you might get the impression because after a few page people realize that their concerns have been written down several times and it makes no sense to do it again. how often can you state the same fact. truth is there is always a vocal minority posting the most insane stuff you can imagine. read through those threads again and you will see that the people who are trashing or defending really hard are not a large group, but a small one posting over and over again. i also have read all those threads because i do that with all the featured ones, and i have to tell you that you are wrong. she does not have to climb the mount everest or the k2 to succeed. she just needs a solid performance. maybe some will trash her anyways, but as long as there is no major outcry again, gom can keep her and ppl will get used to her. if she fails though there will be an outcry and gom will have to react.

I can understand her, you cant .... you are stupid etc. (White Knights) Decent summary, and there were a few of those inane 'she's cute' statements. However, can it be so hard to think people like myself, Teddyman, Dox and a few others aren't actually supporters, but are simply unwilling to bash her before she's had a chance to succeed or fail as a GSL commentator with Artosis and Tasteless? I've never heard of her before and have no reason to be a supporter. I've listened to some of the videos- some are harder to understand than others. I also know TL has a tendency to blow up over things that turn out not to be so bad. It's not so much that we're fans- we just don't think pre-season is the time to throw the caster underneath the bus. Mid or Post-season would be that time- at least for me. On a side note, understandability is a serious problem. A dislike for this voice or that voice is entirely subjective. TL likes to scrap over their favourite caster- Klazart's voice was annoying, Husky's voice is annoying. Heck, I've even heard people (fans of some other casters) say Day9's voice is annoying. That particular argument I don't weight very heavily- but heavy/ hard to understand accent I would.
well you are right. after a some time people started to realize that this was not a rumour anymore but the truth. so people started to say give her a chance. i am not talking about those people who did not listen to even one cast, but about those who did listen to it and still were positive. BUT at the beginning of those threads this was not the case. people did not know if she was confirmed or not and they did not know why she was chosen. we still dont know who actually applied and why she was chosen. so at this point of the discussion your point is absolutely valid. we should give her a chance, because what else are we going to do? mute her before she even starts? no thats stupid. before thought the discussion was mainly focused on why she was chosen over others who dont have the problem of beeing understood by a lot of the users. and if you look at it from that point of view, giving her a chance when there might have been a better choice is not logical.
you can give someone a chance because you are a nice person. for other people this is their entertainment. they might pay for gsl or spend their time at ungodly hours to watch it. they dont want to put up with that and its understandable. so giving her a chance will happen, but waiting for her to improve before the shitstorm hits the battery of fans ... thats not likely :-p

If all you're saying is you've read the featured threads then there have been plenty of threads you have missed especially seeing as how a lot of them haven't even been recently or necessarily on this site about this game. I have never seen a thread involving her that had more people (not more posts but more people so it's not just a couple people spamming how bad she is) supporting her than people saying that she was impossible to understand, that she doesn't talk about relevant things in the game, that she randomly stops talking at points. And what you don't seem to be understanding is that if she doesn't have a good performance then the people "who are hating on her" will have another major outcry over her performance, which is why I say that she needs a good performance not a mediocre one. And yes it may be as large of a thread as it is from people posting multiple times about her but that doesn't change the fact that from all these threads the majority of people not just posts has been against her as well and a retarded amount of the posts that have been for her have been along the lines of "but she's pretty".

Same response... different game...........................
It's funny how most of the KellyMilkies Defense Force are, rather than saying "Give her a chance", saying "She's cute/hot - I want her to cast because of that".
A hour until the GSL. I'm excited for the games. If the casting is too overwhelming I'll just make pretend casts in my head.

I for one regard Singlish with the zenith level of disgust. It's on the same level as making love to sheep on a national level and supporting sheep-love just because everyone in the country is doing the same thing.
It's not some misplaced form nationalism, if you think that's what it is. Singlish, when put through an academic interpretation, could considered post-colonialist, even anti-colonialist. It's not the same as making love to sheep on a national level and purporting it just because everyone does it. And obviously you don't do it, so I guess that would not preclude everyone. I can only guess that you haven't gone to the army.
As I've said earlier and I'll reiterate again, I've personally met Kelly at my former workplace, Colosseum that LAN center at Iluma and various other gaming events where Colosseum was the main supporting entity, and I cannot emphasize enough just how unqualified she is. The customers and gamers on venue couldn't help but to shake their heads and it was a constant cringefest. She may be a decent Dota and SC2 player but playing is much different from being capable of analyzing other players' playstyles, and her knowledge was something that was truly lacking. Also, much of the casts I've heard were constantly punctuated with "Er" and amateurish mistakes.
Not arguing with you on this one. Everyone doesn't have to be hopeful.
If I had to choose someone from Singapore who would disrupt their daily school life to cast such an event, it's Philibert "Deathadder" Santhanaraj from Gamestah. I cannot recommend him enough for his professionalism and the speed which he picks up concepts from games he's never played before. It's too bad that he's a Street Fighter 4 specialist though.
Pity. Tbh, imo, I haven't heard a great commentator from SG yet. How do I put it: Kelly does appeal to her target audience - gamers who speak singlish. However, when she's taken out of that context, she becomes... not so good. In any case, it is GOMTV that should be criticised for the decision, rather than the caster who applied. She is, after all, just trying to advance her career.

Funny thing is, the DotA community is brutal as shit, so negative comments there wouldn't be unexpected. On the other hand, the community here on TL is so overwhelmingly positive, I was honestly surprised to see that anybody else was as disappointed with this decision as I am. I expected 100 pages of "Go Kelly! We love you!". You know you really messed up when you get TLers upset about a progressive move in eSports.

Putting the big "HATERS WILL HATE" seal on every criticism is not a professional way to do it and I hope GOM will see that OR Kelly grows a spine and acknowledges her inadequacy and either improves or quits.

It's true. Usually I hear on TL: "You go! Whoever you are! Just GO! Yay!" Like on the Linda forums. You know you're in trouble when overly optimistic people (I'm one of them) leave "Er... I hope she improves" comments, and positive people just crying for god or some alien race to save them.

What's progressive about hiring historically (as in over the course of her casting history) bad casters with bad attitude and bad knowledge of the game?
That quote from the gg.net forum... ouch. Sure, you won't ever please everybody nor will you silence "haters" just like that. But that she didn't care about criticism even then shows how bad it was then, how little she cared even then and that it is not a one time, isolated incident. Maybe that 100 page thread we had, combined with the prestige of GSL serves as enough of a wake-up call for her, but there are justified doubts.
About half an hour till the event goes live. I'll tune in to a restream. Pizza is on its way.
GOM deserves better than that, unless they made this decision knowingly. On the other hand it's too costly a mistake to have it follow from ignorance. Improving the qualities of a subpar caster on the backs of your audience seems rather arrogant.

Totally agree. But that's a work ethic issue that we can't actually control. But the business model of GOM is something that viewers can control because it's capitalistic and we are paying consumers. Just saying.

8SAB Signals company, Company Best Shot for two years running. I refused to speak Singlish and people gave me shit for being "elitist" because I wanted to speak proper English. Coming from ACS and the landed property address on my 11B didn't help much either. God forbid that I be considered a "true Singaporean" just because I choose not to rape the English language with the ferocity of a vibrating pineapple powered by a V8 engine into the anus of a goat.

Then you probably haven't been around much in the gaming scene. There are competent Singaporean commentators, but they're rare and aren't the attention-seeking sort like Kelly.

*shrugs* Signals has a lot of Indian enciks, and a whole lot of them are very well-spoken. Your point? I don't believe in maiming the English language. Maybe you enjoy it but I certainly do not.
