I don't actually have anything against EE. I'm honest when I say I don't think he's a top-tier carry but he's done a lot of good things for his team and for Alliance and I respect the effort he puts into the game.
This is pretty much exactly what people said about both Xboct and Loda when he was in Zenith. Guess some player in every team just get so much shit until they reach a TI final so the 2k rating superstars maybe understand that they might have undervalue'd them.
Still blows my mind that Xboct got a 4/10 carry. How off can some peoples judgement be...?
xboct makes too many questionnable plays to be a top tier carry
wow and you call yourself a carry player at heart, xboct is the TITS mang, THE FUCKING TITS.
I've gone from an Xbox detractor to a big Xbox fan. I maintain that he's improved a lot but its possible it was only my perception.
Loda, I still think he's passable but by far the least important part of his team. If he was less of a conceited prick it might be easier to think of him as a top tier carry. It's hard to argue with results like his.
xboct is what you get when you cross an aggressive player with someone that needs help carrying his balls around because of how big they are. Ontop of that he seems to have improved as a player and have gotten a bigger hero pool to play up from essentially AM and a few others like juggernaut and other bfury carries(Back during TI2)
I'll never forget all his rapiers in his gyro-game vs DK at MLG. Such a good game.

I was the same, and for me the turning point was Na'Vi's China bootcamp pre-TI3. From watching their involvement in Chinese tournaments, Dendi and XBOCT in particular showed visible improvement IMO over those few weeks, more so than the other members of Na'Vi.

Wait wow, that's incredible. I knew DOTA2 had great aesthetic design, but this...
Even just the Axe using Culling Blade on a PL illusion felt like a part of a major battle. I want to watch replays of big teamfights at super-slow speed in that wonky spectating mode now.
Loda used to be the best carry player. And I don't mean like 7 years ago, I mean last year. He was the most consistent, and I know all of you like to say that he's just getting carried. But every other carry in the world, regardless of how good people said their supports were, weren't getting caught out as little as he was. Wasn't joining all the right fights. Finding farm when they were greatly behind. He might have died here and there, but almost never when it was actually game-losing. Etc... By every measurable way, he was.
This year, he's playing quite mediocre. And again, people could say that's because of the rest of the team not playing well. But there was a period at the end of last year where Alliance weren't doing well, but Loda was still very consistent and did what he needed/could do. Now, that's not really the case.
XBOCT now is more like what Loda was when he was good. He plays his role, he doesn't make game-ending mistakes. Which is rare for carries.
Meanwhile, a 100 minute game vs 4FC and Dogma is being played in the Fragbite tournament. There are multiple couriers flying around with Necro 3's on them. There's a Viper with 700 lasthits.

Yes, that was about the turning point. He pretty clearly put a lot of work in around that time. He was never close to as bad as his detractors claimed but he tightened up a bunch then.
Since then Xboct has been the best carry in Europe and probably the world and any time someone insults him I just assume they know nothing about Dota beyond what commentators tell them.
Ya I like last year's Loda, those ridiculous carry alchem games were memorable. Xboct delivered big time during TI3 as well (seriously he was arguably the best player in Navi during TI3).
And then this year Loda's performance has been lacking (not only him but rather the whole team, egm/akke duo doesn't seem to be working very well lately) but then I'd still say his plays are relatively solid most of the time compared to all other western carry players.. For navi, as much as I don't want to admit but kky is really stepping up to be a top tier support who can play quite a number of support heroes, while dendi seems to be in his slump and occasionally ppy/funnik gone full feeder/retard mode.

I, for one, didn't really notice the improvement until TI3 came around. Needless to say it was amazing to see him temper the aggression and make less questionable dives. Combined with his already pretty good farming ability, he suddenly was a top carry.
my question is is it possible to be a fan of a player or are you obligated to be a fan of the entire team because of what they are doing and providing for the player in question

Definetly possible to be a fan of a single player, just like I do. Or #demonarmy, who up until now didn't have a team to root for.
