Also, I tuned in to admiral bulldog's stream the other day and he spent 5 minutes blaring on about how bat was the strongest hero in the game... He actually sounded a bit mad about it (He was playing bat that game). Winrate says absolutely fuckall about the quality of a hero though. Lone druid who is ubiquitous in pro play right now has one of the lowest winrates. Using winrate is completely silly.

I should clarify, ABD was playing AS batrider that game.

I wasn't trying to imply that bat isn't broken atm, I was just pointing out that spamming bat in pubs isn't a free win every game.
I'm well aware that pub winrate doesn't mean much (morph was around 43% during TI2 where the pros showed how ridiculous he was). I mean, zeus is at 56+% winrate (!!!) and hes never seen in competitive play, for very good reasons.

My favourite example is that broodmother was always at ~40% winrate, even when he was first pick/ban in competitive play.

Bat in pubs is however ridiculous in pubs when the person playing bad actually gets mid lane and is played well.
Whether or not erasme does that...

ROFL.
Additionally though, teams slowed down on the Brood picks by themselves without any real changes to her balance, IMO because she just wasn't as good as they thought (also meta changes I guess). Like, I remember no-brood pick/ban games in TI2, and it wasn't all that uncommon.

Meta-changes and increased hero pool, as well as knowledge of sentry wards were the largest impact of these I believe. Its too easy to shut down a brood on anything but a solo lane these days, and brood has some serious problems breaching t3's if the other team has good enough turtle heroes (and can turn games around like this).
Also, IIRC IG picked brood against navi a few times in TI2

The bounty increase on her spiderlings makes her pretty unattractive now. You end up feeding the enemy supports/carry alot of gold if you aren't super careful with them.

Sorry, worded that bad. I meant, "I remember some games that brood was neither picked nor banned, and it wasn't all that uncommon".
But yeah, the point was that brood really wasn't as OP as people thought she was, and the meta smoothed it out. Pubs continued to be near-incapable of winning with brood regardless.

I think the real impact is that teams are becoming more confident in dealing with offlaners every day, particularly invis ones. We are starting to see this with bounty hunters among the top tier teams - they are finding ways to kill him and deny XP from him pretty consistently. This is part of the reason that some teams are choosing to abandon the offlane completely.

With kotl being first pick material brood becomes shit tier. He can snipe all her spiders without revealing himself, that's pretty bad

Brood was a lot better in 6.72, with a more pushing/lane-oriented game. Any time after that she was already a situational pick.
Early 5-man DotA doesn't make Brood happy.

cept no one picks es nowadays either really

Actually, I ran it not so long ago and it worked great. Granted I was playing some garbage group of individuals, but it was really nice.

I wish that mentality could be reflected in pubs. Every time I random brood, enemy team instant pick sk/es/lesh. Push so hard .

I never thought about it, but gyro is I guess a pretty good pickup vs brood as well. And gyro is popular among some teams atm (not that any1 would pick brood anyways, the hero is terrible right now).
