There are a variety of options. I have yet to play meepo (multiple randoms of him have resulted in manning-down and repicking XD), but most other heroes I can control with 3 control groups. 1 = hero, 2 = minions/summons/bear/whatever, 3 = everything.
If you adopt a control scheme similar to that, you can bind F1 to your hero (I think this is default), and then use tab or capslock or similar for the other 2 groups (not sure about F2/F3 and being able to use them).
Note: Beastmaster is a special case because his bird and boar should always be controlled separately. Keep in mind that the game remembers hotkeys for summoned units even if they die and you resummon them (for all summoned units like bear, treants, necro minions, etc). It doesn't work QUITE the same for chen/enchantress creeps, but with some practice you get used to them.
EDIT: yeah, if you are willing to relearn item hotkeys, bind them to Mouse4/5 and zxcv or similar. I use alt+qweasd but merlini recommends NOT using alt for items and I tend to agree with him (too lazy to relearn). That leaves 1-6 for control groups which is pretty optimal imo.

I do alt + QWEASD for items.

what works for you best should be the right option

most progamers/tryhards dont use 1-6, however for me 1-6 is just fine since most heroes dont require control groups anyways.

Feels kinda suboptimal. Is there a general consensus on which hotkeys to use? Standard hotkeys? Try the F keys for control groups if you can reach them
I use 1-6 for control groups, QWERDF for skills and ZXCVBN for items, works perfectly for me, and involves very little hand movement.
But im pretty sure its a person to person thing
EDIT: OD picked in a comp match, havent seen that in a long time oO

I believe Orange picked it against DK recently.

I personally use legacy and alt-QWEASD for items.

Really is a person to person thing. Generally, most people use Mouse4+Mouse5 for twitchy items (blink dagger/force staff/sheep) and another row for items that get used methodically as part of a combo.
I like using the f1-f3 keys and Z as my final. I do this because I use a Das keyboard w/o key markers, and if I am in a teamfight, I dont want to accidentally trigger my item when I am trying to do something else. Using the f1-f3 is right where the index, middle, and ring finger hit when you fully extend them.

So happy they chose that Shadow Shaman set for the Polycount contest, I play more Shadow Shaman way too much and I'm stoked to waste some money soon on getting another outfit for my Rasta.

Probably old news but team pennants are on sale again.

What's the reason behind the decision to still have that Rosh imbalance in Dota2? His position is just so much better for Dire.
|
Radiant has some lane advantages too (can pull from all lanes)... kinda,
Dunno if that should counter the rosh position for dire, probably not >_> *shrug*

First pick (vs Second Pick) has a higher winrate than Dire (vs Radiant). Because First pick is ussually Radiant, Radiant actually wins more than Dire. The advantage is smaller than the one for First Pick though, which probally means that Dire is indeed slightly better, it just doesn't matter that much.

Because the map also has things that favor the radiant? It's not like dire has a massive win-percentage over the radiant, in fact radiant has the higher win percentage by a very small margin in DotA2. Both in pubs and competitive games.
And killing rosh was even nerfed last patch or so.

Anyone feels like the first Ban Phase should be 3 instead of 2?
That would allow a bit more variety on heroes right?

That would allow a bit more variety on heroes right? It used to be 3 until very recently at TI2. And tbh it was even more stagnant.
