Click on a BarCraft to jump to that summary

After a wild season the MLG wrapped up it's year in Providence. While the live crowd was boisterous, thousands more watched from around the world. Many of those attended various BarCraft events, sharing in the fun with other fans. Here are some brief glimpses into some of those events, with pictures and descriptions. Whether it was the fan in Calgary who was really into the game, or the guy from Switzerland who saved his racial affiliation into his hair, everyone had a good time.

Ceili's Irish Pub and Restaurant - Southland location, 11AM - 9PM

We had about 220-250 people show up! <3

One of the best, most memorable, moments for me was when Ceili's brought out a bunch of really nice stuff to give away in our raffle, just because. They bought two really nice quality laptop bags and Stella glasses. I think my jaw actually dropped. They've been supportive the entire time but they went over the top.

At one point we were putting text overlays onto the screen to advertise for some of the people that were involved in making the barcraft happen and the guy that was doing them spelled a bunch of stuff wrong. I gave up part way through the night trying to get him to fix spelling errors. *facepalm*

As far as events go, we had The Node (nodegaming.com) bring some computers in for people to game on and Tristen 'BloodyIron' from LANified! (http://www.lanified.com/) ran a KotH on two of those computers. We also ran some trivia at various tables throughout the event, awarding all of the cool stuff Twitch.tv sent us.

In addition, the Node gave us a bunch of awesome stuff to give away for our raffle. Comic-Kazi (http://www.comickazi.com/) donated some beautiful Halo Reach figurines and set up a booth to sell their wares. We also had a couple on the spot donations to the raffle; Brian Robertson (http://msscripting.com/) made up his own version of the Boxer 'Emperor' posters and donated one of those to our pool, while the gentlemen at Nerds and Geekery also randomly showed up and gave us a t-shirt (http://www.nerdsandgeekery.com).

As for organizers, thank you Kiefer McCrae, Denton Davies, David Sharow, and Benjamin Odegaard, the other members of my team. And of course, Ken Cheung and everyone at Ceili's for making it 10X better than we could've managed.

Club 1234 - 11 AM to 9 PM

We had a littlle less than 1000 people! ***World Record***

What BarCraft Montreal 2 will be remembered for : The exhilerating crowd. The sickest production value in eSports with 7 screens, including a huge 8 meters wide 1080p screen with 2 additonnal HD projectors on the sides, making for a sick main hall, presented by Vuugo.com, that had over 400 people, maybe 500.
In addition, 2 additionnal rooms were opened this time, a normal room was available to people that wanted seats with 1 more HD projector. That room had space for around 150 people.

The third room was what made this BarCraft so special : The EG GrandMaster Lair. That room was basicly VIP. Around 150 lucky participants had confy chairs with 3 Huge TVs, got 1 tshirt, free pizza, some appetisers and a ton of EG shirts were given. All-in-all, that room was a small BarCraft in itself. Thanks EG! Techni-Productions did an awesome job setting up a total of 8 screens together.

CyberActiv.ca was on top of the streaming and ads running along the show. We had both streams going on, the alternative stream was in the blue room for a while, with ads from the partrners and sponsors during the blank spots. Hell, even EG TV spots were played during key moments.

As far as events goes, we had 2 awesome giveaways from partners. Thanks to Vuugo.com and Asus for giving a ton of gear including some sick video cards. Team EG's partners also pitched in. Kingston even gave DDR Memory kits, SSDs(one of which was actually given by MC Mario, Owner of the club, which actually confirmed that there would be a 3rd event!), Split Reason with a ton of t-shirts, InWin gave some SSD chassis and more. Twitch.tv gave out some Hot_Bid-style glasses, flasks and more!

And of course, the most sickest nerd eSports fan moment is when BarCraft Montreal got featured on the MLG stream. Man the crowd went INSANE. I was holding the camera while people were shouting at me and throwing light sticks. My heart was pounding. it was INSANE!

On top of things, i'd have to say that my favorite thing was the eSports fanatism. My heart was beating so fast when, at the start of each game, people would shout so hard for their favorite players. It was a blast. At the finals i felt like the ground was shaking at the dj booth when I popped the confetis, people were shouting so hard. Sickest nerd chills!

To conclude, I would obviously like to thank a few people and companies :
-Marko and the club1234 for making all of this possible. You are AWESOME.
-CyberActiv(.ca ) Productions Inc for the production and social coverage, Techni-productions for the screens and sound setup and CIPC for the high-performance Streaming PCs. As well Michael Cohen for connecting us with the universities and doing public relations.
-SC2QC.com and MLG for the awesome community support #FORESPORTS!
-Vuugo.com for making this sick production level possible, you guys are AWESOME(Go buy their stuff guys, GO GO GO #FORESPORTS)
-Team EG for pimping up the Team EG Grandmaster Lair, which was full of win.
-Epic sponsors : Linde Canada, Twitch.TV, IN WIN, Split Reason and Kingston

-Charles from Cyberactiv.ca signing out!

During the finals and final game on Xel Naga, the stream started stuttering even though it had pretty much been amazing the entire rest of the day. Bit of a facepalm moment. (Tunred out ok)
Also for me, I started walking to the bathroom as I was checking the bracket on my phone, got halfway through the door then walked back out and announced Haypro had just beaten Nestea. That was a pretty insane moment for me.

Utrecht, Netherlands
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Barcraft NL II took place in the "Winkel van Sinkel" in Utrecht, Netherlands. We opened the doors at five thirty and the last match played out around 3AM, we booted everyone out right after (politely though).

With a turnout between 150 and 200 people we had a nice and crowded room (But not stuffed like last time, so we could actually breathe)

We had several Starcraft drinnks and we put in effort to make the Idra GG seem like such a big deal when it was just water poured from a vodka bottle. Several people got fooled and I couldn't help but laugh when they tried to fool their friends in turn!

The Barcraft itself was sponsored by DUH-Events who took care of eleven HD screens and a projector, and were there from around 12:30 in the afternoon easily untill 4 at night to make sure everything worked. They had a mousepad giveaway through their website and the six lucky winners could retrieve them at the Barcraft.

So a thank you for everyone that came by, DUH-Events for allowing us this oppertunity, the Winkel van Sinkel for having an awesome venue, and MrBitter for doing a shoutout to us at the most unexpected moment!
You'll hear from us again,

- Location, timeframe
The venue was a pub called "The Scotsman", great place wiht 4 floors, out of wich we had two of em.

- Turnout
Turned out really great, we had about 300-400 people, im not sure tbh, and everyone were quite happy. Sure, we had some tech issues, and the stream quality was shit. We also had little space during the first hours, but then we opened another floor and it got better. But in general people were very excited, and cant wait for the next event!

- Memorable / funny / facepalm moments
Coming there to set things up before the doors opened and already seeing a line, that was nice!

Going out for a cigarrette two hours later, and seeing an even bigger line, epic!

Facepalm must have been when the MLG stream reset right at the end of the last game between DRG and Leenock, but then it jumped right to the casters excactly when they announced Leenock won, and the roof got blown by the audiences response

- Quick summary of events / giveaways / sponsors
Not much extra happening for us this first time, but we have plenty of plans for future events!!

- Shoutouts to organizers and volunteers.

We were only 4 people organizing this, so I would send a big thanks to our little group, but mostly to all the great people that showed up!! I would like to emphazise that we have pretty strong plans for improving sound quality, stream quality and sitting space for the next event. I would be very thankful if you added this information in the article. We passed around papers where people could write feedback and give grades, and the amount of feedback we got was enormous, so we know a lot of areas to improve until next time http://twitter.com/#!/BarcraftOslo

Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark

We had two BarCrafts in Denmark, one in Copenhagen (7pm - 3 am at Cafe AE) that had a turnout of more than 300 which created an authentic MLG experience, because there weren't enough chairs. People got quite excited when a picture from the event showed up in the MLG stream. No special events or sponsors, just a whole lotta StarCraft

The other BarCraft was in Aarhus (4 pm - 3 am at Waxies) it had a turnout of about 150 people. Even though we had more seats than last time, we also had issues with seating everyone. Everyones spirits were high though and many people stuck with MLG until after the finals, even though it ended at 3 am a Monday morning. We also had a competition where people could vote for the winner, but the vote of the only guy who had voted for Leenock had been lost. Luckily a lot of people could vouch for that he had been talking about nothing but Leenock the whole evening, so he still received at small prize.

All BarCrafts in Denmark are arranged and promoted by StarCraft Lounge Denmark (http://www.facebook.com/StarcraftLoungeDK) please support this organization, as we are actively working on setting up BarCrafts in more and more cities.
I would like to thank Waxies and Cafe AE for their support of BarCraft in Denmark.

I really have to apologize to a few people. I received a lot more summaries last night just when I was finishing the opening post, and I don't have time today to redo the map. So I am just going to post their summaries here. Sorry, and thanks for the information, next time I will time it better.

Krakow, Poland
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Location:'Albo Tak' Pub @ Krakow, Poland. MLG Providence final day in its entirety.

Turnout: 200

Memorable moments:

-Zuri beating Mill.Tarson in a fungame/showmatch. Zuri was picked in a lottery as a community member to have a go at a game with a pro. Ironically he turned out to be as skillful master player. The crowd laughed hard when, after the first few engagements, tarson typed 'hey! you know how to play!!' :D

-One big drawback was that there were way more people than we expected. With the venue packed tightly, a few of our guests couldn't see the stream. When MLG showed pictures from other BarCrafts only one of them was near our size. Some of our guests approached me during the event saying that we need a bigger venue next time and that from their calculations we were the most numerous BarCraft crowd.

Summary:

-events included:
Interview and Q&A with Millenium Tarson.
Interviews with community members and SC2 related site owners.
I hosted myself.
A mini-tourney 'midnight king' played for fun (spots: #1: notmyday; #2: Zuri; #3: Rexxar) by community members
Discount coupons for beer and snacks. The owners of the coupons (sold at the bar during the event) took part in a lottery. The owner of the lucky coupon got to play a Bo3 showmatch with Tarson. We called this event 'Beer for Jim Raynor'
,
-Our sponsors/partners (noone really gave us anything, we mostly covered the expenses from our own pocket) were: BarCraft.pl (our website), 'Albo Tak' Pub, Hornet (ISP), Bit Computers (http://www.bitcomputer.pl/ they provided us with gaming computers for the duration of the event).

Photos:

Shoutouts:

A big shoutout to Cezary Haller and Marcin 'Yuen' Konstantynowicz with whom we brought this event to life. Also special thanks to Tarson who expected nothing but good fun from us and was so kind and so open about this event. We also want to thank PrivateTH.pl, Mr Janusz @ Bit Computers, Barosz Malcharek @ 'Albo Tak' Pub. And last but not least a huge huge <3 to our wonderful guests who showed a lot of positive energy and who came in such great numbers.

Kind Regards,

MASH sports bar, Tel-Aviv, Israel.
From 8pm (local time) to 4am (local time) (Leenock finally defeated Naniwa and everyone went home happy.) The bar had 1 Huge 100 inch screen, 3 large indoors screens, 3 large screens near the Bar and 2 extra screens facing outwards so people walking by the pub can catch a bit of the action.

At peak time I think we passed the 120 people, it's really really hard to tell. We had a lot of key community members. In addition some football watchers that decided for one night to embrace their nerdiness.

- The bar manager said he should have gone home himself a long time ago but he can't because he really wants to see who ends up winning. And even though he never played SC2, by the end of the night he was cheering at the right moments.
- A few football fans were watching their game as the sight of the green grass and running players was replaced by the charming faces of Mr.Bitter and Husky.
- Leenock just beat Naniwa and it was already about 3:20 am, people were starting to cheer for Leenock just so the series would end already.
- MVP vs Leenock on xel'naga started and it looked grim for Leenock connection is then lost to the MLG stream and by the time we get it back Leenock is crushing MVP.
- Seeing a photo from our Barcraft on the MLG stream made everyone cheer. That was brilliant.

People came, saw some intergalactic battle, drank some beers and met awesome people who they've known for a while but never know they played Starcraft. And a sense of community that never existed here in Israel. During the amazing ZvZ between DRG and Leenock we had some unfortunate lag in exciting moments for a few seconds each. It just made the game that much more exciting.

- Turnout
More than 60 people attended. not enough seats, but it was alright and a great event!

- Memorable / funny / facepalm moments
Memorable moment: when the drunken guy took off his EG Fan Shirt to give it 1 of the 2 Girls that were there.

- Quick summary of events / giveaways / sponsors
Started organizing on 07.11.2011 because everybody wanted a BarCraft Hamburg but nothing was there yet. So i said to myself "Day9 said i have to just fucking do it" - and so i did: found a Bar on 10.11.2011. Met with the Bar Owner on 11.11.11. Started advertising the event short after that.

No other Sponsors beside the bar itself. They were very nice and open minded to the idea.

I showed them the StarCraft cocktails and they agreed to sell 3 of them. That was a really cool idea and worked out very well.

- Shoutouts to organizers and volunteers.
Thx to the Bar, makrele, for the Support. Thx to Malte who helped me with an logo for the FB event!

There will be a next BarCraft in Hamburg, with more screens, more seats, better beamer and a lot more people because of earlier advertisement and more time to prepare

See you next year for the next BarCraft Hamburg! Like FB - https://www.facebook.com/barcraft.hamburg

- the party was @ Professor's Mug - Vancouver, BC. from 2-6pm on Championship Sunday.

- We got around 250 + people in the bar.

- So many things happened that afternoon so I'm not sure if I am doing everyone justice by saying this, but there were people playing Go, drunk Starcraft fans who got booted, Nachos, and raffle winners.

- We sold our admission tickets for $10 which comes with a burger, fries and a pint of beer (SWAG). We also ran a raffle for a Death Adder mouse, Corsair HS1 Gaming headset, and a Black Widow keyboard. The event is sponsored by the generous people at Memory Express, so we would like to thank them as well.

- The event was organized under a cooperation between 3 schools in lower mainland Vancouver. UBC, SFU, and BCIT. I would to thank all the people from the aforementioned schools who put hard work into materializing this party. I'd like to thank Memory Express for all the prizes. We also would like to thank BCIT for letting us use the venue. Lastly a big shout out to the Vancouver Starcraft community for always being super awesome.

Here is the link to some of the photos from the event. http://imgur.com/a/QJbC6

Louisville, Kentucky

What: Louisville BarCraft for MLG Grand Finals and IPL 4 UK Qualifier Tournament
Where/When: Sunday, Noon-9pm at the Hall of Fame Cafe in Louisville, Ky.

Turnout: Although we expected it to be small, it was quite a surprising and pleasant turn-out. We had probably between 30-35 people trickle in and out throughout the day and probably near 30 at one point toward the end of the night.

Moments: I'd imagine we all reacted the way the rest of the country did when Idra, seemingly, prematurely GG'd against Leenock.

Summary: The Hall of Fame Cafe was kind enough to give us several "free appetizer" cards to use as prizes during the BarCraft. I organized an MLG bracket-competition in which we each filled out a bracket predicting the turnout. Best brackets won the free appetizers. We had three TVs streaming at once -- usually the two 60" TVs streaming the red and blue streams from MLG and a smaller, 32" TV streaming the finals of the IPL4 Qualifier...

Shoutouts: Definitely would like to shout out to the people at Hall of Fame Cafe for being so accommodating and allowing Louisville to host its very FIRST BarCraft event!! Also shout out to DJ Wheat for re-tweeting BarCraft Louisville photos TWICE throughout the day! Props to MLG for displaying some BarCraft Louisville photos and shouting out to us as well. Congratulations to Leenock for winning the MLG Grand Finals and a huge well-done to NaNiWa for living up to his potential and proving himself to be one of the world's best. Finally finally big shout out to the Louisville StarCraft community for making this happen.

Buffalo, New York
+ Show Spoiler +

The first Barcraft in the Upstate/Western NY area took place at The Sidebar, a place that I hadn't heard of before despite having spent three years at the University at Buffalo. The event was announced about a week and a half ahead of time and got a decent following on Facebook. On that fateful Championship Sunday, people started rolling in at 4PM and stayed all the way through the finals.

---------

I was really surprised at the love that the event got. When I arrived with a friend at 4:15, there were already about 20 people in the bar. There had to have been at least 60 or 70 people in the bar during the "prime" hours between 6 and the finals.

---------

The building is split between two equal sized rooms. On one side there was a large projector setup on the wall, and on the other side there were a few good flat screens hooked up. The projector room was buzzing and packed - the early birds on the couches and chairs, the latecomers sitting on the floor - but my friend and I opted to take prime seats directly at the bar, right in front of a ~27" screen.

Everyone received one raffle ticket upon paying at the door, but there were raffles going on throughout the night. One prize was a set of 4 SC2 shirts (one for each race option, I believe). Another prize was a Razer Naga mouse, and the last one was a pre-order of Heart of the Swarm. The coolest part about the raffle was that the person in charge of it couldn't have been older than 13 or 14, and he was rocking a Zerg shirt.

Drinks were flowing all night - unlimited Labatt Blue Light (the staple "unoffensive tasting getmedrunk" beer of Western New York) and Pabst Blue Ribbon (the staple... I don't know), and unlimited well drinks for the mixed liquor crowd. Did I mention it was 20 dollars total? There were at least two bartenders, including a very awesome girl named Sandra who was clearly lost regarding SC, but took interest and tried to learn about the game. By the end of the night she was cheering for Leenock!

Between games, DJ AsiD was dropping tunes - generally dubstep - to help keep the atmosphere alive and flowing.

The ONLY hitch in the entire event was that it was advertised as "all you can drink and eat (pizza/wings) for $20" but they underestimated the amount of pizza required. They had 10 sheets and 200 wings delivered at 5PM and 10 more sheets at 7:30PM, but in both cases the food was gone within minutes. To their credit, the organizers and the bar have apologized and are trying to figure out a feasible monetary solution for the next BarCraft. The attitude I got from the employees and organizers was that it was a success and they want to do it again! One person also said that they were considering setting up a second projector screen in the other room, which would be kickass!

As a person who drove out from Rochester to go with friends, I was really happy with how the event turned out. Lots of cool people, lots of SC, lots of drinks, and an entertaining setting. Sidebar and the organizers, you guys did a great job and I can't wait to see how awesome the next one is.

- Memorable Moments
Playing hilarious/awesome Starcraft YouTubes in-between games like the Nerd Alert songs, SC2 montages, Tastosis highlights, and the "Poor Idra" youtube where Artosis denies Idra a high-five.

- Quick summary of events / giveaways / sponsors
We had the whole basement, dedicated bar, balloons, 8 total LCD's showing the stream (4 Big LCD's behind the bar, and 4 more smaller LCD's further away from the bar)

This is amazing.
Barcraft is exploding fast.
The future looks sick.
A build is not a guess, an estimation or a hunch, a feeling, or a foolish intuition. A build is a dependable, unwavering, unarguably accurate, portrayer of your ambition.
