only way to improve at 1v1 mid is actually 1v1ing ppl mid. sure you might lose some games but owell. start with easier heroes like qop or puck who have escapes because if you sf mid you will get ganked very often especially with the 4min night without wards it becomes very dangerous.
... last hitting under tower is very basic and rarely affected by rng. and there are guides for both low damage and highdamage+hatchet heroes. shouldnt take more than 5mins to understand the concept.

But whenever I pick SF my teammates scream at me and then force me to participate in a gank at mid where they feed first blood to the opposing Sniper.

your teammates are trying to make the game easier for you since your sf is super talented. its not their fault if you go full kitty mode and runaway.
and as i recall that heroic teammate of yours ended up way beyond godlike with the mid dive as his only death.

if a teammate feeds first blood then firebolt wouldn't be able to, crisis averted

Imho mid is more a battle of knowledge than anything else (should you be agressive against hero X or defensive? do you need to „win“ the lane or just stay in it and get what you can? Do you know where the enemy supports are and what they can do?).
Even if you die 2+ times to ganks as a mid, this should have freed at least one of your sidelane(s) to kinda compensate for that by getting (near) freefarm… But this too, is extremly dependant on the hero and even more on the enemies hero…
My worst game ever was as Zeus mid against what was basically a Trilane… But well… They shut me down and had to give up farm on two heroes in exchange… I don’t even remember if we lost that game in the end.

no u just pause after the 2nd tower hit gets the catapult and check it's life.
and pray u don't get rngg'd by tower doing 110-110-110
Its only like once every 3 mins, the other team wont mind :D

Thats most certainly not the right way to do it, unless "low damage" is techies lvl1 damage. If you are below ~60 damage hitting it once will give u the biggest chance of getting it and if you have higher damage than that you will have to hit it twice. This is obviosly advice for the melee creeps, range creeps are a different story and a lot more susceptible to rng.
Of course you will not get 100% out of these simple tricks because you have to take the rng tower damage into account but if you want to follow a simple guideline this will work.
EDIT: Oops, didnt read we were talking about catapult, sry

The thing that will make you miss it the most is when you hit it once, and then creeps aggro the catapult and hit it a few times.

Tower does 150-180 to siege creeps, siege creeps have 550 HP, so after 3 hits the Siege Creep is between 10 and 100 HP, average 55. Meaning that if your damage is higher than 55, you're more likely to get the lasthit by hitting it once, not twice (though around 55 damage it's basically 50/50).

This was my thought at the first sight but I couldn't remember if I saw it for T1 tower.
