I'm unable to watch but if so that's extremely silly. Because d2l admins suddenly decided that you CANNOT tolerate this one particular bug. And basically broke the game by banning any hero that has an illusion spell or a manta to have a quelling blade in his inventory. It's honestly pretty silly because at most damage values it has very little impact on the game. With regard to PL, the question is almost never HOW FAST your illusions do a jungle camp, but whether an illusion can do the jungle camp by itself--in which case the actual damage difference from this bug doesn't change that much outside of a few edge cases. I don't think the issue so much is clearly jungle camps, but has more to do with how strong the split push is. Is it game breaking? Apparently admins decided it is. I would hardly call it more game breaking than Rubick getting permanent strenght from stealing Morph. That has been ingame forever and has had a much bigger effect on competitive matches. It's on the bugs list and yet I've never seen anyone complain about it. Even the Lothar's bug was put to use with Kunkka in a few games and noone complained. Everyone knew TA had some bugs that made her stronger but she wasn't banned. Dota has a history of adapting to bugs instead doing bans and such, that's what I don't like about the decision. There's also the fact that displacement abilities (Vacuum, Telekinesis, Force Staff, etc.) even moves people onto inaccessible terrain at all (DotA 1 you can't Vacuum people onto inaccessible terrain). Hugely game-changing on any of these heroes, can be used extensively to grief enemy players, and still in the game forever.
Yeah, I was trying to list things that could have easily been banned by tournaments if they chose to do so, but if you add things like Neutrals AI, displacement abilites, wrong ranges outside orb attacks, wrong backswings, etc. there is a huge list of bugs that have been ingame forever and people just don't care. For some reason this one was a big deal.

I like that it shows you're progressing and would (hopefully) lead to more balanced match-ups. Also the competitive aspect of having ladder mean something so that you could qualify for tournaments etc. The change actually has zero effect on how matchmaking works in League. Matchmaking is still done via your ELO/MMR--the league thresholds actually do absolutely nothing to prevent you from being matchmade outside your league. It's just that instead of having your MMR always visible to you, they came up with this new convoluted league system to obscure your MMR from you (exactly like SC2 does).
So while you may have a quip with how matchmaking works in DotA, you highlighted a patch change in LoL that actually has nothing to do with matchmaking. The league system is entirely cosmetic/organizational.

Can we just get real ladders or AR?
This mode? I don't even.. sigh.

AR and SD are fair?
It seems it can be fun, probally will be very random and obviously not the most competitive mode, but pubs are pubs.

IMO Meepo always using the first-slot boots rather than some arbitrary priority order (requiring you to drop Treads if you had Treads+Travels and wanted a clone to be able to use Travels) was an improvement. Anyone tried yet if this is what this fix did? I'm scared. :o
Also least played mode is my new fav mode, instantly. Finally a reason to learn.... Huskar and Clock.

I just played a game of this mode on test client and since I had 0 games played there it was basically AP for me

Anyone else besides me is unable to connect? I got the message with "Connecting to dota 2'... sort of screen.

0-10-0 I think.

Note: I'm awful with Puck.

Do we need leagues or ladders? Just play the damn game...

Yeah, you're right. I shouldn't have tried to show how this change could improve the quality of matchmaking (it won't have an effect).
I think I just liked the infograph because it highlights features (like built in tournaments, like ranked, unranked, and team ladders) that dota lacks that really hurts the game for me.
Do we need leagues or ladders? Just play the damn game...
Of course we do, it adds depth to the game. If done correctly the entire playerbase can be happy, those that don't care can play unranked or even easy mode. Those that strive to get better and want to segway into competitive dota can have an outlet to grow with ranked and team ladders.
It's extremely hard once you're near the topish in the MMR to go from playing pubs for fun and trying to get into a team, get into competitive games etc. Part of the struggle is because there isn't a ton of infrastructure outside the dota scene right now like there was in SC2 with playhems, zotac cups etc., but there is 0 support for this pro-am level playerbase from valve and that is a bad thing, it doesn't help grow the hardcore, dedicated scene.
We should be able to satisfy everyone like LoL and HoN already do. We shouldn't have the entire playerbase mixed up in 1 poorly matched pool.

I feel like that's fair.

Can you swap in least played mode? I imagine if you play stack you can just pass around heroes
nevermind. If it's only 20 it doesn't even matter.
|
More detail on Least Played Mode: The top 20 winning heroes for each player will be disabled. Heroes with less than 3 wins will not be disabled.
Sooo it's shit

It's AP for people that don't want to play with Drow players I guess. Unless you play a fairly small pool of heroes, it doesn't change much at all. Can you at least random in it?
