I dont know anything about mlgs business model or how they make money. But I would have imagined that if they were picking between two games, one with a high built in audience, and another with a publisher or studio or w/e giving them some upfront money, they would go with the former. Well it depends on how much money you're getting. How much would MLG really earn from running Dota tournaments? Especially considering the state of Dota in NA. Very little. They might be able to put together an event that pulls in enough numbers or sells enough tickets to make it 'worth the time', but it's not going to be highly profitable. If you're taking developer money you're not taking a risk at all, and you're most likely getting a much higher return.

And wasnt everyone saying that mlg was unable to pick up another dotalike for contractual reasons? Picking up this batman dota is easy and guaranteed money, picking up Dota 2 is a big risk. I guess they evaluated their options and made their choice. That's the sad part about esports nowadays... Soon enough, I don't think there will be any big events that are not paid by the publisher. With Blizzard running them successfully with SC2 (and mainly Riot with LoL, ofc), more companies will try to do the same. Now people will tell me that it's good for the scene, more money is always good. Many people are asking for Valve to do a yearlong season like LCS or WCS. But I don't think it's a good idea. Do you think there would be like five independent studios (BTS, jD, GD, ESL, OMGTV) producing top tier Dota content trying to out do each other? No, of course not, everything would be run by Valve. And even if they went the way of Blizzard and just give each of the studios a piece of the pie, that would hinder the development of the studios as well.

Bruno Lopes Tomaz @_BrunoTomaz 14h @Totalbiscuit @MLGSundance the community is just tired of people only teasing stuff. Look at NASL, teases no stop but never say yes or no. Sundance DiGiovanni @MLGSundance 14h @_BrunoTomaz @Totalbiscuit we'll run Dota2. They'll run WoT. Done. Next?

Dreamhack wanted Dota 2 as part of their Open circuit last year but the sponsors weren't interested because a large portion of the western dota viewership is from Eastern Europe which doesn't appeal very much to them. For MLG, the NA viewership is even smaller. But now with all the quality content from BTS, GD, jD etc the english western viewership is definitely rising. Also with Alliance being the hot team at the moment, that will have positive results for western viewership aswell.

Dota in NA is actually rising way way way faster then I would have ever expected. When I was 10 I was the only one in my school who played RTS' like starcraft, pretty much the same all the way through elementary and high school. Now im in college and suddenly EVERYONE my age is playing rts' like dota, league, and sc2. Friends iv had for years who never played rts' are suddenly huge esports buffs. the rise of competitive games in the last few years in America has been beyond anything I would have expected.

I'm not saying that it's 'low' compared to what I'd expect from America, it's growing, but it's low compared to SC2 in regards to the ratio of NA/EU. First of all, probably not the bruno you're thinking of. And secondly, got schooled by someone who's been making promises for a year?@teapoted Dota in NA is actually rising way way way faster then I would have ever expected. MLG Dota is nothing until we see it. They might be planning to do an online league for all we know. In which case who gives a fuck?

I really doubt a lot of elementary and even high school people play stuff like rts.More like COD and shit

Americans are less adamant about american teams, and more want to watch good teams.
