I personally think fanatic doesn't deserve a direct invite

Stability together with pretty good overall results since TI3.
Why would they not deserve it?

because they haven't actually done anything notable aside from winning that captains draft tournament, which was yea a captains draft
I mean I'm not even sure I would give empire a direct invite
were talking about a direct invite to the biggest tournament of the year,I don't get why you guys think teams that didn't actually win a decent tournament through the year and just did ok deserve a invite
if the team is good they are going to emerge through the qualifier i dont see what the deal is

But that's wrong, Fnatic have done well ever since TI3, they haven't won any notable tournaments but they have landed a good deal of second places and overall done really well compared to the competition.

Stability + overall good results = of course they will be invited.

idk i disagree
I don't think roster stability and "ok results" should equal a direct invite to the biggest thing of the year
If anything the qualifier should be expanded and teams that are clearly a cut above should be given some sort of shorter path to qualifying as opposed to some bozo team but thats about it
fuck freebie invites i wanna see blood, sweat and tears

"ok results" ? The only teams with better results than Fnatic since TI3 are Alliance and Na'Vi. I don't think this qualifies as "ok results" and personally, I think this does warrant an invite.

both C9 and EG have better results as they actually won something

Fnatic won the CD tournament. Which doesn't mean anything in a CM meta but damned if I don't think CD is the superior format.

I guess you mean EU teams, but I consider C9 eu I guess since they have 3 players there, not sure how that's going to be handled

so if you win once and then dont do shit again you are better than someone who is constantly second? you cant honestly believe that.

Dont mind him, I dont think he paid any attention to Dota over the past year. Either that, or he believes whatever happened within the last couple months matters more than what happened all year long.

edit: Yes Im fnatic fanboy.

no I just believe fnatic would get consistently crushed by both C9 and EG as is now
Here is how I see it
8 direct invites should go out
EU:navi alliance C9
China:iG,VG,DK
US:EG
SEA:w/e

and ofc it matters more what happens right now,the team that's good now obviously has more potential to do well at TI than some team that's on a downward spiral or mediocre
and I'm not saying fnatic is bad I just think valve should cut down on direct invites that's all

and how do you explain that every qualified team so far did absouletly horrible in the main event while teams like fnatic or liquid who didnt really won much earlier placed in the top8?

what about empire?

qualifiers bitch no mercy
and how do you explain that every qualified team so far did absouletly horrible in the main event while teams like fnatic or liquid who didnt really won much earlier placed in the top8?

it's pretty simple
valve invited 13 teams and than opened qualifiers for 3 more. This is exactly what my point is the whole time. There is no 16 teams right now that can compete against each other on relative equal footing at TI,they need to crack down on the invites to 8 and have qualifiers for like 4 more(obviously rework the actual group stage as well). So what happens is you actually get good teams making it out of the qualifier that have a chance to do something at TI and not get stomped like the usual.
I mean if you are that confident that fnatic and empire have the quality to compete than they should have no problem making it through the qualifier.

I don't see why people assume that the format has to be the same every year, obviously it has to be adjusted to what the situation is within the scene because it's still pretty volatile.

I also find laughable that he would send as many invites to China as he would send to the Winner AND Runner up region.

So while everyone is arguing the number of invites you're actually arguing the number of total teams without making it clear in any argument. great!

so, I was discussing pro mid laners with my friend, and he mentioned mmy from dk used to be the greatest mid (even better at his peak than anyone today). Now I started dota 2 beta around ti2 and never played/watched dota 1. Is this true? Why'd he go to a support role if he was so beast at mid? Just curious

Does anyone else want the next original hero to be completely non-standard? I'm talking about the hero having things like unconventional levels when it comes to skills (Something like only being able to level basic skills on 1/4/7/10), extremely high base regeneration (or base degeneration!), having lower day vision then its night vision, having almost no vision at all, replacing attribute bonus with something different, like bonus range, movementspeed or regeneration.

I want a hero that completely breaks all the predefined 'rules' that dota has. Its been done with other heroes like Lone Druid, Invoker, Meepo and Arc Warden. But I want something that makes people say WTF so hard when its released.

Lots of people posting in here that they want more fair qualifiers, but valve wants more/same marketshare where ever they can get it. So, its really logical that they invite teams from korea and even i.e. revenge from south america, as those markets are upcomming markets and alot is to be gained there. It could well be that after ti4 we all speak peruvian

Ofcourse skill is really important and they will select accordingly but it seems to me that skill isnt the only parameter thats in the equation.

Sure but having a broader qualifier doesn't mean no teams are going to get stomped. I think there's enough of a skill gap between even the top 14 or whatever teams that the ones on the lower end of the spectrum are going to end up with pretty shitty looking results. I'm fine with that; let there be casualties.

? I made it perfectly clear what I mean in like 3 posts idk what you're looking at
if the number of total teams is going down obviously the number of invites should as well

TI 2011,2012,2013 were 16 teams and so will 2014. What do you mean total teams going down?

But those "bad" teams add to the whole event. Someone has to be last and some team will have a bad time and lose almost all matches. If that is a "good" team like mufc people will be disappointed but if it's a bad team that might pick uncoventional and give somebody a good fight we could enjoy it.
Think of bobsled olympics. Do you have any interest in the third german/us team that finishes 29th? Most likely not. Would you cheer for the Jamaicans that come 30th? Hell yeah! In our case one korean/peruvian team could get sympathies and raise awareness for their respective scenes which I find important. They might finish 0-16 but so would the last "standard" team that gets through the qualifiers.
