I don't think anybody really knew how it used to work.

Now it just measures your win/loss % with each hero (-_-)

You are right, it used to compare your level alongside others in your area of mmr. Now it is just based off your own skill with the hero, and from what I can tell and many others have said as well, it seems based off purely the W/L with each hero.

In the dota 2 client it said it was based off your skill compared to others at your level(not the exact wording, but close). Now whether that worked in the intended way, I have no idea. And yes, it seems like it is now off w/l.

He responded that, yes, Valve will provide public matchmaking stats, but NOT until they get their matchmaking just right. He said the reason it isn't public now is because they made the current system when they were relatively new and "stupid at it" and that he doesn't want people basing their skill levels off it yet. Since Dotabuff uses the same sort of system that Valve has now, he didn't think it was accurate or informative, hence the implemented privacy settings.

I'll get the actual recording so you can see it for yourself, but that's it in a nutshell."

At least the part specifically about DBR was in the audio clip that the user posted. (The rough transcript in the DBR thread was a little misleading although with the poor audio quality it is understandable)

Gabe doesn't mention matchmaking specifically in it, he does state that he thinks both Valve's and Dotabuff's are not the best implementations of ratings.

The quote I just linked wasn't recorded that's why he posted it in the thread and said it wont be in until he can get the full recording.

No, it's in the recording. Listen to it. The person who posted that he missed the ratings part was mistaken (At about 6:30 he definitely talks about DBR). The audio recording he posted from his dropbox, not the video.

They may have meant that he said more before he turned the recording on, but it's in the recording he posted.

TY. Well this sucks, I hate when they try to casual down every aspect of the game. Like in SC2 they wouldn't show win/loss in the ladders, and now in Dota2 they dont want people to know where they stand against others, I hate it.

What the fuck? The old ratings didn't make sense, NOBODY KNEW WHAT MADE THEM GO UP OR DOWN. The old ratings were called useless on multiple occasions.
How is this a casualization? W/L rating is definitely better than the mess the old one was.

QPAD is the sponsor of SingSing's & Wagamama's new team.

Announcement:
+ Show Spoiler +

Today we're happy to announce a partnership with a new DotA2 team lead by WehSing 'Sing_Sing' Yuen and Niklas 'Wagamama' Högström known as 'QPAD Dragons'. We're excited to welcome the members to the QPAD family! over 2013 we will work closely with the team to support them in their quest to draw over mini maps at all tournaments. If the players wish to train as a team in preparations for the tournament circuit this year, we even built a boot camp facility at the QPAD offices in Stockholm complete with bunk beds! Though it's not all good news, as surely there will be fights over the top bunk and the single pillow we can provide. As more details get released about the European DotA2 circuit in 2013, we expect to fully support the team to all LAN competitions, and wish them the best of luck this year.

Core Members:
WehSing 'Sing_Sing' Yuen
Niklas 'Wagamama' Högström

Trialing Members:
Craciunescu 'ComeWithMe' Alexandru
Jerry 'EGM' Lundkvist
Benjamin "NotAHax" Läärä
Hampus 'Mini' Olsson

Unfortunately due to recent tournament performances 'Skrff and Weppas from the GD Studio' didn't make the cut.

The Team will be handled by 'The GD Agency' and managed by James '2GD' Harding, Here's what the team had to say about the partnership.

WehSing 'Sing_Sing' Yuen - "I wanna play more Dota2, please stop talking to me."

James '2GD' Harding - "QPAD have been a long term supporter of eSports, I remember back in 2004 when they helped me attend DreamHack Winter at the start of my Quake 4 career and today I'm thrilled to partner with QPAD again to assist the very dedicated DotA2 team in being able to pursue a fulltime career in eSports."

As you can see everyone's a winner! Sings so happy he even drew us a lovely picture during his visit to the QPAD HQ, but for legal reasons we are unable to post it on facebook...

If you wish to know more, The GD Studio are conducting a Q&A session with the players over on twitch.tv/thegdstudio from 20:00 to 20:45 CET today.

I could see my win/loss rating with the old system as well. I don't know what they put into the old performance bar, but it beats the new one simply because I don't care to see a statistic about my heroes compared to my other heroes, I want to see how I am doing against the rest. Anything that take away my ability to compare myself to others is bad, IMO.

Elaborate: How does a system that does not make sense, that nobody really know how is calculated and that give you ZERO insight help you at all in comparing you to other players? My I'm 1-4 on doombringer and all my matches went horribly wrong, yet he was one of my highest ranked heroes. NONE OF THOSE GAMES WERE ME PLAYING WELL.

The old system made zero sense and was useless. The new one atleast has SOME uses, albeit not many.

Some use>Useless.

Love it when people call a game "casual", just because it has no visible stats. Wonder what DotA has been the 6 years before Dota2 with all those tournaments and that playerbase.

wow that's depressing it's basically a fluffy feature now for no point. I liked it before even if it wasn't fully known how it worked. I liked how it 'judged' me versus other players at my level.

The new system got nothing the old system didn't have. I don't need a performance bar to understand that me having 5-0 is better then me having 2-3 with a hero. I can lose games and still play my hero better then the rest of the people near my skilllevel, I can win all games and still play my hero worse then the rest at my skill level. I don't know how they compared it, but if the method was flawed they should improve it, and not just throw it away like now.

If you are refering to me I didn't call the game casual, I said they were making it more casualfriendly by removing the options to directly compare yourself to others.
