You can attack with GS if you have orbs and you manually cast them, so you are virtually immune to magic with berserkers blood and immune to physical hits. You can shift queue your attacks I believe, so you don't need to orb walk.

Since they may actually be used, they seem like they could be very deadly in lane - since you don't get damage from passive anymore, is it worth it to max them so you can try to zone out the enemy rather than try to fight for last hits with average last hitting power? Is it still worth getting lifesteal early on? Or is ghost/halberd/damage higher priority now? I need to learn to type faster and/or say less.

Until now, ofc, where they don't face competition while ghost sceptred, and they have been buffed.

Hence it was hard to justify losing +6 stats and delaying blood/heal for the sake of some laning power. People don't realize inner vitality is a horrible horrible spell until you have a decent strength base. Inner vitality: 2/4/6/8 base regen +5% from main attribute each level 15% from main attribute each level if under 40% 16 seconds. So each strength provides 19 hp. Each level of inner vitality will give .05 x 16 = .8 hp per strength. At level 6, huskar has a whopping 33 strength, at level 9 40. So at level 9, each point of inner vitality will provide .8 x 40 = 32 hp of regen from stats, and 2 x 16 = 32 hp regen from stats. Wow, a 64 hp heal for each level. Now if you're low hp, it goes up to 32 x 3 + 32 = 128 per level, which is ok, but you have to stay under 40% for the full 96 extra heal, and it (was) dangerous to be that low. At level 1, your have 21 base strength, so 25 x .8 = 20 hp heal from stats and 2 x 16 = 32 from base. But compare that to tranquil boots: 250 hp heal. That's better than level 4 heal uninjured, about the same as level 2 heal if you're below 40%. +3 hp per second, so in the 20 second heal, that's another 60 hp. You can't cast it as often, but your inner vit costs more than half your mana. Compare that to a tango: your level 1 heal is equal to 1/2 a tango. Wouldn't you skip a 1/2 mana pool level 1 skill if you could skip it with a 15 gold item per use? Compare that to warlock/omniknight heal: 360/405 hp at level 4 compared to 256 from unbooster inner vitality. Skilling inner vitality early means you choosing a vastly inferior skill at early game compared to other heroes over burning spears, and it also happens to be covered by cheap items?
