It's certainly not an ideal solution, but it was better than the alternatives.

Not sure how accurate that is, but seems to be legit. It still shows how things people thought were outright impossible are not. I don't doubt some changes people think are impossible to port in fake patches would be possible with clever use of mechanics, but in the end it doesn't even matter. Most people don't even have the knowledge to say it's impossible, yet they use it as a justification for calling it fake.
Also, people love to talk about minor inconsistencies between both version, like incorrect range values, but in that thread they talk about how many heroes had incorrect night vision values in Warcraft 3. We just didn't notice Dota 1 bugs because we didn't pay attention to it, but it was far from a clean game.

A lot of things that are called can't be coded either won't because it requires an unreasonable number of hours to program (ie Yango's CK ult example) or would create memory leaks because the engine sucks.

The new slark ulti doesn't actually rely on stealth/invis at all in wc3 dota iirc

Really the Playdota.com Advanced mechanic forum has a lot of good information. Rest of it sucks but I've learned a lot off of it. They have a 6.79 thread that talks about all the "impossible" changes that they have worked on.

People talk a lot of shit about the Playdota forum, but yes, the mechanics forum is extremelly good and well moderated.

That CK ult is actually something easily codable by simply deprecating the the skill cooldown display of the skill, use a different indicator for the CD, and then creating either a dummy unit or trigger that refreshes the ult when the time is correct.

It is, but it is a waste of resources and time to do it so nobody would bother. Outside the box solutions are easy to come up with, but implementing them in a way that doesn't cause memory leaks and make the game unplayable is another monster entirely. The opportunity cost of making something is often why it isn't implemented instead of it being impossible, but it is labeled the latter anyway.
