Really? I don't think it'll be viable in Dota at all (and i too, liked it in Reague of Regends. Don't miss it though).
Edit: Viable as in, decent to use. I'm sure someone somewhere will use it, I just don't think it'll give anyone that split second advantage it does in league

now that I think about it, I've been using ctrl+a-move for global unit control (makes all your units/illusions/whatever attack the same target/area), wonder what they'll change it to.

Can someone explain to me what this smart casting in dota actually means? I'm fairly sure its not the same as smart casting in sc2 is considering we're only controlling one unit?

As long as they also give it a different sound I like to be able to both ping "hey look" and have a second ping for "hey watch out". When it comes to pubs I like to be able to differentiate between "gogogo" and "back out" without having to type it out. e.g. someone comes to gank your lane but you know about a ward the guy doesn't know about or that your opponent is playing super careful. Typing "go b won't work" or *ping* "ward" is a bigger hassle than a "go back"-ping.

When you hit an hotkey, the spell immediately proccs at the location where the cursor was hovering. There is no "aiming phase"anymore. You aim, press the key, spell goes off.

Instead of having to click after pressing a hotkey the action gets performed right where you mouse cursor is at that point in time.
*hotkey* -> *move mouse over target* -> *leftclick* turns into *move mouse over target* -> *hotkey*

Aaah..ok.. I don't like that I like having bigger skill ceiling, and preparing spells ahead of time, or clicking them faster, is part of that skill imo. Lowering APM for a game that already has very low apm requirements due to the nature of it (you're only controlling one hero after all (sometimes more in special cases))

think you quoted wrong person? i agree with you on giving seperate sounds to the 'caution' and 'attention' ping though

Some people swore on it, personally I really disliked it.
In the end it gives people a bigger choice when it comes to customizing controls which I consider a good thing.

So after 650 games of dota I just noticed that the radiant towers hover over the ground lol

took me a while to realize they have faces

Please tell me you can turn that off.

Spell animation canceling would seem a bit like a bitch with it on, I will probably not use it because I am used to the normal way though.

Yep. I don't really care what Valve implements, as long as its fair, doesn't ruin the game and i can keep the current option(s).

Should be noted though that while there was discussion before, thats uncommon now. Good luck finding even a single pro who isn't using smartcasting in LoL, it's just far superior on almost every hero, there's quite few abilities where smartcasting isn't prefered.

Spell animations make smartcasting much much much less appealing then in LoL. In dota you often have a cast point that you could spam the hotkey+click 5 times or more in the timeframe of, whereas in LoL a lot of shit is more or less instant, which makes it way more appealing in that game imo.
I can think of many more spells that I would not want to have smartcasting on for then ones I would like it for in Dota. As someone said earlier it might be nice for blink and heroes without cast animations but besides that I dont see much appeal.

Can't say I would or wouldn't use smartcasting in dota until I actually get to fiddle around with it, but I absolutely loved it in LoL (even though I began playing without it).
