Doesn't change that I find the official version to be counter-intuitive.

And i think that your view makes no sense, as it is bullshit to name things after something that differs from game to game. the distance between tier 1 and tier 3 never changes

If you took the words out and handed that map to a brand new player, almost all of them would think the lone lanes were reversed. Or they would try and over analyze it like me, and STILL come to the wrong answer (creep walking distance).
I'm with Evo, I think hard/easy is much more succinct....though, most of the casters I listen to at this point do say "hard" and "easy" or "suicide"...I haven't heard any of them say long or short lane in a while.

Why do you even count the warzone as your land? Even if you draw a line connecting all 3 t1 towers, you'll see clearly which one is short lane, which one is long.

Lol guys stop already. Call it safe/hard and no problem. Both have their reasons that are pretty valid. This doesn't change the fact that the picture posted earlier was completely bullshit xD It should be colored only up to the towers

I'd appreciate an explanation on each of those points, because none of them are inherently obvious. For example, I think that dire mid is much safer and harder to gank, since you have to tower dive to do it from below, whereas ganking radiant mid from below is really, really easy (assuming a semi-intelligent path through the jungle).

heh distance to river is the easy judge of long/short. the offlane for both sides has a very short distance to touching river while the safe lanes have to wrap around the corners of the map to touch river.
