I'm not saying SeleCT can't be a great dota professional, far from it. I just don't like the mechanics argument.

Honestly, mechanics in dota2 aren't that high and are high levels are easily attainable (for most heroes). The factors that make you good on a professional level have less to do with mechanics and more to do with knowledge and teamwork. Someone who is used to competing in 1v1 games but has high mechanics might not necessarily be a 'shoe in' for an amazing player in a game entirely reliant on teamplay. I'm not saying SeleCT can't be a great dota professional, far from it. I just don't like the mechanics argument. Well, you're absolutely right, but I wasn't trying to argue his mechanics would make him good enough to go pro or anything, even though it may have sounded like that. I was just giving one example of some of his natural talents that set him apart from the average page 1-5 player, and which makes him improve at a faster rate than most. He will need decision making, and teamwork to be pro level, however, I feel like he has those skills, just needs to adapt them to DotA. On another note, mechanics do matter quite a bit, and someone with his skill will definitely be more consistent with things like last hitting, skill shotting, etc. Although it isn't the most important factor, but to say it doesn't mean much of anything isn't correct imo.

I feel most dota players: professional, amateur or even good pubbers have the mechanics to land skill shots and CS well enough compared to 'professionals'. His mechanical skill in RTS might let him hit the ceiling faster, but it won't matter in the end when it comes to if he is going to be successful or not because countless players are mechanically good at dota and never amount to anything but pubs. This is the exact opposite of SC2/BroodWar where barely anyone outside the highest skill tier is mechanically proficient.

One time I watched a game that was first on the live game tab, so obviously it was fairly high level, and the AM I was obsing missed every single one whenever his support pulled. Maybe he doesn't play carry often, but either way it's bad at that level.

The purely mechanical one (aka apm related sc2 capable one) is really just that low. If you practice for a few hours in a row with an individual hero you can more or less master the animation, the difference is stuff like game understanding and the conversion of mentality from an individual centric, highly planned out game like sc2 to a team-oriented adaptable game like Dota. It's not really his mechanics holding him back, it's more an issue of things like game knowledge and decision-making
