@NB not getting level 2 invoke at level 7 might be dubious, but I suppose if you don't need 2 spells to kill your lane... I mean, I agree, the potential is there. Seems easier with enigma though because he can already do it at ~level 7 with a Medallion.

@Qbek nubs don't know wtf SS is either. And I didn't until this discussion.

More edits: I also don't mind 1141 (aka best veno build) but that doesn't really clarify the order you get them in, which can be very important.

If I were a new player reading this thread, I'd still rather see the name of the skill. I personally still legacy, but you don't see me going around saying "hold off on skilling your D or B before seeing your lane and max F first." Why make things confusing for people?

Who is honestly going to be confused if you say "Skill E first on lane" or whatever because it's always the 3rd skill.

People who don't remember the order of the 4 skills?

It's not inconceivable that you wouldn't remember the order of the first 3 skills if you've only played the hero once.

And you don't really need to have rember the exact name of the skill just name it by what it does. You don't need to know how pa blink is called, just call it blink

That's why when presenting a build you type in full names, I'm just a lazy fucker presenting a draft of skill build presentation.

The first example I can think of where 1-word descriptions could be awkward is Axe.

How do you describe what Battle Hunger does in 1 word?

Dot is enough, it needs to be enough for someone who knows the skills to not mistake them with others. For axe it's taunt dot passive ult

I have played 1200 hours of Dota 2, and more than twice that many hours of Dota 1. I have no clue what order the skills are for the vast majority of heroes (probably 98% of them).

I know what the hotkeys are in legacy, but I never ever quoted people hotkeys when refering to skills. Impale's hotkey (in legacy) is "e" but I never called it "lion's e."

Using QWER names for spells alienates half the userbase. Learning the skill names is more useful than learning what order the spells are in, because I don't know what Viper's W or Crystal Maiden's Q are, but I know whatever spells those co-respond with.
Eagerly awaiting Techies.

Nyx's damage reflect thingy is pretty hard to call one word. Or at least, "Reflect!" (the best I could come up with) won't ring a bell in the heat of battle.

I really wanted to call it his "E" since, well, everybody understands what that means but apparently calling stuff by their default hotkeys makes people mad (and by other logic presented, calling it his "third skill" places unacceptable burden of knowledge on casual thread readers who are liable to forget the order of his abilities since they only played nyx once...)

But on the other hand, people who interact with QWER before legacy key usually pick up the spell order the seconds they play that particular heroes. People who use legacy key first develop differently with people who use QWER first. Calling QWER in dota is like calling B14, B31 in CounterStrike, it's too popular and global to not understand what it is.

Because people don't remember the left-to-right order of the skills.

They remember what the skills do, not where they are on the UI. Why is that hard to understand?

EDIT: there's also the increasingly common case where someone's WATCHED the hero in a competitive game, but haven't actually played the hero yet. They know what their 4 skills do, but not what skills they are on the UI.

K, sorry for ruining 2 pages of thread

I still think QWER is fine. As more people play Dota 2, it will become more standard, but if people want to resist super hard that is up to them.

Nobody uses "Take the bishop with his knight" when discussing chess moves. It is always "Nxe5 seems good".

Your chess analogy compares two different groups of people. Those who say "Nxe5" have experience. Yet if you're teaching a new person, there's nothing wrong with the former.

Though I still personally can say "NxB", though that's both discursive and deprecated.

As I keep telling you Yango, QWER is something that is excellent for LoL due to the way champions are designed and built, every LoL champion has a "Q", aka "spell u spam all the time", and an "E" aka "this is the utility/disable castable spell", this, along with the general way LoL spells are far lower impact are hero designs are similar, is what leads to QWER being extremely convient and useful in LoL because u can say "AP Mid A's Q is better than AP Mid B's Q because it has bigger numbers, thus AP Mid A is better at spamming".

The way DotA heroes are far more unique and not streamlined in structure just make using QWER unnecessarily silly.
When in doubt, just believe in yourself and press buttons
