Now I understand this. You gotta pick the best heroes you play, and most importantly, you gotta pick those that are overall great heroes for their respective roles. My question is, would having a hero like Spiritbreaker, Juggernaut or Sven be completely useless in pro games? Or they just don't wanna take risks and play safe?

http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198004861670 ~60 games played, roles I like so far are melee strength carries and support. I am on a lot when I don't have to work/school. Voice communication really preferred, especially when playing with newer people to go over plays talk out strategies, etc. Additionally, since our hero threads are very lacking atm can I post hero specific questions here or is that better suited for simple answers. Look forward to playing with TL.

Since when is drum a support item? Drum is pretty much one of THE most cost-effective items, cheaper than an ult orb with the same stats + movespeed and an awesome active, it's a GREAT item, as already mentioned, it's a bad mentality that more than 1 drum on a team is bad. I always get a drum either before or after my bloodstone on lesh. My question is, would having a hero like Spiritbreaker, Juggernaut or Sven be completely useless in pro games? Or they just don't wanna take risks and play safe? It's because some heroes are more reliable than others, and in some cases are simply better or fit the meta better. Juggernaut is occasionally picked and does well. Sven isn't really picked anymore but he's not a bad pick, there are just heroes that fulfill his role a bit better. And spirit breaker is a horrible hero with practically no spot in any line-up what so ever competitively. And the Competitive hero pool in DotA2 is actually pretty big, IMHO. And it also comes up to the teams and players that is on your team and that you're against, mouz loves their SD kunkka and has made it very effective, most other teams wont touch it. So yea.

For example, alchemist is a walking liability. Technically, his ulti makes him a really really strong hard carry, but he's virtually useless before he gets that farm. Compare that to morphling, which has good burst damage/escape in the form of waveform (hahaha), and has utility once he gets a few core items. Other heroes aren't played often because other heroes get the job done better. Mirana is rarely ever used (except against PB lol) because WR can do what mirana does, but much better. Other heroes like sven are really easily countered. Purge him and his ulti is dispelled (I think?) and it makes him move at crawling speed.

My question is, would having a hero like Spiritbreaker, Juggernaut or Sven be completely useless in pro games? Or they just don't wanna take risks and play safe? Well look at the pool used often: Split pushing + Mobility Morph Brood Tinker Prophet Veno Lone Druid Enigma Anti-Mage Leshrac Team fight Tidehunter Dark Seer Invoker Rubick Siren Brewmaster Earthshaker Ganking Crystal Maiden Storm spirit Shadow shaman Ancient apparition Shadow Demon Vengeful Spirit Nightstalker Chaos Knight Beastmaster Sand King those are the most common picks not in any order at all. These for the most part are characters that are versatile and not set into a specific strategy. For instance sand king is an incredible ganking hero but can also be used as a setup stun in lane AND as counter push AND as mid game teamfight now the rest of the cast is either niche characters, very skill based, or generally difficult to use effectively against coordinated teams. then on top of that there are meta changes between split push based, gank based or team fight based. certain heroes are bad against certain strategies, which force them to be picked in last 2 slots. which opens them to being banned if the conditions are right, OR just not picked in favor of countering the enemy instead. it's not that the others are bad, it's just that versatility is the name of the game for the first three picks and the last two picks have to have the right conditions to be the "fringe" heroes.

Ahahah MoM is insane. I was tinker mid against sf, and i was up 1/0. So his friend wisp decides its killing time. As you know wisp doesnt exactly have a reliable stun. They ran to me, I MoM then run under the tower. Wisp dies to tower + MoM. Sf dies to MoM. Rofl
