They should be able to do something. There has to be some kind of solution for this. Unless valve has magic, they can't really do a lot about the issue. There is no way to know what language people speak or force them to a different server because of their region. I mean, they could just say "No NA server for you", but that wouldn't stop you from playing with people in NA that don't speak english. Only let people pick one. "can't really do a lot about the issue" is just silly. There are a thousand things they could do. They all have drawbacks. But are the drawbacks that bad? I don't believe so. They can limit server access, but that is about it. The rest gets into their weird racist territory where they start filtering by what language people speak. Guild wars did language filtering an it pretty much killed the game for me..

The only solution I can think of is moving the Russian servers from Sweden to somewhere actually in Russia so Russian players actually get better ping to Russia than EU, rather than them being pretty much the same.
I've actually had direct discussion with Eric Tams, a valve dev who works on matchmaking and his philosophy is faster queue times for less balanced games is preferred over longer queue for a more balance game. I think this is the biggest fundamental problem in the matchmaker. I'd gladly wait another 1-2m between games to have a better chance at a balanced game.
I should dig out our old logs from the dev boards, I sent him over 50 replay ids and he went through them all with various feedback. He actually implemented a change based on the replays I sent him! What he did, I'll never know just that he made an 'adjustment'.

Simply letting things go off is a poor showing from valve imo, for the reasons I outlined. They should recognize it's an issue, at least.

Thing is with your kind is that even if they could magically remove the russians there will be new "russians" you will complain about.

I never said I wanted russians to be magically removed. I just want the matchmaking to function at least decently, so that when I choose english language I can expect to get english speakers in the match. I think that's being very, very reasonable. Sure, no matchmaking is perfect, but this particular issue comes up all the time, meaning there's something wrong with the system and in how users use it.
I have every confidence in Valve's ability to do something about it, they have rarely failed to deliver.

as numy said, you most likely dont recognize your mistakes and blame your team. And talking about it here won't change anything, go to the dev forums.

What he did, I'll never know just that he made an 'adjustment'. Actually DotA2 has one of the longest queue time among all the competitive games out there. Given such a dominating player pool size, what we have right now is already pushed to the limit. A lot of reviews from gaming news site on dota2 said that the search time is quite a turn off even though they didnt go too much into detail.
And personally, i agree with the idea of having faster queue over accuracy. It will carter the game toward casual gamers more plus given the avg game length is roughly 35-45 mins, saving search time is a huge plus. A broken game is, for most people, better than having no game to play. With that said, they need to come up with systems that assist competitive gamers more. An easy step would be just implementing IH league system that is similar to ixDL but im sure they have better goals than all that.

Honestly at this stage it doesnt matter it was russian/troll or whatever, it was purely because more players joined in, mm failed to adjust the balance and then making games mostly one sided.
The bigger problems with dota2 MM games: 1)Cute players who randomed/picked X hero that he never play or couldn't play at high level -> proceed to derp. best example: your typical noob mid, 'ya sure this is my first time playing this hero lets go mid and i expect to own'. 2)Selfish player who picked/randomed supprortive heroes but not buying cour/ward and go farm/derp around when team needed them/takingfighting resources with the core heroes. best example: people who made me to produce that 'how to play support' guide. 3)Asshole players who purposely ruin the games by playing X hero but playing very badly/do a new meta/troll build regardless what happened to the game. best example: first pick hardcarry, couldnt even last hit, wasting all the freefarming that the team bought him or go for totally retarded items, wasting all the effort of the team. support NA with 30mins dagon etc.
None of the above matters if we are still playing bnet/garena because noobs are everywhere anyway, but dota2 mm artificially making sure there is no noobs in your game and hence if the better player got to play a hero who couldnt make any impact to the game, it would be autolose.
I have been consistently telling the team at the start that: 'team give me freefarm 8mins and i will win the game for you' when i play safelane carry, and it mostly turned out exactly like what i said. While i make sure i achieve that when i am not carrying, and i have seen enough disheartening shit where i made 15mins freefarm time for the carry and he went totally retarded items.
And guess who is usually ruining the game, your randomed ES who started with a QB and rush to safelane, and if you clicked on his profile you will see that he has more than 1k wins. Dota2 MM, best.
Ohboy another rant on the MM >_< hopefully when i come back next time mm would be improved #0expectation.

dota2 noob here, but can someone clarify the matchmaking system while i wait to install the game? I looked around liquipedia and did a quick search but can't get very much information about the MM system, a ladder, or ranking system that players can somehow see how good they are.

There isn't anyone good at this game. We're all bad, and so Valve to not hurt players sensibilities don't show exactly how bad you are.

The only way to tell if you're decent is to look at the first 5-10 pages of live games and see if you're there consistently. There is currently no ladder or visible MM score.

Vacuum could be better but I like the others. Dragon knight's ult apparently turns him into jakiro.

I thought surge was vacuum because it looks like it's sucking things in. Others are good. DK's look badass.
