American teams might get more viewers but it also costs a lot less to convince them to come.

But even if not, I don't think Alliance/Na'Vi/Fnatic would have any problems getting there.

Considering of course that it is after TI and viewership is expected to go up slightly from new players. It's Florida so the time-zone won't be completely terrible. You scathe my hyperbole and then say that I claimed it would be an outright failure if they did it? I never said anything like that. It's pretty clear what I meant but I clarified anyway. Your clarification came after the post I quoted, and it's obvious your original statement wasn't clear, else you wouldn't have so many people arguing about it. Either way, I'm not sure why you think this small invitational should have the same weight as established tournaments in the scene, MLG is testing the waters to see what they will do in the future. If they do organize a big tournament/circuit, it won't be the first one. There are plenty of smaller EU events this could be compared to.

That story line is done for a while and they might pull in the numbers for one event, but they will crush every other team there. MLG already learned the hard way that it is a good way to kill off all the local teams and players.

It would be fun, but after the international, those teams don't need to play again. If MLG has learned anything from SC2, they will be reluctant to pull in the big names to smash the local teams and players. It just leaves you with a dead local scene and forces you to keep pulling in teams from over seas, which costs money. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't though. Specifically Alliance and Na'Vi. I dont know if u realised this but twitch' dota2 numbers grow exponentially specially during a navi game

Those LANs are entirely forgettable. so to me (and many others) starladder holds no prestiege Either way I disagree, StarLadder is always an amazing event. I'd say consistently so more than DH. It's always an interesting fight to see who gets to the Lan final. in the online tournament. To me StarLadder is a perfect part in the Dota scene. It isn't the biggest most amazing thing. But it is so consistent and frequent it to me holds a lot of prestige.

NA teams can certainly hold their own against EU teams, I don't see it hurting the growth of NA Dota if you keep on inviting EU teams. I think it's more important that it's a successful tournament financially, so they can get more teams, and then more teams means more American amateur teams will join.

I have seen this before. I know how the story ends.

If you're bringing Koreans every time, then you have to KEEP bringing them ever after because the local competition fails to develop.

The last one who did that was the ADL and it got very small numbers compared to every other tournamnet

Koreans is not the same though, I think people while they will want to cheer for Americans but won't mind cheering for Europeans. Bluntly said, as long as they are white its fine. While Americans would be preferable I don't think they'd mind Europeans.

The last one who did that was the ADL and it got very small numbers compared to every other tournamnet Because the cost of bringing foreign teams over is high. You have to have much higher incentive for them to come. If the tournament is not sustainable on local viewership and MLG has to keep paying to bring foreign teams, then MLG is going to start asking the question "Why are we running these if we can't get viewers unless we spend this money to bring foreign teams?" This is a lesson that incidentally Riot learned very well at the inception of LCS. If you isolate events to local competition, then you get viewers invested in the storylines and personalities of their local teams, which means that in the long run, you retain a lot of viewers who wouldn't care if foreign teams were in all their local events. Every team in NA LCS is trash compared to the Korean teams in OGN but they only have to show this once a year, so NA LCS still pulls fantastic stream numbers because even those trash teams have lots of fans from building up player personalities and storylines over 2 seasons of LCS. Bringing foreign teams bolsters the viewership of an individual tournament in the short term, but because you're not getting new viewership and just trying to leech the viewership off those teams' home countries, you're not guaranteeing long term sustainability. In particular, you're not garnering NEW viewership because most of the people interested in watching the best teams were already watching the game--and local teams tend to be easier for new viewers to associate with.
