Sure Guinsoo made Invoker, Enigma and Roshan but people seem to hold him on the same level as IceFrog because of LoL. Most don't, to be honest, at least those who have been around for a while. I apprciate what guinsoo did - he started up allstars, did his best for a while, but he really was terrible at balancing the game and making it great - ice did the huge majority of the work for that.

I do think I've heard Valve stating they are aware of the issue and have some kind of plan, but completelly solving the issue is probally impossible. Maybe number of games played will be a bigger part of the matchmaking, so smurfs only affect new players, pretty similar to the leveling/verified system other games use.

My name is Nilrem and I... have a smurf account *cries*. Actually in all honesty, smurf accoutns will always occur, and I think they are ok to a degree. I do not think smurfing is inherently wrong, but what makes it wrong is the reasoning behind it. For example, Iccup had various smurf accounts to play primarily as a single race (like one just for Zerg). In DotA 2, I have an account that I use to play seriously. Whereas the other account is for playing with friends who are brand new to the game, who are worse than computers on the worst setting. Ends up being not about winning, but having fun, testing new heroes, and even potentially playing divine courage for kicks and giggles. If someone uses a smurf account and just plays Huskar non-stop for the sake of stomping, I think that is lame. But if wanting to learn to play invoker, it is helpful. Of course, I know people will hate me for having one, talk trash, etc. which I accept and understand and I wont be angry. I play the way that I do, simple as that. As for what will happen upon release. It was mentioned that there may be premium accounts (similar to tf2). If that were to happen, they would probably make it so all current accounts automatically become one and in future, you have to buy a single item. As for Sc2, that is difficult to say. I do not think there were as many smurf accounts in low leagues as some would suggest. Unless you are someone that does not want to be recognized, it almost comes off as a waste of money. From my experience, a lot of the "smurfs" were main accounts but people who dropped themselves to lower league to well, farm wins for portraits. I know I dropped myself down to bronze once just so I can random and learn all the races as I raise myself back to the league so my ability to play all races matched the league (I wasn't able to get as far as random, and it taught me to play all the races within reason). There are probably many other reasons why they do it but none that seems worthwhile.

If you constantly play that way in your account, be it your only one or one of many, your MMR will adjust to the way you play and everything is ok. The issue is only with people that constantly make new accounts to cheat the system and force themselfs into a lower MMR bracket. It would be the same thing if you only had a single account but were able to insta-quit games a drop to a lower MMR. Multiple accounts are fine and I doubt anyone will hate you for it.

It's really sad how awful the MM will match players if you aren't relatively close in MMR. It's literally impossible for me to get good games with a few of my friends. They're complete stomps for or against us. I hate to say it cause HoN had so many issues but once you were at least 1800 the matches were matched so much better. You could queue with 1400 people and it'd still give you competitive games. I think the problem with dota's internal MM is that it's too vauge and broad. Right now all the player can see is "normal, high, very high" but the skill in these brackets have huge descrepancies. I mostly get 'very high' games unless the queue is taking forever or I'm queueing with friends that are 'high'. It's just odd though because while every now and again I'll get HIGH rated games, so does my handicap friend who is mostly in the normal grouping. If we both got a game against each other in 'HIGH' he would be utterly stomped as he's not very good. I hope they do something to fix the matchmaking because as it stands unless you're about dead even with the person you're queuing, the games are a crapshoot. And even then, there are a ton of bad games when it mixes 2+3, vs 4+1 or 2+3 vs 5, 2+3 vs 2+3, ugh it's a mess.

Seems unlikely, also I'm sure valve will either change the ranking quickly for these people or just ban their steam accounts. Did it, was totally worth it.

It has a lot to do with team dynamics and how it's very hard to judge how people will work together. It's also very hard to judge a "very high" players ability to lead a group to victory. You know a lot about map control and where other heroes will be and cooldowns and such, but do you actively use that information to put your team in a winning position. Do you try to do so and they just don't listen? Simply put there are too many variables in team play to accurately represent them, especially when you're talking about multiple stacks like the 2+3 or 1+4s.

Oh I never claimed it would be easy and fully understand the difficulties in matching 2 equal teams of 5. However I think if they added more variables to their rating (hopefully they do) it could lead to better match making. While Dota is by far the best game, the Dota 2 matchmaker is severely lacking when compared to HoN or LoL (less experience in this one) and is by far the worst.
