She's a voice actress for several characters in dota and glados in portal. Guess it's referencing that.

hiho guys,
i just read the startpost, but there is 1 statspage missing in my opinion.
its http://pubstats.me http://pubstats.me/6094485/ (my profile as a simple example)
for me, as a pure support player statistics like: Advanced Statistics - Gametime Performance are very meaningfull, as the graph isnt tipping down like hell. just by the numbers it seems im doing a pretty good job with no money in long term games

wow. that's nice o.o
how come i cant view my profile even though i have shared match history on?
|
i takes a while, give it a few hours or a day

Cool site thank you.

My experience in DOTA 2 so far has been part great (I really like the game) and part incredibly awful. I've played about 15 MM games, and I'd say 70% of them have had someone DC/leave. Does that get better at some point? I've never seen anything like this (and I've played LoL for years, so I know terrible communities). Yes, the early games of DotA 2 are fucking awful and filled with leavers. Once you play a few more games it actually does get better, at least in terms of leavers. It gets a LOT better once you get around 50 games. its mostly due to the amount of new people/people that dont care about leaving/smurfs
I'd also note that if its people across from SC2 its likely they're doing what they think is "polite".
I remember when I first started DOTA2 I'd quit games when we were very far behind because that's what I'd been trained to do in SC2. If you're good mannered there you don't drag the game on, you leave when its lost. So I racked up a ton of abandons until I figured out that I was supposed to stay in them.

I've never abandoned a game, even those that were safe to leave. I had a game that my team won 60-15 or something like that in kills despite being one man less for the entire game

Well, there's a difference between being 4v5 from the very start (especially if you've got a good suicide offlaner in your draft) and losing a guy halfway through the game, while he's been getting farm and exp. Seeing your AM leave 30 minutes into a game is a tough one.
At the same time, i think they're talking about leaving when you're on the losing side of that 60-15... Pretty much at the point in which a LoL player would use the surrender option. A lot of players would leave at that point since the match is pretty much lost (20-30k exp/gold behind or something like that, raxes down etc.), and they really see no way of coming back. One could argue for allowing players to leave at that point, but the fact is that DotA hasn't got an option built in for that. Also, it's more entertaining for the winning side to actually finish the game 5v5, rather than playing PvE for the last minutes. Since you should be on that winning side half of the time, making everyone stick in there will increase the enjoyability for you as well.
Final note: i think that in this, DotA is different from SC, not just in actual mechanics but also in gameplay. Once you know you've pretty much won in SC, finishing the game can be a drag (killing off all the lose refineries left on the map etc.). So leaving is the polite thing to do. Finishing a game in DotA on the other hand is still fun, with chenanigans like fountaindiving coming into play. So staying until the end is the polite thing to do.

I've seen far enough crazy stuff in both Dota2, FGC and CS to know that leaving before it's really over is a really bad idea.

Because there is no surrender option, I feel like the "polite" thing to do in a game that is already over, is to finish the stupid game. Sure it's fun the for the winning team to really rub it in by fountain diving for the last 10 minutes of the game. But I'd rather be 10 minutes into the next game, but instead the winning team will intentionally not kill a rax just so they can humiliate you. To me, this is the same thing (in terms of rudeness) of losing to a 6 pool as terran, and lifting up your CC and flying to the corner. Now you have to spend time mindless teching up to air units to kill my CC. At least in SC2, you still get the win. In DOTA2, I still get the loss, I just have to wait another 10 minutes while you rack up your epeen points.

just played such a lulsy game, a perfect example of how naga song can backfire
almost on the verge of losing (exposed ancient), and i go in to try and stall the game with rubick and fade bolts
enemy naga suddenly sleeps and tide ravages right after. naga going "oh fuck" cancels the sleep, lets me steal it and i ravage the entire team, who get wiped
5 mins later, opponent team loses

How can I go from 6 straight page 1 game (wins) vs kaipi and LIFE stacks while playing with the best random teams I have ever, ever had (super competent thinkers and strategists) to suddenly getting a game with 4 slavs/russians/we that instalock sniper-slark-tinker-lion (upon which Lion announces he wants mid and wants to carry, keep in mind he wrote this in cyrrilic first.) I am pretty sure that if SC2 used Valve MMR then plat players would face GMs and silvers on the same day ._.
