I have no idea how to find it though, sorry.
edit: and the guy above me posts it while I'm typing this, like a boss. Search function ftw :D I know, I just had no idea what to actually search for lol.

Pretty much. They wanted to directly advertise it to everyone that played DotA. I don't know whether there was actually an argument or simply a mutual disagreement but it resulted in DA being shut down and Playdota coming up.

Hmm. Once DotA2 is fully released, what is to stop people spamming new Steam accounts for lots of smurfs for pubstomping fun?

Think I read somewhere that the hero names would return in DotA 2 at some point

You can assume there will be free- and premium-accounts like in TF2. Just some restrictions in trading and Backpack capacity. Suddenly everyone will play his own account because of the items.

I was thinking they should do something like require certain amount worth of games/money spent on your account to play the game for free. I'm not saying you should have to own entire steam library but just a couple non f2p games.
Even if you're coming to steam just for DotA 2, you could just buy couple old valve games/DotA items or something and you can play it for almost free. Game is worth more than most Triple-As anyway.
Might be too much but somekind of anti-smurf is needed.

People do it on SC2 as well if you haven't noticed, and thats without being able to smurf free. I'm talking about Master players losing MMR till they can stomp Bronzies.

Yes. In HoN for example groups of friends would create smurfs and all 5 of them would go stomp low mmr newbies just for fun. It happened pretty often.

I am guessing the battlepoint system can help that a tiny bit but ye nothing really can stop people smurfing.

People do it in HoN because hon is notorious for having terribly mannered players.
In dota there is absolutely no reason to do so there is no fun to be had in completely one sided games, nor is there fun in having to deal with terrible players on your team when you know things could be played much better. Dota is far more like brood war in this regard. players do not really seek to go backwards in dota nor BW. Pub games are rife with issues (leavers ect) so even pubstomping has to be combine with trolling ect ect to even get a game to last long enough. Again requires an incredibly immature playerbase.
I just see absolutely no reason to ever smurf in dota 2.

I just see absolutely no reason to ever smurf in dota 2. I have absolutely no idea where you're getting this idea from, but there were a lot of smurfs in low level games for both SC2 and HoN. If Dota 2 is completely free, then there WILL be a crap ton of smurfs just because you don't need to pay a single cent or to tank your MMR down.
Welcome to the gaming community, where 90% of the playerbase is incredibly immature.

People will do it in Dota2 as well.

It's just incomprehensible

People are dicks in all games. DotA 2 will be no different from HoN etc, it would be naive to assume otherwise. That's what I'm worried about.
