IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

I mean the other thing is that historically DotA has rotated between a cycle of 3-1-1 vs 2-1-2 being the strongest mode of laning, with interims where both have been reasonable. Since 6.74, DotA 2 has more or less entered the rut where it's been very rare for 2-1-2 or variations to be stable laning arrangements and not gimmicks. Being perpetually stuck in 3-1-1 or 3-1-0 + jungle limits what drafts people can stably lane.

Honestly I didn't consider it a good thing that since 6.74, the game has been almost exclusively 3-1-1 (6.72/6.73 were interesting because by and large Chinese DotA 1 developed predominantly 2-1-2 lanes, while 3-1-1 very quickly became the norm in Western DotA 2). It doesn't surprise me that Icefrog chose to do something about this.

Lich is good in off-lane 2v2 like he always was, only Icefrog made him even better at it while also incentivizing off-lane 2v2.

I think the real problem I have with it is that it really screws over the people who've actually put in the work to learn the minutiae of the jungle and lane mechanics.

There's a really big window of MMR where people are learning these things, and someone who's put in the effort to know how to manipulate the jungle and static a lane gets a big advantage from having done so. I really liked that, and I feel like that kind of burden-of-knowledge is a big part of dota.

I think, if I'm honest, it feels like IceFrog is trying to make pro dota more like pub dota. That's nice, but by making dota as a whole more pubby he's pushing pub dota further and further towards its worst aspects.

We get more and stronger riki/BH/huskar pickers, more feeding-into-10min-godlike, more terrifying ganking mids, all of that junk. The obs change did the same thing, because it made it much easier for snowball mids to gank when they were already the scariest thing in a pub game. It makes me sad.

I don't get how you drew any of your conclusions from these patch notes lol.

They threatened to move his cheese and force him to learn new things. Then he inferred that change = pub dota.

thats not even counting the fact that neutral now wont spawn twice in a row the same type. That means you get more chance to get the camp you want(in this case dragon)

Dragons having flying movement is a bugfix, they worked that way in DotA 1. It's probably a bug that they pull that far though.

Yea, it wasn't even that hard to do, the timing window is pretty huge.

From reading it, it seems that it's like the enemy killed it.

But it splits a part of that xp to lich as well.

When I originally read the changes I was a bit miffed that my favorite character (Faceless Void) seemed to have relatively small buffs that were most relevant in the lategame, a place where he didn't have many problems to begin with. But now reflecting on all the changes that will alter how the game is played, the AoE increase to Chrono and the slow increase on Time Walk may turn out to be substantial buffs. Depending on the future item builds, it may become standard to max out Time Walk first for offensive purposes; also lvl 1 Chrono will be even stronger for tower pushes and the like. His lack of mana and bad strength/intelligence gain still sucks but the new buffs will further reward the aggressive Maelstrom and Armlet builds instead of the Battlefury build.

Also Maelstrom and Mjolnir got significant buffs that will make going Maelstrom all the more powerful.
