Recommended items in-game counts for a lot because >50% of the community can't think for themselves ![]() I still feel like Treads -> Manta -> Bfly is the way to go if you have the farm. However, it can be hard to farm that, whereas HoD makes farming substantially easier (lifesteal + dominated creep to tank/stack/etc). I kinda feel like crits are later-game items since they are % based as opposed to static number boosts. Crystalys is 35 + 15%, Daedalus is 81 + 42.5%. When the aura wasn't global based on your agi, Daedalus was a legitimate first item after yasha/manta. Crystalys is 20% to crit, not 15%. Daedalus is 25%. Unless you mean Crystalys effectively adds 15% extra damage? Which still does't mathematically work out, as it's a 20% chance to cause 175% damage. Not trying to correct you, just curious what you meant by "+15%" and "+42.5%"?

Not trying to correct you, just curious what you meant by "+15%" and "+42.5%"? 175% damage is a 75% increase to damage (you do 100% damage whenever you attack). One fifth of 75 (20% chance to crit) is 15. The critical strike chance effectively adds 15% bonus damage. The math behind it is perfectly fine. Burst damage from crits is far more dynamic than this though so you should hesitate to merely call it a static damage increase.

It depends quite a lot on your farm, if you can pick up your Manta really early there's no need for BKB after yasha. An early BKB would be the obvious choice if you're planning on having a lot of team fight presence in the early game, especially if you're facing a lot of nukers/stunners. If you're owning your opponents hard, you wouldn't need to get BKB that early either. If you're facing noobs you don't really have to get it at all. Also, positioning is crucial on Drow, and if you play your cards right, you can easily go for yet another item before you pick up the BKB.

Crystalys adds 20% chance (0.2) to crit for 175% AKA 75% extra damage (0.75). So, 0.2*0.75=0.15 which is 15% added damage (on average). Similar math applies to Daedalus. You have a 25% chance (0.25) to crit for 270% AKA 170% extra damage (1.7). So, 0.25*1.7=0.425 which is 42.5% damage added (on average). Obviously no single attack will give you exactly the numbers above, but the average over all your attacks should approach the numbers I gave (assuming a decent pseudorandom generator )EDIT: I'm slow

I don't understand why everyone tries to delay the BKB by so much. It will save you from deaths while in turn having decent stats which will increase your farm by a small margin. It also allows harder pushes resulting in more tower deaths resulting in higher net gold. Delaying BKB is almost never the correct choice unless the other team has super marginal stuns and magic damage.

Also, BKB's stats are pretty bad for the cost, (compare to sange for 1/2 the price) so it isn't helping you farm the way some other, decently cheap damage items do. EDIT: I'm not arguing against BKB, I'm just throwing out some rationalizations for later BKBs against some lineups. The item itself is still really, really good.

Speaking of that, has anyone else noticed that? It's purely anecdotal, I have no evidence beyond very non-scientific research, but just from asking opposing teams, I find that when I party up with just one person (my RL best friend who I got in to DotA), we regularly (>50% of time), get put up against five stacks. It's like the MM system matches "Team to team" and completely ignores team size? Again, it's all anecdotal. Really just compiled from me asking the opposing team if they are a five man.
