The item in itself gives a lot more than a hex: +10 str +10 agi +35 int +150% manaregen So, there's a lot more than just a hex. Also, the item ability has a bigger range (800 compared to 500) - hence Puppey argued that it'd be at most a 2 point something k item. Although nothing of what he said is set in stone, I think there's a great deal of truth behind it. He argued that Empower giving 50% damage and 50% cleave would be worth 6-7k (I think), compared to BF which gives a flat +65 damage and 35% cleave. Empower also frees up a slot and can be cast at three heroes simultaneously. Again, he might've been raging a bit, and it's not clear cut numbers, but I do think he has a valid point. hero hexes are on way shorter cd, if you were buying hex (literally just the hex no stats) for 2k that'd be pretty broken anyways i just meant that comparisons to items is dumb lol

(avoiding ultimates... and delibrately avoiding top 5 bans) the point is putting prices to spells is an incredibly incredibly stupid idea and shouldnt be considered when thinking about balance

I think empower is quite a bit too strong. Sure, you could partly handle it by nerfing skewer and shockwave, but yeah.

The sudden buffs to heroes I feel is Icefrog's new way of telling everyone that these heroes are pretty good in their own way. Before you had these sleeper heroes that were probably going to make a splash in the meta at some point but pros were either naive or lazy in implementing them into strategies. Dark seer was one of these sleeper heroes that got buffed slowly, like they were suggesting on talkdota, but no one cared about until he was noticeably overbuffed. Perhaps it'd be a bit too hectic if similar situations happened frequently. The only thing real problem is that there aren't stable versions like in wc3 DotA. There's an option to switch versions when you create games so I'm not exactly sure why stable versions haven't been established and all tournaments are using the latest. Balance wise though, I don't see how people can abandon the work Icefrog has done over years in one or two patches. The man has been proven time and time again to be reliable. In Icefrog I trust.

And the biggest issues are indeed not on -CM right now. Magnus is the exception, but that's also because he got buffed by Dota 2, which is a diferent problem. And I don't think anyone is saying IceFrog lost his touch, or that this version is complete shit and Dota is doomed, there are good and patches, as happens on everything, and the latest patch seems to have some issues.

He wasn't even blatantly OP when he was added and it took a while for people to catch on. I'd even rate TA above him. This is definitely one of the most balanced versions of dota 2 as of late, and any OP heroes are pretty easily covered in the banning phase. Dark seer, TA, bat, magnus. Sven is highly overrated as a hard carry imo and will die down a bit as more people come to realize it. He's not even top ban/pick in china right now. Also to add with Magnus just becoming relevant is that Sven was barely picked before DreamHack and now he's top tier. Heroes gets discovered etc and there will still be new heroes getting picked up when people find how useful they are. I think Puppey is just angry because he has less success this meta, which is very understandable. But he can't really blame it on balance, because unlike StarCraft, you can pick the heroes yourself. It's not like he's stuck with the same heroes (like you are stuck with your race in SC). If he think Sven is THAT overpowered, then either ban or pick him..

It's likely also because he isn't doing well, but perhaps the fact he doesn't like the current state of the game also has an effect on that, if you convince yourself that there is something wrong with the game, it does affect your performance. I think, or at least I would like to believe, that when Puppey says the hero is broken he means conceptually, at least partially, that this kind of thing isn't good for Dota. Doesn't mean he is right, but QQing about OP heroes just doesn't make that much sense, there have always been OP heroes and the format of a Dota game means they don't matter that much.

Valve uploads the pictures with the same url for the patches and one of the beta testers is always the first one to post them on reddit. I love how someone put in the effort to mess with him :D
