3 consecutive WCG championships? Starcraft WC3 and..?

wow so much of it is sad stuff. I dont really think estro disbanding is so huge though.

boxer switching to sc2 rated higher than sc2 being released... interesting
wow, i've actually forgotten about the match fixing scandal already. i personally think KT rolster winning the SPL championship is the bigger deal along with flash's epic dominance for most of this year. stuff about starcraft 2 are just plain annoying. also, goodbye estro.

Where's the hite-CJ merger? That was nearly as big as eSTRO's disbanding.

most medals in a wcg makes that nation a champ. SK 3 years running

Must Action always look so funny in his pictures?

I thought this wasnt as big news, due to the fact that CJ had bought OGN either last year, or early this year. Due to this fact, I think the merge was pretty much predictable, if not CJ just taking Hite's best players.

WCG is the Olympics of eSports. On top of individual medals per competition, there is a total medal tally for each nation. At the end of each WCG the nation with the most medals is crowned the champion of WCG.

Flash should be #1.

Fomos pushed the SC2 news to the bottom o_O

lol good to see foams staying true to their roots
match fixing was definitely biggest news of the year, and IP rights 2nd--both will heavily impact the future of pro BW.
slayers boxer return to the scene with sc2 is the biggest news ever, it started a trend that will continue untill bw pro scene will completely vanish, still a couple of years probably
Sucks seeing sad news on the list. But for the good news, or should I say best news, hell ya Flash FTW.

As a CJ fan, effort retiring was massive for me.

boxer should win the "best dressed nerd"-award
he always looks cool :D

effort and forgg were big stories sure, but nowhere near COACH CHO retiring. i've never been an entusman, but that was absolutely massive.
what about effort retiring? and forgg?
2010 has been a crazy year for esports in Korea. that's for sure.
hows about Korea finally winning gold in wc3 after 8 years of WCG. I saw OGN commentators crying so hard when ReMinD won wc3

Flash already said he'd be playing Brood War for another five years at least. So unless Blizzard has something to say about it pro Brood War isn't going away anytime soon.
Wow matchfixing scandal #1. That left a huge stain on esports indeed.
By the way I love this picture of Flash.
Any idea what effort and forgg are doing? Retiring at their prime smells like SC2, cause to moe over you have to "retire"..they could of course retire to go finish school/military but retiring so fast after winning an OSL.
As for the ranking it does make sense, stuff ranked higher is stuff that will impact eSports in the future, Boxer switching made people watch SC2 and possibly pave the way for future switch overs, the suits with Blizzard/MBC will show if BW will continue or not, and match fixing is just a huge event.
Yes, the match-fixing scandal was very damaging to eSports.
However, I think it also showed that eSports is a big business, subject to the same kind of greed and corruption seen in other industries.

effort is studying to apply for univ(I think he wrote this himself on his cyworld?)
forGG seems to have some sort of personal problem or crisis? since it was so sudden and he's retiring in the middle of the leagues which will probably cause legal problems, it's got to be something deeper than "quiting to study" or "quitting since I'm sick of BW."
Effort retiring was the biggest one for me ;;.

all these supposed entusmen not even mentioning coach cho is quite the shame
I think Effort retired to spend more time with his GF?
I've said this before but I think Coach Cho (CJ) was focusing too much on sniping and not enough on training solid, well-rounded players towards the end of his career.
That said, he was still much, much better than Kim Dong Woo.

That the match fixing scandal is top 1 is a good thing, such things must not be forgotten, in such a young scene as e-sports, such a thing could have ended it as a whole, hopefully it won't happen ever again.
I expected one to be the Boxer vs. Nada match rather than just Boxer switching over, but I guess it's still pretty similar.
okay so after researching topic_id=154362came up with this. It is hard to tell, if he left because he didn't like how his salary problems and went to switch over to SC2 (GSL prise pool is insane), or just switched to a new career altogether, there is always a hope he was amassing zerg and losing him from the eSports scene be it BW or SC2 is bad.
The retirements of fOrGG and EffOrt, and those coaches from CJ, MBC, Oz should've been included! :-/

The fomos list happened before ForGG's retirement was announced.

No effort and coach Cho retirement? SK winning wcg medal tally for 3 years in a row isn't really top news.

Yea, except it takes more than 1 player to run a competitive scene... And I think the actual trend is switching to SC2. I think (and also hope) that flash is coming to SC2 soon

I don't i hope he stays in BW for at least 5 more years , because his talent and capabilities won't be shown to the fullest on a less demanding game such as SC 2 .

While scrolling down made me sader and sader
The match fixing scandal felt so long ago to me that I forgot it was a 2010 event. It's been a long, eventful year.
a pretty decent summary of 2010 minus the people leaving the bw scene
how can Starcraft 2’s first official league, GSL be ahead of SC2? o_0
Anyway, nice list
1. should have been bonjwa Flash. His dominance will never ever be repeated again.
And Effort + Coach Cho should have been there.

Yeah, it does seem like that happened such a long time ago. So much has been packed into this year. I hope just as much happens in 2011 but with a more positive impact.

I'd like Flash to play BW full time while winning SC2 Zotac cups on the side when he's bored.
eSTRO has disbanded ? I so totally lost track of the BW scene after the SC2 beta started.

I agree with all ten of these being the most important events of 2010. However, #8 and #4 need to be switched. Lets think logically: how can the Emperor switching over to a new game, be bigger than the game releasing? It doesn't make any sense.
Oh well. Interesting year nevertheless.
Oh, and I definitely agree that Effort retiring is huge. Nobody just kills bonjwa and then leaves. We will never have such a badass again.
