Wait the patch isnt about giving you a higher item drop chance once you get high level. Its about NOT giving you good drop if your level is low. Its just a way to prevent smurf account, not to reward more playing players.... Otherwise the item economy would be seriously flaw bc 1 dude on the top will just get arcania over and over.... My guess would be once they implement this, they gona lift the tutorial system requirement.

Wasn't there some console command that could circumvent the tutorial requirement thing though?

Supporting in pubs is really really hard, but I find it very rewarding when it actually comes together.
The problem is just that there is simply nothing you can do when your carrys dont carry. At the moment I am quite fond of playing Shadow Shamen (Tower gold into mek :-)), but there is a pattern that after the Tier 1 towers are pushed down I get killed a lot in teamfights as people are running away after getting hit once and I stand there like an idiot shackling while everyone else runs away.

The usual pub-sense. When your team wins, the carry player will ask, "commend plz" because they wrecked the enemy as if they did it on their own. When you lose, the carry player will say, "no wards gg or support feeder", while really there are wards but they got no map awareness and also you died for them because they are careless.

I don't even remember the last time I've seen a "commend plz" actually. The first few months after commends were implemented it was everywhere, but now, nothing.

Btw, when people try out for teams, look for new players etc, what's the hardest role to fill? The most important role to find a good player on? The most demanding role?

What are your guys experiences with this in amateur tmm games?

I am actually very curious about this.

I think support is quite rare. I know 4 guys that can play any farming position roughly as good as me, but only one of them is worth 2 dimes playing suppor on more than 1 hero.

It's fascinating to see players worse than myself telling me supports just ward and stack neutrals.

Well that's partly also due to the fact that it's really hard to practice support for all the reason listed by people above me. The environment in pub is just not support friendly. It's why even in low level pub, you tend to find pretty good mid players. That's the one position you are largely independent of others and, because it gets so much glory, is generally coveted by most players.

Edit: To be honest, I actually really want to learn to be a good support, but it's really hard to be able to trust my teammates to do their jobs because even my friends tend to be worse than me. The two friends I play a lot with who are better than me prefer mid (invoker) and random respectively. Because of that, I usually have to play carry, and it can be frustrating because, even with my limited understanding of support, I can still things they're doing wrong, like stacking and pulling and pulling and pulling - and then I have no regen left and its only 2 minutes into the game.

Sorry, this should probably go in the QQ thread...

I have a friend who "only plays support" and just pulls the camp over and over while I sit in lane getting harassed to death and unable to get last hits.

Whenever I play with him, I just pick the other support and make sure that my other friend who only plays carry is getting his space to farm. At least I am pretty sure that my friend who only plays carry is actually making good use of the space I am creating for him.

Thankfully the friend who plays support that I mentioned earlier responds to pings when I tell him we should try to smoke and go mid or when I think the offlaner is playing too aggressively and is actually killable.

Supporting in solo MM is a whole different monster really and is an experience I rarely enjoy. Unless I'm Rubick and there's lots of good spells to steal.

i feel as if supports dont pull enough in MM games. often you have a lane that is just lost from the get go and the carry cant last hit regardless if there is a support or not. thats true for most meele hard carries when they are up against a dual lane (guess one of the reasons why hardcarries suck so much in terms of winrate in pubs). i see the classical "i stand behind my carry and cast a spell once in a while"- support way to often in games where you get harrassed to death every time you go for a lasthit and if the support tries to fight them he just dies.
i think there are only two instances where supports can fuck things up with pulls:
- push the lane through single pulls or unsuccessful pull throughs
- pull when your lane is actually stronger than the opponents lane.

in all other cases the carry cant farm anyway except under the tower.

I had to stop playing hard supports. Its just a depressing experience when you're sitting there watching your carry have a completely empty lane thanks to you forcing their offlane all the way back and he's STILL unable to get a last hit and is just autoattacking. :-\

I like supporting but my winrate is more or less consistently better on carries or supports with semi-carry potential.

Hard support is not the most rewarding role, but in my opinion its not even supposed to be played in pubs. Pubs are so fucking tryhard nowadays, it's annoying. You can't just pick Chen, go mid and play Dota, unless you want to play 4v5 coz someone will report you and leave to train for TI5 qualifiers.
Pro scene influence over pubs is too strong, unfortunately.
My advice - just pick CM and break faces, rather than support. You will be surprised how good "supports" are at killing shit when they are not wasting their time "babbysitting" AM to farm for 20 minutes so he could farm for another 20 minutes, but faster.

You get a Gunslinger set for Sniper if you work through all of the tutorial missions. In the final part of the tutorial, you have to play 10 games with a limited hero pool. If you already had an account before the tutorial system was introduced, you get to skip all that.

Ah, okay. I guess I must have set up my account beforehand, although I only started playing earlier this year.

I play pseudo hard support in pubs at a low level. It's okay. I just buy wards when I have money and it's off cooldown, and good positioning and disables can win teamfights. Although when we lose everyone blames me for being so squishy. I just avoid feeding and get farm when I can.

I play too much. Two new brazilian students in my school, and upon hearing them, I became instinctively angry and my friends were wondering if I was racist. My Life is Dota.

So many abandons lately. I really do hope people get punished for it. Atleast most of the abandons i've seen have been before the first creep wave.
