Again people... You're typing on a FORUM. Learn to type out words so people can understand you. It takes a few more keystrokes (not even a noticeable amount if you're a gamer) just to make sure people know what you're referring to. If you want to use "QWER" or some Legacy combination set of keys ingame, whatever.. keystrokes for gameplay matters there.

PLEASE TYPE OUT THINGS IN WORDS, not everyone reads things using the same mindset. ffs... =x

@NB not getting level 2 invoke at level 7 might be dubious, but I suppose if you don't need 2 spells to kill your lane... I mean, I agree, the potential is there. Seems easier with enigma though because he can already do it at ~level 7 with a Medallion.

@Qbek nubs don't know wtf SS is either. And I didn't until this discussion.

More edits: I also don't mind 1141 (aka best veno build) but that doesn't really clarify the order you get them in, which can be very important.

Iceiceice skips invoke 2 until level 10 sometimes. It let him get dual forge spirits at level 9.

I really wanted to call it his "E" since, well, everybody understands what that means but apparently calling stuff by their default hotkeys makes people mad (and by other logic presented, calling it his "third skill" places unacceptable burden of knowledge on casual thread readers who are liable to forget the order of his abilities since they only played nyx once...)

If I were a new player reading this thread, I'd still rather see the name of the skill. I personally still legacy, but you don't see me going around saying "hold off on skilling your D or B before seeing your lane and max F first." Why make things confusing for people?

Who is honestly going to be confused if you say "Skill E first on lane" or whatever because it's always the 3rd skill.

People who don't remember the order of the 4 skills?

It's not inconceivable that you wouldn't remember the order of the first 3 skills if you've only played the hero once.

I honestly don't know why that makes a difference when Q W E R are always the skills in order of left to right

Because people don't remember the left-to-right order of the skills.

They remember what the skills do, not where they are on the UI. Why is that hard to understand?

EDIT: there's also the increasingly common case where someone's WATCHED the hero in a competitive game, but haven't actually played the hero yet. They know what their 4 skills do, but not what skills they are on the UI.

It doesn't matter imo. When you see qop using scream to kill pudge, it doesn't matter the caster says "qop just use Scream of Pain to kill Pudge" or "qop just use E to kill Pudge", you still immediately associate the spell qop just casted to the name that caster said. As a matter of fact, calling E makes it much easier for players when they start playing the hero, although I don't recommend it because casting needs to be professional.

If you can tell me every skill for every hero in order I'll be okay with you holding to your ill-conceived point.

If you don't play heroes using legacy key, and start playing heroes with QWER, your learning memory will develop differently compared to people who play using legacy key. They usually remember the skill order because that's the optimized way for them.
So yes, I think that if you ask a person who play QWER since the beginning about heroes that he has been playing, I'm pretty sure he will answer your question perfectly.

I might be able to do every hero in Dota 2, but the newish Dota 1 heroes? No chance. I can't even name any of them except Xin and that's because I see people bitch about him a lot.

Bristleback's a pretty good hero in the new meta, his Q is as bullshit as always, W is strong, E's got a buff and R is silly, what a good hero, completely OP imo.

Notice how that doesn't work, because DotA heroes aren't designed with QWER in mind

Well obviously he only has 3 spells and his ulti durr, he has 3 different razes and his ulti. Thus QWER.
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!

Related, how do you describe the individual razes without using the hotkey (C-raze/X-raze/Z-raze)?

Yeah, I think the fundamental disconnect here is that every single person who learned on QWER or has used QWER for a decent amount of time could easily do flamewheel's challenge barring a mistake or 2 on heroes they don't play. However, people who use different/legacy keys think about the abilities fundamentally differently and the challenge seems kinda impossible. Its a very interesting disconnect that isn't obvious because we use the abilities the same way, it has no bearing on skill, understanding or anything else. Just the way you learned it. Its actually fascinating how different the ideologies are for no reason other than how we learned the game.

Please don't bring league into this, it is completely irrelevant. I don't think of earth spike as "a Q" but rather as "Lion's Q". Classifying it as a Q is merely shorthand, not a description of the spell.

@kupon I understood exactly what you meant, although I know you pulled it out of your ass and none of it was true.

EDIT: its true, SF is funny, but thats fine. You still level him "w,q,q,w,q,w,q,w" aka one in soulsteal, max raze then soulsteal, ult at 9 and 11. The razes are cast with QWE so you get to call them Q, W and E and it is very easy to comprehend for anybody who has played him with QWER. Really it is. I get that it isn't intuitive.

Why are people getting so crazy about legacy or QWER or how it relates to certain heroes?

I've played a ton of dota1, a wee bit of HoN and switched to QWER when I got into dota2 beta in November 2011. QWER is definitely easier and more effecient once you're used to it.

Also I don't understand the point that 'dota heroes weren't made with QWER in mind' as LoL might have been with spammy skills Q etc. HoN didn't port dota 2 heroes in mind with QWER or create new heroes with QWER (other than Ult is always R) and it works just fine.

You adjust to the keys and it doesn't need to follow a pattern. I know every heroes QWER now just as I used to know every heroes Legacy.

We're really applying way too much philosophical thought process to an easy keybind system. The last few pages are quite strange.

why would you need to describe the razes if the SF knows what he is doing :D.... The only thing that separate a good SF to a bad SF is blink-razing and non of the SF going dagger now aday. The hero is pretty straight forward for people from high mmr and above. People who cant play SF actually knows how to repick him now. Seriously yesterday i got a SF random on my team repicked into drow @_@ So sick.

no, bristleback is literally one of the most broken heroes once people learn to pick it up, what is untrue about my statement, unless u thought that Q was Quills, which it isn't

6.75 chen, invoker, heroes with extra skill hotkeys (bane, kunka, puck, doom, etc). The non-legacy invoker is hard to get used to, given that the skills change hotkeys.

Oh and wisp, don't the hotkeys change? Tether, untether, wisp balls, expand retract, overload. If I said wisp is using d, do most people know whether that's expanding or retracting?

Bristleback isn't broken, I know that W is his quills, and I fail to see how his Q is "bullshit as always". You just came up with it to try and make it sound opaque/retarded, and it wasn't. I will admit that I haven't kept up with his patch history since he is Dota 1 only right now, so I can't comment on the status of his E recieving a buff (oh yeah it procs ON the damage threshold not the instance after it, I do remember now). Not sure what is silly about his R but sure.

It really is intuitive to people who learned it that way.
