Part of what drove me to starcraft is being able to play 1v1 and not have to deal with terrible team games, but dota kinda has my interest. Are you gonna drive yourself crazy if you care about winning?

Doesn't mean it's not a fantastic game and you should play it, but if you only want to win you'll deal with the issue of being really really bad when you start, and the other issue of the people you are playing with and against being really really bad.

Are you gonna drive yourself crazy if you care about winning? i find the trick is to try to improve your own individual plays if you want to get better and not worry too much about losing, if you want to win get 4 other like minded people and do coordinated 5 stack. i used to hate playing with terrible people but i find that if i just at least play well, ie dont feed, make plays, make good decisions and pull out gosu plays, even if i lose thanks to terrible teammates, i least i improved on an individual level. sooner or later you're gonna move up thanks to your own smart plays and you'll deal with crappy teammates less frequently.

Are you gonna drive yourself crazy if you care about winning? For me DotA2 is all about learning. Winning is meaningless if you don't learn from it. I like the idea of never being able to reach a personal skill ceiling and learning from almost all the games I play. Back when I played Starcraft2 I kept getting frustrated after hitting the point where my multitasking and overall mechanics were not sufficient to support my strategic understanding of the game. There is nothing worse then loosing a game while realizing how to possibly prevent a loss, yet still not being able to execute upon those thoughts. Luckily DotA2 has tons of heroes and items that can be combined to seemingly endless combinations and strategies. Even after 900 hours there are still some heroes left that I never even played once. Here are some scenarios that you will encounter along the way: Arguably the worst scenario is if you totally stomp the enemy team because you probably wont be able to learn much from that. Its also not fun if you ask me. Getting stomped can definitely be a decent way of improving if you take your time to re watch the game. Even if you got outpicked there is almost always stuff that you could have done better in any of your games. Winning close games sometimes gives you that insanely exciting feeling that at least for me is unique to DotA2 and is one of the reasons I keep falling in love with this game over and over again. It may only happen every 15-30 games or less but its definitely worth it. Finally and most importantly, loosing close games, is usually the best opportunity for you to improve. It is very likely that there are one or more key mistakes, that you can pinpoint, which were probably an important part that helped shape the outcome of the match. Once again watching replays of selected matches can be extremely helpful in detecting mistakes. You'll be surprised by how many small things you will notice that you didn't recognize during the game. It is also recommended, to focus on your own mistakes and refrain from blaming your teammates as it is usually a terrible habit that can hurt your way of trying to improve and certainly wont help your image. It doesn't matter if your teammates suck! Telling them about it wont help them in any way. Instead try and give them some tips on how they could improve their play. If they are still offended by that, there is probably nothing more you can do about it. So just keep in mind that you will pretty much always take something away from a game, if you have the right attitude about it. This, combined with the never ending learning curve, is a big part of the reason I like DotA2 so much.Winning is nice but there are certainly many other ways to increase your enjoyment. After putting all the pieces together you might just receive a "Win" as a well earned reward. Since is pretty much guaranteed, that your win rate will be gravitating closer towards 50% the more games you play, getting upset about any loss in general is probably a waste of energy. I hope this helps. <3

I haven't learned anything from a close loss years. close losses when you are playing your hardest aren't learning experiences at all.
