Bringing foreign teams bolsters the viewership of an individual tournament in the short term, but because you're not getting new viewership and just trying to leech the viewership off those teams' home countries, you're not guaranteeing long term sustainability. In particular, you're not garnering NEW viewership because most of the people interested in watching the best teams were already watching the game--and local teams tend to be easier for new viewers to associate with.
isnt the lcs thing only valid because lol is pretty big in the us, at least compared to dota? u realise there's only 1% more players in the us for dota compared to ukraine alone?i dont think ure getting any viewers only making it a NA or mostly NA tournament, and from then on they would sooner or later realise they have to bring the big dogs

If I remember correctly, the American CS league (CAL?) did a good job to help American teams catching back with Europeans powerhouses. Anyway an MLG event can only promote the creation of new teams, thus helping new players to appear on the proscene (except for supports, they need a ranking system :p)

A small tournament for a small investment, which is fine.
Realistically if you are only concerned with trying to tap into existing viewer base, there is no future for DotA 2 ESPECIALLY in the States. Everything right now should be about growth potential and fostering local competition has more potential for growth than bringing Alliance and Na'Vi to every tournament.

I don't want to just see Alliance and Na'vi win every tournament either, thats fucking boring
At least bring a more interesting team like Fnatic or something if you wanna bring someone from overseas

If you have an area with no events and another area with tons of events, the area with the most events has the best teams. If Alliance comes over to MLG, they win, or Na'Vi does. Some NA teams will try to do well, but in the end they won't cut it, get smashed and go home. Its not worth their time.
Again, we have seen this before. If you smoother the local scene with the highest level teams, the local scene dies. Then you have nothing and you have to keep bring over the highest level teams.
Its short term vs Long term. Do you want lots of viewers in October or do you want lots of viewers next October.

Does Quelling Blade boost damage against Roshan? Would be good to have with Ursa when Roshing asap right?

Quelling blade doesn't work with ursa's damage from fury swipes to begin with.

I'm not using the QQ thread as this is (I hope) a legitimate question. My experience in DOTA 2 so far has been part great (I really like the game) and part incredibly awful. I've played about 15 MM games, and I'd say 70% of them have had someone DC/leave. Does that get better at some point? I've never seen anything like this (and I've played LoL for years, so I know terrible communities).

Your just starting out, dont worry it gets better. Just keep playing and the number of leavers will drop. Once you reach high/very high, there's practically no leavers anymore.
Provided you improved to reach that stage of course  . I can't even remember the last game I met a leaver

Excellent, appreciate the feedback. I have my 9-1-22 Lich games and love it (as just happened), then have someone DC 3 minutes in and it kills the fun. Hopefully I'll be moving up before too long, thanks all.

It's not just because you're a beginner but because you're in a pool with people with very few games and no one really cares about leaver status when they rarely play the game.

i didn't mean to imply the player being a beginner or not but just the amount of total games played. on a smurf it took me around 50 games of leaver queues.

Yes, the early games of DotA 2 are fucking awful and filled with leavers. Once you play a few more games it actually does get better, at least in terms of leavers. It gets a LOT better once you get around 50 games.
