Ofc you'll probably lose in the first round. Isnt there also some irc channel for clan wars?

Pretty much anything above basic dota knowledge, but why would you? There's way too much to learn from pubs before you can start learning competitive dota.

Since there are no real indicators of skill readily available, here goes: You should know all the basics(what a hero does in general, have seen each item at least used in a game). Uneven lanes(1v2, 1v3, 2v3) shouldn't be new to you. You should have run a successfull trilane at least once(otherwise you would need a jungler in almost every game) It helps to know trends of the metagame. That's all you need to start being competitive really. If you play teammatchmaking with your irl friends, expect to be stomped though. I have no idea what you're intending to do or what level of competition you mean by competitive. So take with a grain of salt.

The biggest issue right now for me with this game is, that there are like 90 heroes in total and I cannot possibly even remotely memorize all of them let alone their itemizations. For now I have just tried to play with common sense and get their respective stat items and get mana or dmg items depending of my need at the time. Another issue is, that I find it very hard to find money to get boots because all of my income goes to replenish my mana and health potions or food eating items, if I dont get those my hero is useless because of no mana or no hp. I have noticed that there are also some heroes are not really good or are extremely hard to put in actual use like Zeus, I tried him but this hero just seems to be dead weight. I may not know how to play him, but compared to juggernaut or natures prophet there is world of difference in their impactfullness. Zeus ultimate seems almoust overpowered because it can kill low hp enemies everywhere so i guess this hero must have been balanced around that skill.

I have totally no idea what people mean when they talk about "laning" and other terms like that. My favorite heroes currently are juggernaut and natures prophet, there were some others too but cant remember. Last night I tried night stalker because I heard it is good at getting kills, but I dont think quiet so, because its fairly easy to disengage from night stalker if you have any kind of retreating skills despite of night stalkers Void. Juggernaut seems pretty straightforward with his hard hitting abilities, so its easy to play. Nature prophet is nice if you get levels going and those trees just are fun to push with and you can help alot your team with getting opponents in that box. The "ultimate" skill for natures prophet is not that good because of low damage but I guess its not the point of the nature prophet. I would reserve any judgement of individual heroes until you have played the game a lot more. Nightstalker is amazing at chasing heroes down and is very hard to escape from, and while Zeus's ult is pretty scary, the hero is more focused around the insane burst damage that he outputs. With regard's to NP's ult, keep in mind that it does more damage after each bounce, so you don't want to aim it at the hero you want to damage; rather you want to click on the other side of the minimap so that by the time it reaches your fight and the hero you're trying to kill it is doing maximum damage.

Uh if you're dominating that means you should NOT go vanguard, vanguard is an item you buy when you desperately need a defensive item, if you're dominating you have all the space in the world to grab your drums, phase boots and mek which are way better on viper anyway. On August 15 2013 18:05 Daozzt wrote: I do think vanguard is better than mek on Viper though unless no one else on your team is a mek carrier/able to farm one. Viper has like 200 mana and goes oom after an ult and 3 orbs. I don't think its reliable on him at all. It's not at all worth it, vanguard is only an item you grab when behind. If you want HP a raw vit booster provides the same HP while drums boosts your mana. Mek on viper is a very very good item for surviveability. You don't grab vanguard if you're dominating. Also viper has 200 mana at level 1, with wand and drums you have far far more than 200 at level 10 which was a level you were talking about.
