Only problem is, games can quickly snowball into stomps if say you were in one of these lopsided games, had the highest MMR and picked something like hard support while your equivalent on the other team goes mid or carry etc. It sucks but I don't see another way around this unless you just forbid people of vastly different skill levels from forming a party. Anybody know how LoL or HoN tried to address this problem? Yep that's correct. HoN didn't really try to address the problem.. they match the same'ish as dota. However, the MMR is public, so cries of "im blue i go mid, shut up brown go support" were the solution. (MMR was ordered by colour with, e.g. radiant blue being highest on radiant) e: Perhaps it might be viable for valve to show if any players significantly stand out from your team's average MMR. As long as the threshold is high enough to actually make a difference, skill-wise. Of course the social consequences of this have to be considered as well.. it's really tough.

Yesterday, I (who had ~45 games at that time) stacked with a friend of mine that was new to the game. Went ok actually, I sucked in that game but that's another disscusion Also: Tommorow is the day. The "facing superior opponents" part is pretty much guaranteed when you're stacking with a wide skill spread. If you are the worse player in a dual stack with a player vastly better than you, then if you play a solo it's virtually guaranteed that the player you go against will be a lot better than you. The only time this wouldn't be the case is if the stack similar to yours on the other team has their worst player playing mid as well. Even if we assumed that skill has no relevance to which role you get to play. that would mean you'd get stomped 4 times out of 5. I don't think there's really a good solution to this, TBH. If you get mismatched stacks, the experience is going to suck for someone. The problem is that if you use some internal mechanism to discourage mismatched stacks (disallow or punish stacks that are too far apart on MMR), then you are encouraging the better player to smurf if he wants to play with those worse friends, and smurfing also ruins someones gameplay experience (just not necessarily the same people that as the mismatched stack does).

and when it comes to stacking just dont 4 stack and its all good, 4 stacking is just asking for it, i 4 stacked a bunch of games and 90% of the time you get a potato you have to carry.

When you relegate weaker players to not as important roles it makes it much easier and a much more even game. It's when the weaker player calls for a solo role as you said that it gets really out of hand.
