This is going to be a lifelong worry for Violet, and depending on the type of acute leukemia, and where the malignant white blood cells exist (i.e. the central nervous system) the prognosis can be quite poor. He's looking at a lot of chemotherapy, anti-remission drugs that have all sorts of side effects, and possibly a bone marrow or hematopoietic (relating to the formation of blood cells) stem cell transplant. To see exactly what's happening, here's some pictures: Here's a normal looking blood stain with a noncancerous lymphocyte in the dead center: This is what Violet's blood stain may look like: The problem is that the amount of cancerous lymphocytes present in the blood interfere with the normal processes of noncancerous white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Normally lymphocytes account for somewhere around 30% of all white blood cell types. In the last picture, there is one neutrophil in the bottom right (and maybe one near the center, but it might be a much less common eosinophil), which are the most common WBCs, around 60%. In other words, having way more lymphocytes than neutrophils is obviously a very bad thing. I've already dealt with my best friend having leukemia, and I can tell you it's an ongoing struggle. Hopefully hopefully hopefully, everything will be all right for one of my very favorite protosses, and a genuinely nice person.

He was in a pretty good groove recently too, and brings so much energy and charisma to KT. Hopefully his family and teammates stay strong too.
