How did icefrog go about gathering statistics in dota1? Surely he had no way of knowing how the heroes impact pubs, right? Apart from a lot of anecdotal evidence I suspect.. I don't think icefrog will care too much about dotabuff stats, nor should he, imo. Standard MO for him to proceed with centaur as he did with xin and others anyway.
edit: I really like that he's not tweaking the global part of cent's ulti. Changing it to pbaoe or something like that wouldn't impact it in teamfights anyway, and would only reduce the dimension/skill involved of this ability. Adjust the numbers but keep the global, I like the way he's doing things.

All of the major Chinese DotA1, as well as international systems like Garena, track player stats and have visible mmr. Those system, especially the Chinese ones, are extremely detailed, it'd be like having a Dotabuff built into your platform that tracks things like single hero mmr as well as overall mmr in some really silly algorithms.

Really? Garena has player stats? I don't recall anything like that when I played dota there a while back. Is it a new addition?

The only Garena player stats that matter are how many times u've nuj'd people
I always felt Nortrom's role begins as support and then transitions into a semi-carry. Thus I've always skilled him maxing Curse+Last word,(prioritizing Curse) and only 1 in Glaives. Now with the change to LW I'll probably skill him as so.
Depending on lane, 1 Curse to start off most of the time. 2 Word, 3 Word, 4 Glaive, 5 Word, 6, Ult, 7 Word, 8,9,10 Curse, 11 STFUCUP, 12-13 Stats, 14,15 Glaive, 16 Another Cup, 17 Glaive, Stats.
Early Glaive Logic: Orb Walking tool + "Glaives of Wisdom's intelligence steal is not retroactive, meaning any kills made before you level Glaives of Wisdom at least once will not count." - Need a point to start gathering INT for the carry transition.
Maxed Word Silences for 6, same duration of Curse. Perfect synergy to place one ontop of another for a kill. Also with the buffed Global Silence, 4 seconds at level 1 means you get the most bang out of your buck with Curse (can get 4 ticks off).
I've been tinkering bit with Silencer and prefer going some sort of 4-1-4 and taking ult at 10 and 11. Glaive damage doesn't scale too well early on anyway. Biggest problem is, you can't really spam them, the high cost limits the usage pretty much and he needs quick levels to get maximum out of the skills (level 4 Last Word silence lets the Curse run full duration).
This brings the issue, do you want him to mid when there are so many other options that probably work better with rest of the team? Do you put him in somekind of dual lane to support? He can't peel off people, only harass to hell, but risks getting destroyed when facing multiple heroes. He is at weird spot at the moment. Maybe playing aggressive dual with jungle to shut down someone.
Wow, last word is such a powerful ability now. For 100 mana you get so much. A guaranteed silence and nuke and even a potential disarm. Today I saw a silencer only get 1 point in it while maxing the others and I would've laughed were he not on my team

I think it's weaker than the aura was in the situations that the aura was good (e.g. against teams where you really need that combo-interrupting ability. But in most normal cases, the new ability seems decent.
The only thing I dislike is how harsh the cooldown is on the lower ranks. 36 second CD is...unwieldy. Although I guess anything less than that for a 900 range point-and-click skill that does 150 damage on the first rank would be too strong.

kinda weird that 300 range 10 damage and a silence effect are worth 5 mana and 24 seconds on cooldown.
