I hope this isn't a revert to DotA 1 Boots priority on Meepo. IMO Meepo always using the first-slot boots rather than some arbitrary priority order (requiring you to drop Treads if you had Treads+Travels and wanted a clone to be able to use Travels) was an improvement.
People are saying that it has to do with BoT's not sharing cooldown among meepos.
I feel like that's fair.
BoTs don't share CD in DotA 1.
Though I just checked the dev forum--this is possibly a fix to Arcanes being usable on Meepo clones when its supposed to be disabled for them.

Tournaments aren't actually built into the game in any way.
More detail on Least Played Mode: The top 20 winning heroes for each player will be disabled. Heroes with less than 3 wins will not be disabled.
Sooo it's shit
Really odd thing for them to be working on and implimenting, way out of left field. Kind of makes me worried about my hopes and dreams for dota2 lol. Valve is a great company though so all should be OK. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be like TFC -> TF2. Where valve gives fuckall about competitive play and only cares/supports the casual pub scene. Since they run their own 1.6M tournament, it would seem they do care about competitive play, I just want to see them support it with ingame features.

Unless I read incorrectly, the ladder acts as a feeder system for the tournament though, right? I can't go back and look at it again at the moment (at work) but I seem to remember the top 8 go to a playoff and winners get seeded into the championships or something.

It would have taken them even less time to add -AR matchmaking though, since AR is already playable in custom lobbies.
Which means its probably a deliberate decision by Valve not to have -AR matchmaking.
I remember seeing a dev post at some point saying AR wasn't going to be added to matchmaking. I mean, if you consider the fact that it would impact your MMR, would you really want AR to fuck that up (and valve's algorithm for MMR?). Though, they *should* make the sensible solution of just adding these fun gamemodes to matchmaking without any impact on your MMR.

I wonder if they ever will do that.
The danger of that is the potential to use smurfs to grief new/bad players--since the game mode doesn't affect your MMR, you could constantly queue that mode at a low MMR and crush games without your MMR increasing.

This is true - though perhaps it could have a separate MMR (that starts off based on your normal one) from AP/SD/CM/AR.
Not sure on the difficulty on implementing this, though.

I'm not sure why anyone would be worried about -AR affecting your MMR when people already play SD, RD or now LP (least played). Coupled with the fact that most people in my mmr range just random in AP anyway I don't think many people care or are concerned.
I agree with your last point, it would be neat if these other 'fun' ladders had a seperate rating system or something but I doubt that will happen.
This new mode announcement is just adding to my emo (/wrists) attitude right now with valve matchmaking system on the whole. I think I need to cheer up, get off work and go play some doter.

It does, but the instrumentation of the tournament itself isn't built into the client in any way.
Riot organizes that themselves. Not unlike how Valve runs TI2 quals/TI2.

Just always queue as 5 That will fix your matchmaking problems! (people in mm cm modes are pretty awful, so there's that)
When Valve gives us a proper ranking system, what type of system would be the best do you think? Just straight up MMR/ELO numbers? Leagues with points? Do you want "seasons" with resets like iCCup or ranking to be forever etc etc?
Something interesting pointed out on the dev forum.
In DotA 1, the pathing doesn't account for units you don't have vision of blocking your path. In DotA 2, if there's an obstruction, your unit pathing will take you around, even if you do not have vision of said obstruction.

Could be situationally useful.
Reminds me of a bug on starcraft 2 to find where the enemies base was. Probably needs to be fixed asap.
LP seems like a fun way to play heroes that you are afraid to play in pubs. Personally, I wouldn't play it much since I think doing random in all pick is one of my favorite things to do with my friends. It makes for really crazy and funny scenarios that I enjoy much more than getting into very high mmr.
It's been in the game for a while, and has been repeatedly pointed out. My guess is that a major fix to how pathing works is quite difficult and will probably have to be in the works for a long time before we see it.

I only have 1 friend in my mmr range which makes queuing with 4/5 very awkward. If I queue as 5, it's always some weird mix of good/bad players and the games are very odd lol. Either our 'good' players steamroll their bad ones and we win easily or their 'good' players slaughter our 'bad' players and we get crushed. I don't have much success with my friends lol. However, it can still be fun just because you're playing with your buddies. I really wish I had a lot of equally skilled friends to stack with or scrim. I'd love to get into the more competitive side because I really enjoy competing. I have no delusions of going pro or anything but I'd love to play in whatever tournments I could, like the nadota organized weekend events, ECAL etc., just SOMETHING more than endlessly pubbing.

I know that feeling - I have 2-3 friends I play CM with religiously, and we usually have to find 1-2 random people that are either in a wayyyy different skill bracket or just...something off about them.

It's not nearly as gamebreaking as in SC2 though. In Dota it's sometimes more annoying than useful, since your hero takes unexpected paths for no reason.
