IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

We'll also be releasing Dotabuff Plus, an optional service for those wishing to support the site. Remember - nothing that is currently available will ever cost money and your personal DBR will always be free!

Does this mean that accessing other people DBR will require a 'premium account'? Or am I just over thinking this :p

Pretty clever, TBH.

"Well, I'm so much into DotA 2 that I even pay to receive proper analysis on my play, that gives me another reason to tell you that, based on your DBR, you are an asshole who can't farm. Now go fucking play support. Please."

Hmmmm.... pretty sure it's going to be a success. The proper response to any and all DBR talk ingame shall be "lol u use lolking lol"!

lol @ douchebag tax... sounds about right
Very interested to see my own position though am curious what sort of backtesting/ checking DB did to approximately verify the DBR

They have over a year of match histories to base their model on. It isn't like they set out to derive Valve's MMR system.

Obviously out should somehow approximate valve s.
Like sc2 3rd party mmr can be back tested by user feedback on promotion and league.

Since everything is derivative and bayesian, if it is just their own guess without any check for consistency then meh

It is going to be close, just not exact. There is also no way to possibly derive Valve's mmr system since they don't have anything to track it with. They state explicitly that it was checked for consistency, but there is a world of difference between being close and exact. Being exact is pretty much impossible unless the system itself is leaked or somebody can notice a trend. However, there is nothing to notice a trend on because no sort of data is actually displayed by the client. You might be able to do something with where a user appears on the watch list, but you have no other data source to compare it to and make inferences from.

The sc2 mmr was derived because they released top 200 data and trends were noticed between those rankings and the official values in the game. Sc2 mmr is accurate on third party sites because the exact way to calculate it is known. There is no guesswork in calculating your sc2 mmr.

I think the skill bracket (diamond, platinum, etc.) will be public, because the verdict of the poll was public. The exact DBR will probably be private though, unless of course you have Dotabuff Plus.

If you don't want anyone knowing your DBR in a pub game, the most obvious solution is to delete your profile picture and set your profile name to something extremely common. It would be like finding a John Smith in the phone book.

Doesn't work since it's impossible to hide your steam id.

Aren't you usually matched with people of similar mmrs anyway?
why would it matter if they can see yours if yours is like the same as theirs
unless pub people think the menial differences in numbers actually accurately represents skill differentials rather than the current win/loss streak
even lol people don't think like that though. worst player in lol usually is forced to play something only because he is last pick

One way to check how accurate DBR is going to be compared to Valve MMR would be through balanced shuffle i suppose.

Get 10 people in lobby. Balance shuffle them. If total DBR of both sides are close, then DBR is close to Valve's MMR.

It is going to be worth something of course but I doubt it will be taken very seriously by the Competitive community. There are still just pub stats. They don't compensate for stacks. At the moment, the highest DBR people are going to be the Stackers.

Blitz had early access to it and in his stream he said the guy with the highest DBR is the Star only Wisp guy.

In HoN, you were told explicitly where you were ranked relative to each other. This can result in a few unpleasant games where one players refuses to let the weaker player go mid etc...

Would you let your weakest player in your team go against the best player on the other team (blue/pink)? I dont care in 1600-1700 bracket because of smurfs and player are pretty inconsistent. But in 1900 bracket? Fuck that, brown/oj better pick support and be our ward bitches unless you have a fucking impressive winrate with high KDR and GPM.

Also in 1900 bracket, brown/orange is probably 1700. Whereas in 1600-1700 bracket, blue might be 1650 and orange 1600.

24k people out of 200k+ players voted. -_- ya, this voting is pretty meaningful.

Well hope they show how much wards you get etc I dont mind to see my insanely high Assist on my main i guess >_>

This thing is like i said this mmr would be as meaningful as your stats on bnet. Valve at least changed a few times of their algorithms for sure so this mmr from dotabuff wont be accurate and all. I am all for team mmr though, from that team searching mm.

also, douchebad tax is nice haha
