I'll have to disagree. Mechanics are incredibly important in DotA, just as much as in LoL if not even more so because things in DotA tend to pack a bigger punch in a shorter amount of time, especially early on. That doesn't sound like mechanics, mechanics are the ability to land skill shots, hit every combo in the proper order and landing every spell on a specific champion in a team fight while staying alive and still landing stuff and keeping your order proper. Higher cost, Higher damage, Higher CD nukes in Dota mean you are less reliant on your mechanics to fight someone and more on how you position that fight and when/where/how you take it. 1. Play Meepo 2. Play Invoker 3. Play Chen 4. Come back and talk about mechanics
Again that's micro not mechanics... Invoker is a decent example of a mechanically difficult hero though. I never said Dota didn't need mechanics, I said they play a bigger role in your ability to be good at LoL than they do in Dota.

I don't understand, how are micro and mechanics not heavily dependent on each other? This isn't Brood War, there is no macro so micro is the only mechanic...
Being able to spam out the spells you want very fast gives you a bigger edge in LoL is what I understand from your post. But I think there is a whole other layer with the items in dota that make pulling off 'stuff' fast much harder.
edit: apm in dota and dota-like games is a kind of weird territory, I doubt any pro player has less than 400 apm just because of all the move commands and to keep their reaction times quick

How good you micro is most definitely a part of your mechanics as a player. Lmfao.
Also having more spammy spells doesn't mean you need better mechanics to play the hero. Because the exact same argument could be made for the reverse, that you need good enough mechanics to use the one shot you have at using said spell and not fuck it up because of the averagely longer cooldown and higher mana cost.

I think the point is that dota is not a mechanically difficult game almost regardless of which hero you use. The skill comes more from knowing when and where to use an ability or item, not from actually executing it.
I had about 110 apm playing starcraft and I have perhaps 30 when playing dota and I don't feel like it's effecting me even if I play meepo (I suck at meepo, but not because I'm not fast enough).
Even small things like thread switching or dropping items is more rote memory and habit than it's macro. It's like macroing in broodwar only much easier to do mechanically yet it's still only good people who does it.
