Cool, interesting to see the environment they live in.

I thought they were walking into a nuclear bunker at the beginning because it looked underground. >_<

This is awesome. I love the more behind-the-scenes programs like these that OGN/MBC used to put on. Whether it be Old Boy, Hyungjoon Becomes a Progamer, or the more classic ones when they used to just visit the individual team houses. Also, LOL @ European Style = bad.

They should totally make a Reality TV show about pro sc2 gamers living in their house training and add in some foreign chicks and some drama and it could get the word of E-sports out there and make some money! The new Jersey Shore?

I loved Nal_ra old boy because he knew everyone and they acted normal around him .

I watched the whole Hyungjoon series, but it was a little awkward at times.

Neat video.

Don't know if I've transcribed it all accurately, but A-league has:
mc, zenio, carmel, thewind, top, ee, layla, inca, hyperdub, huk, ret

B-league has:
v, luvsic, rajun?, cezanne, hero, bally, steamwar, jinro, haypro, nada(!)

Thanks for the vid. Was cool seeing the oGs + TL guys practice.

Spunky said they do a in-house league everyday to determine the best, is that how they determine the A-B league thing? Also does that change every day or how does it work?

Sweeeet, more behind the scenes stuff! I've always wondered how the house conditions were for SC2 for some of these teams. Spunky seems pretty chill. Zenio always looks intimidating with his tough guy look haha. Man, the host has a pretty deep voice Thanks for sharing, Is there a possibility for another vid with other teams?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and guess that perhaps players START in the A-team? Although I'm not sure. Nada, HuK and ReT are the most recent additions to the house/oGs so perhaps that's why they're in red? Or that they're in danger of relegation. Then again, Nada in danger of being relegated to... kicked out of oGs? xD

This is the only other footage they have. According to today's Happy Hour over at Giant Bomb, they have no plans for another video unfortunately. They filmed over 8 hours worth of stuff, but apparently not all of it can be used for videos. They showed the outtakes today on a live show though, and most of it was them going around Korea with the Blizzard guys which was pretty cool.

Brad also talks about the trip on Giant Bomb's most recent podcast for the first 30 minutes of it:

I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure that is the rating of how each player is doing at that time. I hear oGsMC seem to always do very good in the in-house games so I'm not surprised that he is in the A team. Plus, people have bad days and that is probably why Jinro, Haypro and Nada are on the B team.

How is this coverage so good? I have never heard of giantbomb until now, but here it is making the best SC2 in Korea video so far.

they got invited by Blizzard to watch GSL2 finals, so Blizzard probably set up a lot of the stuff (if not everything) that giantbomb is covering in the videos

Yeah they're old friends with the PR guy from Blizzard because all of them worked at Gamespot together a long time ago. They're a team that have been together for a really long time, so they're pretty experienced and Brad is a Starcraft nerd with a nice deep voice which is why the coverage is so good.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and guess that perhaps players START in the A-team? Although I'm not sure. Nada, HuK and ReT are the most recent additions to the house/oGs so perhaps that's why they're in red? Or that they're in danger of relegation. Then again, Nada in danger of being relegated to... kicked out of oGs? xD

No it's not like that, you do start in B, but it is important to note that the A and B team doesn't work like it does in BW. In BW it is really like a set team, a lot like football where you don't just swap people around all the time but look for a very stable setting.

So promoting someone to A or demoting someone to B is a big deal in traditional team sports because you need to have a stable team as they work together in matches. As a result the A and B teams are split up and it's a big deal to get into A or go down to B. As for the way it works in our house they just exist so that on average people play more within their skill level, and because the group of players is too large for everyone to play everyone in ranking matches.

Therefor we are able to promote and demote players based on results of a short time period. That's why you sometimes hear Jinro made it up to the A team and then the next time he is in B again. There's a group of players that go up and down a lot, not quite able to dominate the A team on a weekly basis but good enough to put up consistent winning records in the B team. So you see someone in B, he may have been A yesterday and the other way around. It's just a very brief glimpse in time. You see someone in A every single week and you know he's crushing souls.

I'm pretty sure HuK was the lucky liquidian to do the house chores that day.

The guy doing the interviews had a really distracting accent and he seemed nervous and flustered.

BUT, this is a awesome inside look that not many of us get a chance to see. So thank you giantbomb for the coverage.

Kespa seems more like a dictator but I was never one for politics or anything of that sort. It was awesome seeing where they lived, for some reason I had this old preconceived notion of some sort of boot-camp style living area.

Seeing how they live and play, really makes me wish I could go over to korea and do soemthing along those lines. Live with friends, play together, sleep together and all that.

I've always wanted to watch a video like this! Thanks to them for doing it!

I join the group of people that are curious about the gosu chairs some of the guys are using there. And, related to that, I think it would be awesome if TL/oGs/everyone made pages where their players put all of the equipment they use. EG does it, but, since Steelseries is a major sponsor, you basically just see them for every single thing.

yaay superb video it's just like having a visit at their apartement exept the questions to the players that could have been better but it's redundant in any (e)sports interviews are verry rarely juicy

also, we've known for a while that there are rankings inside training houses but is there any chances that they go public ?

That was a very well made video. Thanks you for taking the time to make this, I'd been very curious on living conditions/practice regiments for the Liquid players. Spunky seems like an amazing guy. His English is really good almost as if he has spent a long period of time in a primarily English speaking country... Wish all the Liquid players the best of luck!

I'm not sure if this is a good place to put it, but the guy who made this video also made a video of the GSL 2 finals, with interviews from zergbong after winning, tastosis and idra, and it's also a pretty cool video, here's a link http://www.giantbomb.com/giant-bomb-in-korea-the-gsl-starcraft-ii-finals/17-3514/

i am gonna take a wild guess that it's because haypro didn't want to be interviewed

I remembered he didn't wanna be interviewed by Artosis before GSL qualifier because he was very nervous or something. He only gave one after he qualified.

That was a really nice tour! Spunky is awesome, as is the house! Everything looks really expensive and when they showed the living room I could imagine rekrul sitting on the couch having a good time with the team. It looks a lot more comfortable than in the estro house when ret was there. I really hope you guys have a very good time doing what you love! Good luck with everything!!

This was a very good watch. This seems like a very luxurious appartment as well. Training environment seems to be very good as well.

I must say this house is awesome. I really didn't expect it to look as good as it did. Wow Spunky has like perfect english. So glad he is helping to connect the korean scene with the rest of the world. Props. I hope he shows a video of a short practice session next. Wait......better yet.......A tv series like Nal_ra or HyunJoon...gogogogoogogo!

He didn't complain about living in the oGs house. Actually he said he maybe would like to come back sometime. I think he's homesick, not seeing his friends and family for quite some time. There is a long interview from TaKe which will probably clear this up.

Lol, the TeamLiquid room is soo much messier than the oGs Korean players' room.

Edit: HuK's voice is such a surprise! Seeing him in his hoodie everywhere I expected him to sound like a thug or a badass.

Exactly. From watching the Nal_ra old boy series the SKT1/KT Rolster/WeMadeFox/Hite Sparkyz houses are x20 better than the oGs house.

The SKT1 house is a nerd's fantasy.

I'm sorry for being wrong. He said he was missing his family and friends so I assumed he was being homesick. Anyhow he didn't complain about the oGs house which was my main point and assuming that he was homesick is just me thinking that he was indicated by the "I think". cool to get an impression of the enviroment they are living and practising in. spunky seems to be a realyl nice guy as well. also i like the 2nd part of the videos when artosis and tasteless are interviewed after the gsl finals. i missed that during the actual tournament when they were immediately shut down after the 7th game.

he did complain, that sleeping with 6 in a room which is smaller then my room, is just not a way to live ...

dunno how someone can live under such condition, i am pretty surprised that tlo managed to survive 2 whole months in this prison
while the house seems fine, it is way to small (6people in a small sleeping room???)

His reason for going home was because of lack of privacy and freedom of his training time, being homesick was also a reason but not his main one, that is what he said.
Also, he mentioned that he might go back if under other conditions.

But lets stop derailing from the topic, as this is not about TLO ^_^

Thanks for the vids Brad !

"Out-of-game" footage about SC II in Korea ( or anywhere for that matter) is always a delight, especially if there is some hot TeamLiquid action included.

Watched both videos on giantbomb.com , great work both visually and in terms of substance.
Nice to see Blizzard folks getting involved with the community too.

Wicked.

Anyone else notice Zenio tugging his ear when he spoke about TL? That irks me. Over here, that usually means someone is about to tell a lie. D: Hopefully he didn't mean anything about and it was just a nervous tick.

Thats because all the clothes drawers are in the Korean room (they used to be split, but when huk/ret were about to come we had to move them cuz we needed room for another bed). Also, the "TL" room is 3 Koreans and us.

Also the korean room is only used for sleep while the other room is connected to a bathroom and a big closet..

What's that frame at the top-centre of the screen in these two shots?

Our internet was extremely laggy (only the bottom row of computers) for the entire day, we could barely even finish 1 game, so we played UMS ;/

With no offense to the players or pro-gaming, I totally understand why TLO wouldn't want to spend the next year or two there.

I mean, its a great environment for improving, its your day job, you got co-workers to discuss your job, living in that kind of atmosphere will no doubt improve their skills. 12 hours of practicing there is totally different from 12 hours of practicing on ladder with random opponents.

However, I would totally understand anyone who doesnt want to stay there. living with 6 people in a tiny room is not what westerners are used to, in fact they probably have a house that big for themselves instead of 30 people.

It is fairly common in asia tho, like university residents. The residents in NA are HUGE compare to what they have in Korea or China, 8 people in a tiny room is actually the norm.

But yeah.....now i feel really bad for Huk, its going to be hard for him to get into GSL now, its gonna take at least half a year. If he stays in Korea it's going to be hard, but moving out would mean a great loss and possibly losing the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

Aww poor Huk ><

It would be so cool do to stuff like that, however i feel that i would NEVER be able to. That much starcraft would drive me insane, you have to have such great dedication to what you believe in to play that many games in a straight session. I wonder how often they try crazy new things on each other, like building just queens and ultras or something.

That's some crazy commitment living so many people in so little room. Hopefully theres going to be more money flowing to the teams so they can pay for less cramped living space.

Lol, its nice seeing so many people being scarred and shocked to see the living conditions of Progamers for the first time. Yep, its like that. NaDa, SlayerSBoxer, ZergBong (not so much) they've lived like that for 10 years, that's what they've given.

Thats why when people call people like qxc and select ~pros~ I can't quite take them seriously.Yes, those guys are very good, excellent even, at SC2. But do they get paid to play full-time. Is it their job? Have they spent years in living conditions like these doing menial chores just to get up to that level?

No. But all the SC:BW B-teamers that get knocked out in the major league qualifiers have. The B-teamers who's highest achievements will be some glory in the minor leagues have given up their college and even some secondary education for it. All the SC:BW A-teamers, they've been at it for even longer. What do the SC2 ~"Pros"~ have on that?
BW4LYF . . . . . . PM me, I LOVE PMs. . . . . . Long live "NaDa's Body" . . . . . . Fantasy | Bisu/Best | Jaedong . . . . .

Thank you!

The practice house is pretty neat, definitely better than the conditions the old BW players had to put up with.

Anybody remember that National Geographic video on Xellos? The pre-CJ period when Cho couldn't feed his kids.

Keep in mind though that normal residence in these cities ( Tokyo and Seoul) are very very small compared to houses in USA or Europe. If you have seen Nal-ra Old boy series, his apartment was very small as well. It is just a very crowded city.

In that sense, the living condition is relatively decent. I understand why a European might not enjoy the living condition so much though.

As people said before Seoul is a insanely crowded city so living like this is nothing special for the koreans, really it's just us Americans/Europeans having insanely huge houses/flats compared to most of Asia.

Just to clear things up. In the interview with TLO he said the reason to why he went home was because he has problems with his wrists.. carpal tunnel?
Either way he wanted to go home to Germany so that the doctors there could patch him up. He didn't mention anything about the house being too small. I think the players get informed about that before they go there anyway.

Also i have one question, With the internal ranking system does the best and worst player switch around a lot and hows does the training for a player differ (if any) if they are first or last?

To the guy who called it a "prison"... maybe to you it would be. But if you love SC2 and really want to be the best, seems like it would be a lot of fun to be there, or at least seem like the negatives are easily worth putting up with.

If I had the skill I know I would love to live in a place like that, at least for the first couple weeks. Hard to say how it would affect you as the weeks turn into a month, and then many months.

If any of the Team Liquid guys over there are reading this, I'd love to hear more comments on what it's like to live there, if it ever gets hard to handle.... if anyone ever goes "I'm burned out on SC and just can't play today" and just how bad that would be for your gaming career... and also not just the negatives, the unexpected/random positive things would be great to hear as well.

the one guy said only practice about 7-8 hours a day , seems more reasonable to me

the living conditions also seem a bit crowded, don't these guys earn enough money not to sleep in bunk beds like children?

No offense, but the interviewer says "uh" wayy too much. Did anyone else find it really annoying or am I just picky?

With that said, I have been looking for a video or even pictures of the oGs house for ages! Im glad someone got to go in!!

That's really, really, really, really cool.

And to the guys talking about how bad the living quarters are- it's already stated that the rooms are used for nothing but sleeping. What's wrong with bunk beds? It's like living in a college dorm. It makes much more sense for money to be used on other stuff.

Welcome to Korea and a Pro Gamer house. Yes, I saw your other comments about you living in China. I'm sure if one of the players had a problem with the conditions (for example, TLO) then they would find something more suitable. This isn't your problem. It's their's. Thank you for showing your concern about the players well-being.

Nothing wrong with being short.

Ya i just think that it would feel so bad being last for like a month straight. It may happen depending on how a player is performing but i would assume that it gets tossed around often

I really want to know the background of Spunky since his English is very good. Was he born in the states? Because it's common for people to be born in their native country and move to the states or another country. An example would be Daniel Lee, who was born in Korea, then move to the states at a young age, which is why his English is so good.

Not sure where he was born, but he lived in Denmark for a long time, and I think some other places in Europe/maybe US?

Anyway, english is pretty much his shared-first language I think.

Thanks for the tour. Nice to see a look into the pro player's lives. Much appreciated.
