I've been trying to play/learn league the last few months and honestly that level of info is what you get, except you have to get it outside the client (can't read enemy/ally hero skills in-game) and it makes the game so fucking impossible to learn.
https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/pyke/
As an example. It amuses the shit out of me, because when dota 2 came out a lot of league's design talk was on 'burden of knowledge' but the client is so fucking awful that burden of knowledge is actually an impassable wall in the game.
The game itself is not bad, but holyfuck the client is a garbage fire.

Well, I think the way they handle their weird runes/mastery or w/e it's called system is part of why, since it'd be super obvious to a new player that they're doing 30% less dmg/heal on every skill than the maxed out lifetime player, rather than just something that you learn.
It's probably that AND some really shitty coding. Is it still in adobe air?
|
Do you still have to buy the runes you need in the shop? That part of LoL is just super dumb

Nah there's a pregame "rune" page that you can edit and control, but levelling up your account gives you more control over the rune pages, not directly more power. It'd be like if dota had/let you lock in your talent trees and adjust your stat growths before the game - you gain some flexibility that you can use to match your goals, but it isn't anything super gamebreaking, and for low level accounts it just assigns 'default' values and doesnt let you adjust them.
Also it isn't at all super obvious if someone is doing 30% more damage than you, because there's practically no disincentive towards smurfing and the game is very snowbally, so if you're starting the game and playing against smurfs, you probably just get evaporated.
The problems arise because you have virtually no tools to determine what happened. You can't read your opponent's abilities in-game, the death recap is notoriously broken and useless, and the normal external media (champ spotlights / google) provides outdated or broken data. Coming from dota, its a super shitty game to learn, because almost the whole game is expected to operate on feel rather than data.

thanks for clearing this up man

It's either a coincidence or social strand system is some callback to the S3 plan from MGS2.

I also find the new tooltips are baffling and useless for runes. Instead of telling you useful things at a glance like cooldowns or what they've given you (extra HP/armor) they sometimes give you really meaningless statistics, like "you've done X damage with this ability" and stuff.
