a nice and short comedy that's a standalone. As you might have noticed by my sense of humor, I don't hold comedy in particularly high regard. Are shows like tech startups nowadays? You develop a promising prototype and then sell it off to a corporation??? So many second seasons seem to miss the mark + Show Spoiler + I'm fully aware those writer nerds only have ideas for a season tops even if they think they have more. I swear to god, people need to stop starting storied before they know what the ending is and how to get there
