Carrying low level players is not that hard. Yeah it's annoying but I think a big part of learning to be a better player has to do with being self reliant but also being able to tell what your team wants to do. No matter how good you are 1v5ing doesnt work unless you are like 6 levels and 10k gold ahead of the next player on their team and they have no cc. Generally try to pick what your team needs but always pick someone that will benefit some amount from gold and experience. Avoid playing heroes that require more than 10 minutes of safe farm to be useful and play manly ones that can do a lot by themselves with a few minor items.

Also keep in mind that not every game is winnable. Just try your best and you will start winning eventually. The fact that you are losing means only that there is something that you need to learn.

I'm not claiming to be great but I went from where you are (probably even worse) to maybe the ~60th percentile of players (on the border of high). The game is so much more enjoyable when people have at least a semblance of knowledge about what to do.

Friday night and was just checking it out while waiting for queue to pop since I hadn't seen it before. I don't usually watch Dendi anyway.

Noted, all the comments.

And low masters in SC2 is like... 10,000x worse then a pro so i thought it was a good assessment. And yes perhaps i focus too hard on my teammates and too little on my opponents but christ it's annoying. Runes to gank is noted, i was probably too focused on my own farm over ganking for my teammates which in the end is farm aswell.

I felt the same with the poster above regarding team mates. But now I've learned not to rage and complain about how bad they are because odds are, someone else will do that for me. And I understand that everyone will have bad games, first time playing the hero, doing an experimental/troll build, or just generally plain trash, so now it doesn't bother me... After all, it's pub anyway and I'd like to believe that most players will play to win.

I don't talk shit to noob team mates anymore. If I can give constructive criticism or small advice, I will, but most of the time I'll just focus on improving my mechanics and my map awareness instead. Another thing I realized is that on games I won, it could also be that the enemy team is filled with the same noobs I used to complain about. In the end, it all works out. When you're solo queuing, just make sure to not always expect wins even with "top-tier" picks and just play. Hopefully the MMR is good enough to balance the players, or roughly have the same number of games where you stomp AND get stomped.

Unfortunately, most pub games for me end up like that. Rarely is it a close, back and forth game and the winner is usually determined by the 20 min mark, the rest of the time, it's just more stomping.

Ok seriously i have to ask, how do you get up in the ranks? I am a more then decent dota player, mid level i'd guess and i swear i cannot advance to higher play. There is no way i am at where i am supposed to be atm. I have 35 wins and 55 losses so far and i have tried carrying games in so many ways. I just lost a game as a pumped as hell Luna, heart, manta, satanic, shadow blade and i was 16 - 2, being three levels above the enemy teams highest player and i still lost that game. Enemy finally smartened up and poured _everything_ onto me and i died and that was gg since my teammates were less then stellar. Use bkb more so i can solo and entire team easier?

I have bad days, sure and am ocasionally the feeder but overall i have by far the best stats on my team trying to help out as much as possible but... the teammates just... no wards ofcourse, obviously, nobody ever buys dust either but i do for easy kills. The biggest thing is they engage in fights whenever they are outnumbered or in really bad spots and they all just die with me spamming "do not engage, run back". Anyone have any tips on actually winning low level games? It's not the lowest of the low levels but it's pretty low. Like people always mock me for going SB with gondar and swear battlefury is the way to go. That level of play.

Honestly, not to sound rude but if you are stuck in midlevel you are "not a more than decent". I consider myself decent and my team has won vs somewhat known teams like Out of Tangos in tournaments. Similar to physics / math, the more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to learn. Like all the mid-late game decisionmaking as all roles, teamfight positioning. Knowing what your role is supposed to do in a teamfight rather than just be "fighting". Being mid you have to know how to control the runes, how to never fail ganks because it would be inefficient. Knowing how to keep your momentum from a good start to continue snowballing. Or how to come back from a bad start to be relevant in the game. Knowing when to fight and defend towers, and when to splitpush and abandon them because you can't defend them.

Also another "proof" that you have a lot to improve on is that you use your score as a "proof" that you are good. You have to realize that score is far from everything. Since you are facing weak opponents it's easier to get good score. Even though you lost a 16-2 game means you probably also have won a 0-10ish game. It goes both ways, you just have to be consistant.

You can always try to improve your mechanical part of the game. Like never fail last-hits, because they are super important, having 20 more CS at 6min is gamechanging. You should also be checking minimap like very frequently. You should check the minimap constantly, like every 5seconds, throughout the game. You should always notice when there are movement towards you from the enemy team. Or if a level 6 tidehunter suddenly disappeared from another lane. Can't blame it on wards if he tp'd to the tower. Wards help but there are counters to them.

It's when you are facing opponents who know what they are doing it's difficult. It's stupidly difficult to gank Scandal, trust me, I've tried T_T

Sorry to say, but you are stuck there for a reason. Stop blaming it on your teammates and start to improve yourself. I've never met someone who is stuck at a certain skill and felt like they deserve to be higher. Keep practicing, you will become better. Dota has incredible depth, it just took me like 3000 matches to realize that. But most importantly, have fun. Simply by playing the game you will improve, cause most of the decision making you have to do only comes from experience.

Good luck : )

Nice post but all that which you wrote, does not happen in my games. I don't "need to control the runes"(yet i do somewhat) because nobody goes for the runes dude, if they do it's by mere chance. I consider myself mid level and do fine when i queue with a friend who is in the "high" pool. He carries me a lil bit but other then that i do ok if i play tank/support.

Solo is another thing. It's not me when my bottom lane has fed a nyx to 8 - 0 10 min into the game and he now has a rank 2 dagon and just walsing around two shotting everyone. It's not me when it takes the entire enemy team to kill me and my teammates don't engage. It's not me when i blink in on axe, taunt 3+ players with blade mail rolling and the rest of my team stands idly by our base tower even though i called blinking 5 seconds earlier.

I played Slardar tonight and a caught two enemies in our woods by the hard creeps on green side, and i have two teammates in the mid lane. It takes the two heroes i caught close to 30 seconds to kill me(casters i had a hood and they kept ccing since i was actually killing them) and i don't drop until they have a third enter. My teammates never moved an inch from farming despite me pinging and typing like a madman.

Those are my games dude. I can sure as hell improve a ton, but as to me getting to some decent games where my teams picks aren't: Void, drow, antimage and some other damage dealer it's really all about having the most god awfull teammates known to man. Hence i asked for the best faceroll hero there is so i can win games alone because that's what i have to do.

To make it even clearer, people don't lasthit or deny in my games on either sides, rare occasions happen where they do but most often they just auto attack. That's where i am atm and i really really need to get out.

Compared to the best players i am god awfull ofcourse, but on a public non pro gamer level, i am decent. Say Low masters if u wanna use SC2 terms.

I've actually smurfed on a `new account' from normal to very high. Especially at normal, team mates are never an excuse. If you are consistently the most skilled player on the team, it is quite straight forward to get an 80%+ win rate in normal.

If you actually want some honest feedback, you need to post your dotabuff profile.

Ain no case do you not "need to control runes" there are heroes that benefit more than others yes. But if no one goes for them makes it that much easier for you to use them. Getting a rune means regen, ridiculous harass and ganking potential. If they don't last hit or deny, solo mid, crush the lane a few times and proceed to killing everyone else.

Another thing is. Thou don't always have the 0-10 feeder. Yes it happens but dots isn't just 1 game. Sometimes it IS an unavoidable loss.

On iPod idk why I didn't quote .___.

I was testing out the whole MMR thing earlier, made a new account, set it as Medium skill level, and set out to do games and see how long it takes to get out of the normal bracket. (typically I queue into very high bracket on my main account).

Also, this is solo-queuing only.. And picking mostly mid heroes or good heroes in general. (so I can have a higher chance to impact the outcome of the game).

Account: https://dotabuff.com/players/117529260

First game on the account was with a bunch of scrubs, basically the boonies level of the normal bracket. Went drow, wrecked in lane, forced slar to rage quit, ended 3-1 (got ks'd like wtf) with a 15 min shadow blade, double wraith band, treads, magic wand.

Second game, another game in the scrub-level of the normal bracket.. Went TA mid this time. Started off like 9-1, but my team was feeding hard.. Then our sniper who was like 0-4 or something rage quits, then our axe leaves after the game is safe to leave. I get 2 rapiers and we almost 3v5, but couldn't; ended up losing the rapiers too ((. I end up 20-2 that game, 400+ cs. Was a loss.

Third game was in the High bracket, and the skill was considerably higher (I could tell right away); picked ES to counter their ck and we won in a 22 minute stomp against a 4-5 stack. So it took only 2 games with a 1-1 record to get out of the normal bracket. After I had that 20-2 game, and it put me up into the high bracket next.

I've concluded that MMR/Bracket system revolves around your score/farm also. Like if you have a really high score, it will bump you up a bracket. I've had that happen on my main account also where I was in the high bracket for a long time.. Then had a 28-4 game on SF, and then suddenly my next game was in very high.

The bracket/mmr system definitely revolves around more then just your win-loss though, thats for sure.

Based off of what I've seen so far.. It seems definitely feasible to be in the Very High bracket after 10 games or less. Someone made a post bragging about it a little while ago saying they got into 4th page of the live games after 10-11 games, so I decided to try it myself.. But it definitely seems possible if you have some good games and put up some good scores. We'll see how long it takes to get to the very high bracket now, onto game 4 soon!

Oh wow, the "difficulty" option at start matters for MMR? And how do you know what bracket you're in?

I'm trying to test it in order to find out if it does anything, and also to try to help others answer the question of "Wtf do I do to go up in bracket/mmr?"

I'm still not sure yet. I didn't pick expert though, and was in a high bracket game by game #3. So I don't think it makes any difference if you set as expert, or as medium when you are on a new account.. It puts you in the scrub boonies of the normal bracket either way. I've tested it on "expert" also, and was still with scrubs for the first few games.

The only way I think it makes a difference is if you set it for the first option, saying you're basically "brand new" to the game.

Oh, and to find what bracket you're in, you go to "Watch" in-game.. Then "Recent Games" then hit filter.. Type your name in the player box, and set the bracket under "Skill-level".. And you can search various skill levels for your games.

There was a source saying that your MMR is NOT based off your score/kill only by wins/losses against the skill of your opponent.

This is my theory. Early on when you don't have that many games played and the system doesn't know for sure what skill level you are at; wins and losses can dramatically boost or lower your MMR. However, once you have maybe around 50-100 games played, your change in MMR is much less drastic and slower. Otherwise if you just had 2-3 good games or 2-3 bad games in a row you could drop off significantly, even if the system already knows what your MMR is roughly. Think of your first 10 or so games as "placement" matches.

nope, its only your first few games as an anti-smurf device.

Also worth noting, almost everyone is 'very high.' Having your games described like that by the game search function means next to zilch.

Uh, that's not true at all. There is definitely a fine line between very high and high. It is definitely AT LEAST top 10%, but more like top 4%.

I believe I remember before when it was low, medium, high, high was around top 10%, and very high is most definitely different from that now.

If you know how to play you can play mid and you'll have a big impact on the game. I'm pretty bad, but I know more or less how to play and I don't remember the last time I lost a game when I played mid. In low level games runes are not warded so after level 6-7, rune = successful gank a side lane (well unless it's an illusion rune but even then it can work) = tower pushed = money = everyone on your team getting farm. I don't play mid often tho, as I'm not too fond of picking a mid and fighting for mid with random people so usually I last pick.
