@qxc0000, 7 hrs ago: Sent an application in to gomtv for the Code A Foreigner House for this summer. The cogs are turning.
Kevin "qxc" Riley, the American Terran from Root Gaming who placed second at the IEM American Championships in New York among other notable results, has written an application for the GSL foreigner house in Seoul, Korea.
Several hours ago on Twitter, QXC wrote that he had submitted the application and that 'the cogs are turning'. Although Riley is temporarily living in Spain, it seems that the American's plan is to play StarCraft full-time in Korea once his education at Harvey Mudd is complete. At the very least, he is attempting to expand his horizons this upcoming summer. I am currently reaching out to qxc for comment and clarification on his intent.
qxc will not be able to compete in the upcoming season and it is unclear when exactly he hopes to participate in the GSL.
This was posted already in the qxc fan club but very few people noticed it and honestly, this deserves a bit more recognition. Yeah yeah, it's another Terran but get over it! It'd be awesome if qxc showed up in Korea. Just like with Sjow, I have absolutely no idea how his play will translate to results in Korea but right now I'm just excited to see the foreigner house start to shape up and fill up..
So, is he sponsored there by Root or going on his own?
Once his education is done and he can practice in Korea I imagine his skill will skyrocket. (if he goes)
What of the other ROOT members? I'm surprised! Good luck QXC!
I think he would do well, his style of Terran is quite different then most Korean Terrans. It's not just one big timing attack and another, it's non stop aggression.
I hope he gets accepted and gl QXC!!!

Harvey mudd...same college as Day9?

Agreed, he's like a tide of aggression. Two-pronged attacks are nothing for him to pull off.

All while scanning the island. Impressive.

I think this MIGHT be blowing it out of proportion a little bit.
To me it seems like he's just keeping his options open for the summertime since he will have time to play, but summer also means a lot of NA/EU tournaments that he'll have the option to play in. Lets say he joins the GOM house in June and gets an invite into code A, he wouldn't even be code S until mid August, assuming he does well in code A and moves up.
I think he'd be great for Korea, but this application seems to be more keeping an eye out for the future, but I think going to Korea will be less and less enticing and prestigious compared to what it was like to see Ret and Idra going to korea for BW, or seeing TL move in early on in SC2.

I think that's fair!
I amended the article (and responded to you on Twitter :D). I haven't gotten clarification from qxc about it so it's very possible that he's just expanding his horizons, giving himself some more options.
Such a baller, hope he gets accepted, and once he gets there, his skill will skyrocket indeed.
if GOM doesn't accept this guy, the community will be really pissed off...
Qxc is literally one of the few Terrans I actually enjoy watching (and feel have actual skill). His style is a joy to watch. Good luck sir -- Code S in no time.
oh this is hot. i actually think qxc can make code S. look how badass huk got when he went to korea.

I bet he saw who is actually living in the foreigner house and knows he can get in fo sho

i believe the consensus is that huk is currently an absolute badass. we'll see this season of course but considering his ladder shape and what informed parties have been saying, i dont disbelieve it

Pillow = badass, don't even deny it
qxc in GSL would be amazing, best of luck Hippie Terran, Drop em' like it's hot!
qxc is by far my favorite Terran. Would be awesome if he got accepted!
The GSL house is a perfect match for someone like QXC who is seemingly quite dominant on the US ladder.
well he did 2:0 the best terran in the world back in day9's beta tourny and idra respects him so thats gotta count for something :p
QXC's the reason why so many Terran's stopped giving up when they lost every single unit, every single scv, and had one banshee and a bunker with 2 marines left. I played against some dude on ladder, and he had every building left floating, and I'm like... DUUUUDE, GG Already. Because of QXC people learned that terran is still in the game if he's got a fast unit or two (hellion, banshee, etc...) and an orbital.
Great player.

I can't wait to see what you add to the article once you can talk to qxc
Please retweet the link to your article when you do

Can't wait to see qxc streaming from Korea if this goes down!
Sure hope he makes it. Would be great to see a ROOT guy like him over there
Guy gets into one of the top schools for his chosen field of study, then dedicates this much time to be a pro-gamer.
Go figure. GL anyway.
I second the respect for QXC. He prefers extremely solid thought out strategies over flavor of the month abuse even if it has a chance to set him back.
This is awesome. Really liked QXC's play. And I think his skill will increase a lot by going to Korea
This makes me quite happy, hopefully this will be a step towards improving the skill level and prestige of the GOM house.
QXC is pretty much the skillcap in the NA server, so it's scary to imagine how much he'll improve when he goes to Korea. Look at how good Jinro got!
Awesome news, props to you man for having "3" to go Korea and start with Qualification/Code A. Even if it does not seem profitable from the $ point of view, in the long run you will profit from it one way or the another. I'd strongly suggest to pack some quality vitamins (c) as it seem that every single foreigner gets some-kind of flue in Korea. Good luck man, will be "Root"ing for you.
I don't know so much about his skill expanding because he's in Korea. That'll help, but it'll be even more awesome to see his skill expand because he has so much extra time to practice cos of not being in school.
QXC will do fine as long as he watches out for
1) Islands 2) Quick thirds 3) Hallucinated Nexus
qxc is one of the most entertaining players going around. I hope he does well
goodluck to him, hes unarguably a strong player
so he moved to Spain to apply from there to Korea?
I wish qxc the best of luck! He's my favorite Terran.
It's a bad idea. We will not be able to tell him about the hidden island expansion and he will eventually lose due to his opponents econimical advantage.
Omfg...I can't even imagine what it would be like if he moved to korea and practices 2x as much as he does now. No homework, no classes, no shenanigans
gogo dominate !
qxc's gonna tear it up if he goes to korea, i've been saying he's the guy with probably the most potential of the foreign scene atm for a long time.
hopefully he goes there soon and confirms on his great talent at this game, definitely a (if not the) player to look out for, regardless of recent western tournament results
good luck
I wish this guy the best of luck. Apparently he is a busy guy with his study and is still able to compete well in MLG tournaments etc despite this. Hopefully all that time in the house playing will see him go to a new level and make some waves over there.

yes he is, and so far he is the most deserving with Sjow(who also applied). He won IEM Asia vs Loner.

ugh... seriously??

qxc is a beast. Hope he makes it... definitely deserves it.

Really cool news, I am a fan of QXC (as much as I could be being a Zerg player). I do agree with the previous poster here describing his style as non-stop aggression - I like that, rather than just seeing the "huge timing attack" style. Entertaining to watch and it genuinely requires a lot of skill.
I had the chance of meeting qxc at malg raleigh. He is a good person and a hell of a starcraft player. His non-stop agrression and constant drops r real fun to watch. GLHF and the best of luck to u Kevin
I think he has solid play and at least RO16 code A worthy. GL QXC!
Best of luck to qxc i see no reason what so whever why he woudnt get a spot. 2 bad not all white guys are in the same team... pretty soon they would have enough to enter the GSTL
Maybe a stupid question, can you get into the foreigner house and not be an invitee (I'm thinking of Oak and Spades here)? Either way, him and Sjow would be pretty locked favourites for getting an actual invite if the application is the same thing.
really awesome news. qxc is one of my most favourite players to watch, his micro and constant aggression are already exceptionally amazing, and his mechanics will get to the same level when he gets to Korea. I certainly hope he gets accepted in, he's definitely one of the best possible candidates for the foreigner house.
I'm glad to hear that QXC has submitted an application for the foreigner house. Looking forward to see him play in the GSL.
Looking forward to see him playing. Not sure can he make it to Code S but at least to A. Btw qxc > SjoW
I will be so happy if he goes. He's definitely one of the top Americans. It'd be so great to see him and Sjow in GSL.
after watch TLO rape qxc like 5 times in a row i really dont think hes ready for korea....whats the point of going if your gonna get owned?

So either way, going to Korea is a great choice.
Best of luck qxc. I personally think he got what it takes. He is undoubtedly one of the best NA players at the moment and his unrelenting, aggressive drop-heavy style is a perfect fit for the KR server.

Korean terrans and Korean players in general are known for their aggression in game, so he will fit in perfectly.

I can see QXC in Code A. Not sure if he could get to Code S in one summer though. Either way I wish him well.

Really want to see how he does over there, one of the more interesting names to move over of late (aside from mr 'Glade). Hope it goes well.

lol, this isn't the first time he's had a showmatch against TLO (qxc beat TLO 4-1 last time?) He can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the world when he's able to practice more.
Ah thats great - he's a skilled player!
KFC FIGHTIIING!
It'll be very interesting to see who GOM chooses from the applicants. Especially if they give reasons why/not.
he is not ready for Code A
It would be fun to see how Koreans deal with CatZ in GSL.
qxc fighting! avenge your loss to us in CSL by stomping some korean nerds for us
Code A player yes. Code S player, needs improvement. Gonna take him at least a few seasons before making the jump.
You really really can't just say "oh he lost pretty heavy in a showmatch against a really solid player, omg hes not going to make it".
I think he could do ok in code A. I'll be rooting for him seeing how he is a foreigner
I think QXC has a ton of potential, he is pretty amazing already and is still probably spending a lot of time on school right now. His micro and multi tasking are just nasty. He is definitely one of my favorite Terran players along with Jinro and TLO (when he rolls T).
On February 11 2011 00:29 JroDBraSiL wrote: after watch TLO rape qxc like 5 times in a row i really dont think hes ready for korea....whats the point of going if your gonna get owned?
when tlo was in korea he did pretty well for himself so its kind of hard to just write qxc off as inferior in korea when he lost to someone who could probably compete in korea as well

Quick background info which is needed: I have been in esports since I was 12 (10 years) I played quake and counterstrike.. I hadn't been playing any games because of college so when starcraft 2 cameout I jumped all over it.
I was rising up quick just making it to plat, I had been playing since the beta. RTS was a huge concept to wrap my head around, I had never played any before... anyhow I go to school in NC right near Raleigh, so I attended MLG. I was sitting watching matches when he approached me and was talking to me about results, until I started discussing his matches with him I realized the opponents names he was listing were matched with qxc's results... He sat there and had a 15 minute convo with me and 3 of my friends I met about sc2 and how excited he was about it, his bo's in the match, and what his intentions were. Thats when the starcraft community stole my heart wasn't stuck up at all , very cool guy.
He seems like the definition of professionalism and i'm sure he would rapidly excel if put in the Korean scene, this so freakin awesome and good for another NA team to have a rep overseas. This is absolute illlness, case closed done thank you for your time I love you all
gogo! more top foreigners to korea please
Havent seem qxc play for a while, but if you ask who is the best terran in NA. I would said qxc. I felt he can take game off Top no problem. His famous multi drop work well in current state of the game.

Havent seen qxc in a while now! Im excited for him to go to korea. I love his harassment play and I think it could do well in korea after learning some new things.
Hopefully he goes!
He has so much raw talent for the game and I've never seen him get pissed over a loss. Those two factors IMO will make him a truly great player once he starts getting good practice.
I think people dont understand that going over there and laddering for 3 weeks can drastically tune a player
Ah very nice, I hope he makes it in, it seems like their are some top tier players applying tho.
Good for him! qxc is amazing and could definitely do well in korea.
It would be sick if he would play GSL... I am crossing my arms leg just everything for him:D
I really hope that he gets in! I'd love to see Qxc play some Koreans!
As a fellow software guy, best of luck to him.
people criticizing this guy's play seem to be forgetting that he's actually studying full time, and coaching while playing sc2, and currently he's in another country.
let him focus on nothing but the game and getting better at it in korea, then we'll see how he rolls. frankly, i don't think he showed even 2/3 of what he could possibly do with full time practice with good partners even at the height of his game before now.
but we'll see how he handles korea if he gets there, after all the conditions these guys practice in and the partners they have available is what makes or breaks them on that scene (not everybody has the chance to practice with ogs in a big house). that assuming they're able to handle the practice requirements and social sacrifices without hurting themselves like tlo did
I remember one dark and stormy night on QXC's stream. The map was scrap station and as QXC went to deliver the killing blow on a meek Protoss, he pressed shift-c and licked the shit out of that lonely unoccupied island.
It was the greatest moment of my life.
Good luck in Korea man He should get in no problem hopefully. QXC is such a baller. If you wanna see more of him, you can check out the original (?) day9 friendsday wednesday.
For those who ask about his studies in Spain: he'll finish the semester in May
If he goes he's going to experience pretty much what Huk or Jinro have, which is great improvement.
This is exciting news. Apparently I went to school with this guy for a year and didn't even realize it. (I'm right between him and Day9; I went to Pomona, but had some computer science classes at Harvey Mudd. SC2 hadn't come out yet though.) My friend who's still at the school says he's a nice guy IRL, apparently plays Ultimate Frisbee too.
Anyway, I'm sure that he's seeing the summer as an opportunity to see how far his SC2 can go, while he doesn't have school to worry about, while also getting to live in a foreign country without spending tons of money. Sounds like a great plan, and I hope he does well in GSL. I'd love to see more foreigners proving themselves there.
Yes! Qxc is definitely one of my favourite terrans. Good luck!

For sake of argument let's say you got into Stanford or the prestigious university of your choice. OK you got into the one of the top 3 of all time.
That doesn't mean that you're in school 12 months a year. There will be downtime - and what would you be doing during that downtime?
Attending the GSL in the hopes of winning a nice prize? Sounds good to me.

This is gonna be sad and awesome at the same time I think living in the GOMtv house means there will be no streams and no demands for scanning the island. However, this is gonna be awesome as we'll get to see QXC dedicating more time to the game and going full time serious about SC2.

The current people who are there, as seen in Artosis interview videos from the GSL A qualifiers and Torch's vid.

Don't think he'll qualify, tbh. But I feel he's much better than the people currently taking up space in that house... hopefully I'm wrong about the qualifying part.

At the very least I'm sure he'll evolve into Boss Terran status and dominate everyone back in North America, a la Jinro story.

QXC scan the GSL house !!!

qxc is beast he will give good results in korea if he puts effort
good luck QXC
One of the best foreigners for sure... hope he goes
I am with some of my preposters and hope that this was the right decision for qxc.
I am worrying in the last weeks, that people who would be among the top4 in a foreignercup (no need for names, you know the kind of pro I am talking about, the one you'd post a bet on) only make code A in Korea.
This would mean for those pros, that they are actually losing money, because they are unable to participate in foreigner cups, where they'd be in the money.
For qxc: your the man, you can make it there, you can also use the time there to bring your game-skill to the next level. I believe in you and think you are among the best Ts in the foreigner scene, and probably the best in NA.
Go Big and Go Hard!
im probs gonna repeat wot everyone has said, but qxc is such a great tactician with his builds and he is gonna pwn those korean pros and could defo go to top. XD

One of my favorite terrans , hope he does well. sadly, i'm a bit disapointed of his performance at the assembly winter.

Yeah, losing to Huk, such a disappontment. Had he not encountered Huk, he could have taken Ret, Morrow, Die Star, TLO, Adelscott...He was top 8 of that tourney.

I can't wait to see people put up posters saying 'QXC SCAN THE ISLAND BRO, I SAW SOMETHING!'

Thank you for shitting on our collective BW dreams sir.

Wha.. What? He's playing sc2, not BW. Is qxc still super drop centric? I havn't seen any games of him for a little while, so I'm kinda wondering. Love his style back in the day either way when he'd just like drop in the back of the opponents base all game long ^^

Does anyone else think he looks like the medic from TF2?
QXC said on his stream today that he definitely has a spot in the foreigner house if he ends up going.
not sure but i've heard a couple things. is he going at beginning of summer or end. i'm rooting for the guy.

I hope QXC's recent discouragement won't keep him from going to the foreigner house, this would rock so much.
I'd say it's even more obvious that he should go. Unless you place really high in Code S it is hardly about the money now, but he probably wants to get back in shape on the Korean ladder during the spring. I hope he will have time to keep in shape after that and it should be a great experience for him!
EDIT: Oh and what he probably lacks is the team discussion, so in the house he will play a lot of custom games.... Recently I've been thinking it looks a little bit too robot-like, there is no space for a living room (discussion) and so on, but I guess they don't have a tight schedule, so it should be fine.
