It heavily depends on your resolution. I use an old monitor and play on 1280x1024. It sucks. I compared it to my friend's widescreen monitor, and he sees almost twice as much on his than me.

Wow, I just noticed the javelin has a passive called pierce. How the hell hell have I never noticed it before? I always thought of it as nothing but a +dmg item and never looked at it any closer. Not like it matters at all but it's just fucking weird to learn something new about an item you buy all the time.

Not exactly, take a look at this screen:

You can see that the screen covers basically the same amount of terrain, maybe even a little more in Dota 2. But in Dota 2 you can change resolution and this can have a pretty big impact on how much you can see, since it apears they not only crop the sides, they also change the viewing distance, as you can see from the screenshots in this thread:

Those are old pictures but I don't believe anything really changed about it.

I also play in 4:3, it's not bad as long as you crank up that scroll speed (which you should do anyway). I do blame it for the disproportionate amount of hooks and arrows I catch though, naturally.

Isn't techies perma-disabled in -cm mode? ... Might play that mode for a couple weeks after hes released.

What the. The resolution thing is completely retarded. I was bitching that it feels too far zoomed in from the very beginning and I never knew it was based on aspect ratio.

Note the teal part from the fountain and the rocks on the right side. -_-

May I just ask, didn't Artstyle play in Navi before?

To be honest, I don't see a diference in viewing distance in those two images. If you look at landmarks on the top and bottom, they are pretty close to each other. Obviously one of them will show more land on the sides, the other options would be adding black bars or distorting the image, not really things most people want in a game. I really don't think there is a issue between 16:10 and 16: 9. 4:3 is a bigger problem and I'm still not convinced it's such a huge deal, considering there is no easy solution for the issue.

Of course there is no difference between top and bottom, but on the sides that's a pretty big chunk being cut off. I'm completely fine with black bars, at least I'd appreciate the option to get them. At the moment if I want the bigger PoV 16 offers I have to run it in windowmode+see part of my desktop. That's just not acceptable.
Gonna dig some forums if there's a custom solution to this. >_>

it's really not that big of a deal, what're you gonna see that u would've missed with a bit of extra screen room on the sides

Well it's pretty insignificant but it upgrades to the Minibash in MKB, which is a nice bit of elegant game design.
