"Our Gamer of the Year is Starcraft II legend and pillar of the community, Sean ‘Day [9]‘ Plott
If you sliced Sean Plott’s arm open, you wouldn’t find any blood – you’d be hit in the face with arterial sprays of StarCraft. Day[9], as the internet knows him, lives and breathes the strategy series, making a living at one point as a professional StarCraft: Brood War player. He now dedicates most of his time to helping fellow players up their StarCraft II game through daily video tutorials and commentating sessions."
Congrats! You deserve it.

Awesome, not a person more deserving than Day9. He's does so much for esports and asks nothing in return. Standup guy in general. Cheers Day, and Merry Christmas. Enjoy the break
|
I still cannot get over the uneven teeth it's almost like they are HELPFUL to his lovable image now. You see him and you just get all happy, you see those and they just make it even more lovable.
We love you Day9! Congratz!

|
Wow never really heard much of this, Great job Sean! congratulations
|
Thats so good for Sean. And if any1 in the western world earns this award, then it must be Mr Sean Plott
|
<3 Day[9]
I wish he would go back to commentating BW games once in a while, but what the heck. Definitely the most deserving person of such an award.
|
Never a more dedicated and deserving person then Day9. He's one of if not the hardest working guy on the scene and his casting abilities are the stuff of legends at this point. Glad to see pc gamer give it to him.

Grats!

Definitely deserves it. Glad he gets a bit of a wider recognition/audience with this.

Well worth! Day[9] is, and will be for many years to come, the best ambassador for e-sports! Congrats!

I agree, sometimes I wish he'd just show one game like every 50 dailies or so.. just so that the people who are completely new to the sc scene can see just a little bit of what bw players were like compared to the sc2 players of now (even if it's just for the sake of maintaining a sense of sc history). Although... I'm sure a lot of sc2 gamers don't give a shit about broodwar =[

Day9 is awesome, he deserves it! congrats!!
|
What a champ, Day[9] for SC2 spokesperson

Congrats Sean! Maybe it's time to go watch Daily #100 yet again to remember how awesome you are.

Wow. Finally some of the recognition the man truly deserves. Absolutely awesome. Congrats Sean, we love you.

Congratulations D9!
Reading about his dedication and love for the game - does anyone know in what episode he talked about KotB and how he set it up? I think that episode showed just that and would love to see it again.
Thanks in advance.
|
Congrats Sean, you absolutely deserve it. Starcraft community <3 Sean "Day[9]" Plott!

The man with the best, most genuine laugh in the scene. I remember when you started out with your daily. You put your personality in this thing and shaped into such a fine commentator and entertainer. Cheers man, I agree with the choice.

From reddit:
Just FYI, guys - we've got a 15,000 word interview with Sean in the pipe to go up soon after Christmas, where he talks about his past, his motivations, StarCraft II, and his favourite BW games (I work for PC Gamer).

Well deserved and about time! :-) merry christmas sean!

Go Sean! You're the best! :D

He puts a ridiculous amount of time into his dailies alone (like 40 hours or something? heard it in an interview) and is doing a masters in math at the same time, so crazy. He really deserves it.
|
god fucking yes
about time they recognized him

What he does for the community is well-deserving of this recognition. Props Sean!

In an array with letters A-J:
Index numbers -------------------- A: 0 B: 1 C: 2 D: 3 E: 4 F: 5 G: 6 H: 7 I: 8 J: 9
Also consider that index numbers in arrays generally are represented in [] format. So Day[9] == J
Something I thought about one night for some reason...

I LIKE BROOD WAR! =D. Even as a player where SC2 is my first serious RTS since Homeworld, I try to watch and learn about BW as much as I can not just for the homage but for the awesomeness the game and the scene hosts.
And gratz Day9, you're maxing out on baller chips this year, may 2011 be even more fruitful!

Day9... that a boy i havent seen one of his dailies in a while but i used to watch them every day still love his commentating

Congrats Day[9]!! Very wel ldeserved.

Grats Day9, if anyone deserves it, it's you.
Your dailies make me not only a better gamer, but a better person.
|
Cool. The "build drones"-episode really helped me play better. Before that I 100% roach all-in rushed my way into pretty high gold but it was beginning to stop working for some reason.. So building drones after 16-17 supply turned out to work once you got the hang of it.
Also who discusses the topic "when to build drones" for 60 minutes? Such lovely nerdiness.

Congratulations Day9! Well deserved.

Pff, of the Year? Day[9] does not deserves such a low award. More likely of the Decade. I won't talk about Century because we barely got out of the first decade, but still.

I couldn't think of a better gamer than Day[9]. W2G

I would also second the "please cast a BW game every once in a while" plea. I miss the SC:BW casts. Even if he just casted the OSL/MSL finals or something that would be utterly amazing.

Wow, Congrats Day[9], what everyone else has said in this thread couldn't be more true, you do deserve it.
By the way, I agree with the do a BW cast every once in a while. Maybe every other friday or something.

Congrats Day[9]!
cant wait to see what 2011 brings for the Daily

Wow, I certainly approve.
|
Very big congratulation! Very well deserved! ^_^
|
He more or less primarily commentates/shoutcasts.... not necessarily a "gamer". Regardless we don't know him personally to determine if he does game as much, but we know what he's known for. It's for his commentary not gaming, nonetheless I love Sean so Congrats to him. Perhaps a little misplaced of an award for him though.
|
Day[9] helped me out of D- back in the Brood War days... I followed his Dailies religiously... and now he's a full-fledged e-celebrity... is it weird that I feel proud? I feel like he represents everything that Teamliquid stands for; a community driven by user-created content that promotes intellectual discussion and global understanding. Congratulations Sean! I still hope to meet you one day.
Sorry for the mushiness...

I would just like to congratulate Day[9] for his amazing work and dedication to all that is Starcraft. Thank you very much for all that you have done!

Day9 talks fundamental strategy like no other and does it in a way so that anyone can understand. Everything else aside from artosis/tasteless commentary is fluff. What sets day9 apart from those 2 pro casters is that anyone can understand him. I like djwheat, husky, and others as far as entertainment value is concerned, but after watching pro starcraft for the past 10 years of my life, I find my understanding of the game infinitely deeper then anything they have to say, the only casters who challenge the way I approach starcraft strategically are day9 and artosis, that's it.
EDIT: Oh ya, and grats Sean, you deserve it!
|
Merry Christmas Day9!
Thank you for everything and most importantly your infectious laugh that nearly killed everyone actually playing the drinking game in the last SOTG

Congrats Day[9]!!! I would believe that it would be hard to say that you are not a complete baller as you call so many others. You deserve this for sure and as you try and make e-sports bigger, this award only fuels the fire!! Does it make you feel amazing that everything you do just makes e-sports that much more successful??

|
Granted I have no knowledge of the competition, but I firmly believe no one deserves this title more than Sean Plott.
He's dedicated so much time and effort to the game of Starcraft and, more importantly, to the community, and expected absolutely nothing in return (though I'm glad to say we've managed to return the favor in what little ways we can). I'm really happy that he's getting the recognition he deserves.
Congrats, Sean.

Of COURSE it's a popularity contest. How are you supposed to help e-sports if you're not popular?
The good thing about Day[9] is that he is popular because he is the best.
Congrats, Day9, and thanks.
|
Great to see some more Day 9 love in more mainstream news!
Thanks to Day9, I'm still terrible at Starcraft 2! I'm just a terrible diamond player instead of a terrible copper player before tuning in to his show! He has taught me that there is always more to learn and always room for improvement, and to just enjoy the game no matter the wins or losses.
Thanks Day9!

This is incredible! Congrats Day[9] and keep up the excellent work!

Congratulations Day[9]!
I kinda don't agree with "SC2 legend" term, he surely is legend for SC1 (did they say anything about his HUGE SC 1 accomplishments?) but SC2 is too young to have "legends"... Day deserved this award long before SC2 came out BTW!
|
Grats man! Definitely long deserved!
Now all he needs is his own theme song!
|
Well deserved. Now we just need Day to get his own tv show.
|
congratz day9 ;D very well deserved.

Congrats Day9! Remain epic for years to come!
|
You deserved it. Thank you so much Day, you're the reason I'm trying hard to become a professional gamer.
|
I don't think anyone has ever deserved anything as much as you deserve this. I love you.
|
Well done. Definately deserves it
|
He really does live and breath starcraft :D. Congrats and thanks for all the work you put into the community

Gratz Day9! And merry christmas to all the people out there!

How exactly do you feel like he doesn't deserve it? He does such a tremendous amount for the Starcraft community, I feel like he's a very good candidate to have received that sort of recognition. I feel like anyone that streams and cast random tournaments could have this award if he deserved it. Why day9 and not djwheat, chill, artosis, etc? Unless this is award is a popularity contest i fail to see why.
A valid question Glasse. But rather than say that you don't think he deserves it, you might want to ask why he deserves it. I see you joined TL in July. Day[9] has been a pillar of the Starcraft community for a decade. You may want to hang out for a while and learn some stuff before you go calling out the majority of TLs favorite gamer.
Now, no offense to the other guys you listed there, they are all quality guys and have made some great contributions, but Day is on another level in many ways. Here, let me list some of them for you:
1. Experience as a top level player. 2. Strategical depth and insight. 3. Infectious goofy personality 4. Humor 5. Prolific output 6. Respect.
1. Experience as a top level player.
Day[9] has been playing Starcraft for a long time. I believe since it came out. He's been at the top of the american scene since 2003 or so, and own WCG USA in 2005. He took second place in 2004 and 2005. He won the WCG Pan American games in 2007. He reached A level in the toughest ladders like PGTour, ICCup, and I believe WGTour as well. His 300 APM Zerg was a site to behold. This experience at being the best of the best this side of the Atlantic means that when he tells you something is important to being a better gamer, you know it's true. Trust and believe! None of those gamers you listed, even Tasteless, was ever anywhere near his skill level.
2. Strategical depth and insight.
Just being good at a game does not necessarily mean that you are going to be good at conveying ideas about the game to other people. This may be Day's greatest strength. He has a way of conveying deep strategic meaning in ways that are easy for almost anyone to understand. He has a way of taking abstract ideas that are important to gaming and putting them to words that convey those ideas clearly. He understands the game more deeply than any of the other casters you mentioned, even Artosis, and can lace his casts with never ending insight about everything that happens in the game, no matter how small.
3. Infectious goofy personality
This is the most subjective of my points, but many of Day's fans would agree that it's hard not to smile and feel good while watching him orate about SC or while listening to him cast. His goofy personality can cheer you up when you're in the worst of moods. Many of the other casters you mentioned have lots of awkward moments in their casts where they aren't quite sure what to say or how to fill time. Day's personality simply doesn't allow for that. He can fill any space with that personality, and keep you entertained and hanging on his every word.
4. Humor
Chill Vs. Combat-EX grudge match. Transitioning into losing your whole fucking base. Bear Semen Trumpets, midgets Funday Mondays Pieces
Just watch anything hes ever done for endless examples.
5. Prolific output.
I don't think anyone spends as much time as Day[9] giving the Starcraft community gifts of goodness. His show is the Day[9] daily. Daily! His shows can be up to a couple of hours! His viewership numbers for the daily are out of hand. He participates in State of the Game podcasts. He's hired to Cast every single high level tournament outside of Korea. Blizzcon, MLG, ESL, Dreamhack, etc. Day is in demand, casting for tournaments held by Root, EG, TL, the list goes on and on. He casts random events. He compiles mass volumes of high level commentary for times he is away on vacation and can't do his daily. Before the dailys he compiled a large set of long podcasts on Starcraft ideas no one had ever really touched on. He's interviewed by every gaming site on the planet. He's mentioned, quoted and interviewed in multiple widely published gaming magazines. The forums and blogs are filled with posts about people's lives being touched and changed by Day.
6. Respect
Day is respected by his peers universally. But more than that, Day has unlimited respect for his peers, his audience, the community, and every individual he comes into contact with. I'm not saying this isn't true about the other guys. Tasteless and Artosis are well known to be good guys. Days videos make it so obvious how much he cares about all of us, and how much respect he has for every gamer in this fold. I've had the pleasure of meeting Day and Tasteless at WCG Chicago '04, and they are both 2 of the most friendly, down to earth people you could meet. Day goes out of his way to include people and to get everyone having a good time. His work is an extension of that.
I hope this clears things up for you Glasse. Welcome to TL, and I hope you take the time to search for and experience for yourself some of the myriad ways to enjoy Day[9] here on TL.net.

Day[9] definitely deserves this. He's been so dedicated to his Dailies and commentating of tournaments. I remember when I met him @ IEM Comicon he was ridiculously tired by the end of one of the series, yet he kept his enthusiasm commentated throughout the rest of the games. Such dedication is worthy of this title, and much more. =)
edit: ah...I used my 1400th post, but it was for Day[9]. ^^;
|
Loophole that was a spectacular post that sums up pretty much all of my sentiments about Day 9 except for one thing: he is a complete badass. (Plus, he has a stuffed bunny)
Day 9 is awesome and I'm glad that he is getting recognized for it.
|
Big for the community, grats Sean!
|
Wow awesome! Sean diffently deserves this!
|
Totally deserved! I can't think of a single other person who has done this kind of work for his or hers community.
Cheers Sean!
|
Well said, Loophole.
You deserve every ounce of attention Sean. You are the man! Long live Day[9]!
|
Congrats Day9! You are an inspiration to all gamers!
|
In a past life Day(9) must have been a military general or a physicist. Great guy, great insight, blizzard should hire this guy
|
Nerd chills all over the place. Cheers Sean!
|
Beyond deserving. Day[9] is like the greatest and most inspirational gamer of all time. Good to see mainstream publications such as PC Gamer realizing this as well.
|
Merry Christmas Day[9]. Santa thinks you've been a good boy. So do I, well deserved and good to see recognition from mainstream gamer media!
Fuck yeah E-SPORTS
|
No one is more deserving, his passion for the game can be measured in infinity.
|
This is just a small thanks for all your hard work
|
Awesome.
Just yesterday the topic of Starcraft and Sean came up as I was driving down the highway with my girl. A girl that just so happens to despise gaming and sees absolutely no value in it lol ...
So I'm like
"Yeah, so this guy that I think is doing really awesome things lately ... he's ... umm ... well he's kind of a commentator in the gaming community for a game called Starcraft. I watch it more as a hardcore fan than I actually play it ...
And he does this show called the Day 9 Daily. He analyzes the game - commentates on the sport - and helps people out around the world with mastering the game. I watch his show on a regular basis because he's really entertaining and positive all around, it's fun to watch and really inspirational in a lot of ways ..."
I'm expecting her give some kind of a subtly snide attitude or comment. But:
".... hmmm Day 9 .... ya know, I think I've heard of him"
lol man. Rock on Sean. Congratulation keep on doin your thing!
|
I can't think of anymore more deserving, I have enjoyed watching Day[9] netcasts for several months now. And I have learned a lot from them.
Are there any female gamers here in the LA area? Or does anyone know a girl who just loves to do the humpty-bump? I think you should go give Day[9] some snap as a reward. A one nighter or on a repeating basis. He deserves it for all the help he has given to SC2 gamers.
|
Day[9] deserves this. What a contribution to the community. Now I have trouble beating Gold level players because they probably watch his show.
|
Nerd chills man. Wish I applied to USC now...

This...is...E-SPOOOORTS!!!
Congrats, Day9!

No one deserves it more..!
|
Congrats Sean if you read this, from Sweden/Australia :D <3 to you

I'm really glad for Day9.
He's doing so much for the community and the growth of eSports internationally, that he totally deserved it IMO.
Congrats Sean, keep up the excellent work!
|
Way to go Day9, you deserved it big time.
|
wow...i heard so much lately about sean, interviews, dailies, hosts, commentaries...i was really fed up not personally, but he was just everywhere...

Better get used to it, but the end of 2040 he'll be emperor of the world and EVERYBODY will be happy, no exception.
PS: that's just assuming we get thru 2012.
Congrats Day9, you deserve this, no doubt about that, keep up the beyond awesome work, I can only see good things for you in the future. :D

Sean "Day[9]" Plott > Mark Zuckerberg.
You screwed up Time - big time.

That's awesome. Day[9] has had a huge impact on the SC2 community and even educated a few nerds in the process. I hope he continues to receive this kind of recognition.
|
GRATZ Day9! You've been with us since the beginning! Your dedication and perseverance has not gone unnoticed in the least. Thank you for making our SC experience even greater. Much <333333333

Day[9]. You are the mother fucking man <3
|
No one better than Day9 to receive this award. The amount he has contributed to the Starcraft community in his infinity years as a part of it is more than people can imagine. His influence and continual support for Starcraft and E-Sports in general are instrumental in allowing it continue to grow.
|
There is no person that deserves it more in any gaming community. Day9 works so hard to help Competitive Gaming and the Starcraft community. He is a great man that deserves more recognition for what he does.
If I was not a PC Gamer subscriber already, I would definitely subscribe just due too this fact. I think anyone that is not already and loves Day9 should go support PC gamer, even if it is buying 1 or 2 (and before anyone asks I have no affiliated with PC Gamer).
Grats again. keep up the good work. And enjoy your vacation.
|
Congrats Day9/Sean Plott. Gamer of the year all years in my book. King of gamers. Thanks for everything!!
|
No one is more deserving than Sean.

Couldnt have gone to a more deserving person.

nobody deserves it more than you Mr Thoughthammer!
Congratulations!

Sc2 is the first RTS I've really played (only played Fastest Map Possible 3v3 on BW :3) and I'm a 2k diamond thanks mostly to the teachings and entertainment provided by Sean Plott. His Daily is added to the list of Things That Make Me Happy In Almost Any Situation, along with Bagpuss and the music of Animal Collective.

Your dailies are so good that even non-SC2 players get into them. Quite an impressive feat. =) And I've personally learned a tons about planning and strategy from you. Thank you!

Congrats to Sean, he deserves it.

congrats to day9, this is great for sc2!

hes not even a gamer but the stuffhe does makes him beyond one. cg and def deserves it for his hard work

I wish they would have mentioned his around the world commentary...but nonetheless, well deserved.
|
It's nice to see a commentator get recognized in this way. I wonder if there has ever been a gamer of the year who wasn't really "active" as a player before. And yet we've seen how Day 9 can have way more impact and influence on the way the game is played and appreciated than even the best players. I mean, we all remember "warping the metagame!"
Congratulations!
|
none deserves it more, ask anyone in the sc2 community who deserves it, 100% will say day9. such a good guy and deserves everything he gets - and more.
so much <3, keep up the amazing work man. we love you

Wow, this actually makes me like PCGamer again, even if they kinda sucked back when I subbed them.
As has been said, no one deserves it more, very happy for Sean.

Well deserved! Keep doing what you're doing - it's a blast.
And your commentaries and broadcasts are always hilarious and great to watch!

A very deserved title for Sean HE IS AWESOME!!!!

Congrats Day[9]! Nobody else comes close to deserving this title!

|
Congrats day[9]! It's awesome to see the PC gaming world at large recognize the growing Starcraft community and the figures who lead it. He's easily the most lovable and affable of gamer celebrities.
My favorite day nine moment: His chill vs combat-ex showmatch commentary, particularly at 7:00 where he notes combat-ex's failed cannon attack at chill's 3rd: "if there's anyone who knows how to be gay as fuck with cannons, it is my brother Tasteless... " followed by "...I used to wake up in a cold sweat at night and be like "momma would you please check under my bed to see if there's any cannons making!?!?" and finally "...prompting a 'are you for rela' from Chill. Well, for rela indeed, cannons be everywhere!" Oh, and don't forget BEAR SEMEN! "we wouldn't want people thinking that we hold bears captive and jack them off for our product"
|
|
So excited for 2011 and SC2, thanks so much to Sean and the rest of the Starcraft community for making PC gaming fun in and outside of the window I play it in. And, obligatory "Day[9] helped get me from Platinum to Diamond" endorsement here.
|
I haven't been around Starcraft nearly half as long as most of the people around here I'm sure, but even being a relative newcomer I know plenty about Day[9]. Super-enthusiastic, charismatic, funny as hell, and brilliant analyst.
I too must add the same endorsement: Day[9] helped me reach Diamond. Without his dailies I couldn't say I'd be at the same level that I am today.
|
Brought to you by the number J!!!
Day[9] is definitely high level PCGamer status.

day[9] is too awesome.

I'm pretty sure any possible contenders would busy themselves more with congratulating Day[9] and continuing their own selfless awesomeness rather than mind some gratuitousness ladled to such a deserving contemporary. Also no need to try to rub those congrats in someone's face, though, jack.
Congratulations, Mr. Plott! And a merry Christmas to boot.

as far as gamers are concerned, I can't really think of anyone that I would put above him for this award, but maybe Im biased.

Thanks to Day[9] for the fastest and possibly greatest improvement I've ever had in any game and it was enjoyable every step of the way (except for that one guy that did a cannon rush on DQ, I rolled out of the wrong side of bed that day!). Sean totally deserves this!

A well deserved recognition for day[9]! Nice to see the SC community getting such exposure among the regular gamers.

It's awesome how in a 19 page post, there are only 2 people not agreeing with the title. With anyone else, half of the posters would be dissenting.
Day[9] deserves, beyond anyone else in the gaming world, respect, encouragement, and love. It blows my mind how dedicated the guy is to the scene, no matter what the rest of the world thinks of it.
Hope he continues to work as passionately as he is working right now. =D
Congrats Sir ThoughtHammer

Day[9] deserves the smartest internet nerd of the year award, what started as a hobby for him ended up being something he can now do for a living. The donations were more than lucrative as well.

Amazing and well thought-out post, mad probs

good job sean! would like to see you win it next year too!

When we first heard about this we were like "Is this a joke??!?"
Glad to see it's not =P
|
finally an award that im not mad at he definately deserved that

The scope and quality of the Day[9]Daily content has really helped me more fully embrace SC2 and I can only imagine with other games in the future (so far it's helped for Dominion....not so much for Halo).
The content is so good in the past I have contemplated not telling my friends about it like it's an ace up my sleeve. But then I'd be a bad friend and a worse gamer for it.
And for the average gamer, one of his greatest and unique contributions is that he has help myself and others develop the mindset necessary to be our own Day[9]s for our own games. To raise the in-game and analytical skills of SC(2) gamers in the English-speaking world are goals and achievements worthy of praise.
Although, I'm sure much if not all of this will go unread by Mr. Plott since he says he never reads threads that include Day[9] in the title.
Day[9], if you are reading this, congrats and you sir are a liar.
|
wow, thats freaking awesome
|
|
day is the man, I seriously wouldn't still be as interested in sc2 or the proscene if not for day9
|
Congratulations Day[9]. No one else more deserving.
|
For getting me into diamond, Day9 totally deserves this!
|
This is great and I am happy for Day[9]. May he live a long and nerdy life.
|
Sean is the model for the kind of people we will need to truly bring SC2 as an Esport to the masses i the west. I hope he paves the way for many more in his likeness. The sport, the hobby and the community all need and deserve an embassador like Day 9.
|
|
Well done Day[9], no nerd deserves it more.
|
What to add to this thread of praise. Day[9], my congratulations, a well deserved award. And as one famous marine once said: " Hell, it's about time!". Looking forward to more amazing content in 2011. (and beyond)

and on top of this, daily #100 is the most inspirational gaming video I have ever seen. Didn't think I could sit through someone talking for 2 hours but it was very emotional and motivating.
You are the best, Day9.

|
And honorable mention for his bro, Tasteless, who is also a seriously awesome dude who brings us GSL commentary!.. And artosis I guess.............

...this is an actual award? Who are some of the previous winners?
Day of course deserves it. From work on the dailies helping people become better gamer to his growing work as an ambassador for e-sports, he is a true gamer's gamer. One thing I always appreciate in his dailies and other commentary, though, is that he understands that games are about having fun.

Only read the first few and last few pages... But ... Is this like the only thread on the forum with no flaming/trolling posts in it? lol
Anyways , definately no one deserves it more than our favourite nerd Mr. Sean Plott
|
Day9, so awesome. It really makes me happy to see this man succeed for some reason, he's so likable and he's putting in so much effort into the development of e-sports that he deserves every reward and contract he gets IMO.
|
|
That man should be made president of the world someday. Thanks to that guy i went from bronze to 2200 diamond in 3 months, and it is my first RTS ever. I can not think of some1 who deserves this more then him. atleast imo.

Jumping on the congratulation bandwagon, day 9 is awesome
|
Very much deserved. Turning a hobby into a passion, turning a passion into a career. You said you wanted to bring e-sports to the West in a more real way, I think your name has become synonymous with e-sports on a global scale.
Congratulations sir.
|
Gratz to Day[9]. Day for president! :D

Idd
Day[9] deserves this title so much!
Gz man.
|
I just watched daily #100. Day9 is an amazing guy who helps so many with Starcraft while providing ample entertainment - I personally moved up league with help from his dailies.
Congratulations Day9, you certainly deserve this and more.
|
|
If there were ever an ambassador to e-sports, you better believe that Day9..... would critique his play and tell him to build more workers.
|
I'm disappointed. Where's the two page spread of Sean? What gives? The outrage!
|
Soo beast, gratz Day[9] !
|
|
Way to go day9! If you couldn't tell by the rest of the thread we love you :D

|
Wow, that is awesome that Sean got recognized. No one is more deserving.
|
Big congrats to Sean!! Love the daily. happy 2011

One of the most illustrative points in this thread, is the lack of flaming. I can't think of a single other person in e-sports in the west (or hell, foreigners in the east like Artosis/Tastless) that, if given such a title, there wouldn't be a string of "User was temp banned..." for some extreme hate-flame. But, none. Two mod warnings/bans for use of the "f" word.. (ctrl + f if you're really that curious). Not that other casters or members of e-sports are unlikeable or hated, but it clearly shows how much Sean is appreciated in the community. He's a generally terrific guy and gives so much to the community. I have never had a bad thing to say about him to anyone.
I watched your dailies, often live, from about #5, to about #120. Not because the quality was any worse, simply because SC2 has not grabbed me the same was SC1 does, and I don't have enough free time to have that warrant watching the daily on SC2. It has nothing to do with your production or quality of the show, which are both fantastic.
Keep it up. TL loves you.

I doubt that it will happen but I really hope that Shaun see's this thread and reads through some of the replies you guys have written. Us internet nerds can be a callus and often abusive lot and there really is none of that here - which is what makes his achievement all the better. Shaun has not only taken a video game and reached out to fans of that game, he has introduced it to people that have nothing to do with that game at all. To take this thing that we all love and to be able to articulate how it makes us all feel well enough that it is introduced into the mainstream a little more each day, speaks of a passion and drive that is so very rare. I can honestly say that if it wasnt for his dailies Starcraft 2 (I have no Strarcraft 1, or Broodwar experience im ashamed to say) wouldnt be anywhere near as popular as it is. I think that is is fantastic that he has been given this award as he is a true ambassador for this sport.
Shaun, Thank you for everything you have done for this game. If I hadnt stumbled across your Day [9] Daily show I probably wouldnt have carried on playing this game, but your infectious enthusiasm and love for it has me inspired me to both play and commentate to try and spread the community. I wish you the very best for the coming year and hope to see more of you doing what it is you do best.

Day spends all day (lol) on teamliquid he is probably paralyzed by joy every time he reads this thread and thus unable to post
|
I love Day9 and watching his dailies have helped me improve more than any other 1 source (aside from playing!) but he does get a bit overly critical. Especially since even he's been known to throw down some pretty terrible storms and ff (see his show matches with his brother)
|
Can't think of a more deserving person
|
<3 Day, GL Man Keep it up, like always!
|
Awesome day9. If i have a bad day, I watch your dailies. You have no idea how many times I have fallen asleep listening to your voice watching old dailies =)
|
Any clue hows hes gonna making a living outta this...?
|
GJ Day[J] Well deserved for being everything and more for the community.
|
Very well deserved. Congrats! =D
|
day 9 you truly are a starcraft god, you have given everything to the e-sports community and ask nothing in return, you have dedicated most of your life to esports, nobody is more deserving of this award than you, enjoy and keep you dailys and casting coming.

Congrats Day[9], nobody deserves it more. The most important person in the community.

I remember the first video i saw of Day[9], protoss openers, never stopped since. When I want to watch something entertaining, his videos usually compete with television (and usually win!)

Congratulations, nowhere is there a more deserving person for this award, Sean's 100th daily was inspirational, and taught me to be proud of how much i adore gaming, and anyone that can be that revealing and inspiring is truly the winner of this, well done Day[J]

Congrats Sean. You single handedly improved my skill level from Silver to Diamond. Thanks!
|
GOD that's so fantastic. He really deserves it too for all the work he's put into the community, he's so damn selfless. When I grow up I want to be Day[9]
|
Wow! I'm a bit late, but Day9 totally deserves this! He's the reason I know what little I know about Starcraft. A truly inspirational man in the gaming community, and just seems like an all-round nice fellow.
