...what are you talking about ?

You left out 64G, the last group. 64A plays at 7pm the first day, and then B+C plays at 1pm and 7pm respectively the next day, etc etc.

They had Nada as P in one of his GSL2 series, so I'm guessing that's a mistake as well.

Lots of names I don't recognize, looks like there's a lot of new blood in this GSL.

at a second glance, not that many new players after all

There's got to be some kind of scheduling error. IdrA is going to Dreamhack, which starts on the same day as his GSL game. I was expecting him to play on Monday or Tuesday since GomTV seems pretty accommodating to players playing in other tournaments.

Overall there doesn't seem to be any big name vs big name matchups in the round of 64 which is good.

So no foreigners have any known players.

I guess that doesn't mean they're bad, because honestly, did anyone know who Foxer was in GSL2?

July in group E is the most prominent, as he's a Golden Mouse winner. Max was a lower-tier BW pro, and I could swear there was another but I've forgotten him.

Cyrano is like 600th on ladder and is the lowest-ranked qualifier this season, Ret should whoop him easy.

Looks like they are against mirror matchups so early on. Sad really, the more zergs and terrans eliminate each other in mirror matches the more toss has a chance of getting a player to the ro8. Which is the protoss ultimate goal.

14 tvz is functionally identical as 7 zvz and 7 tvt as far as how many non-protoss advance. and i'm pretty sure you don't want more pvp.

Yep. Plus i know a lot of Zergs are confused about ZvZ at the moment, so to watch it at a high level is actually really educational

If that's really July then this is HUGE for the GSL~

I was curious about this, so I looked up the schedule for Dreamhack:

25/11 20.00 Group A / Group B – Round 1

25/11 21.00 Group A / Group B – Round 2
25/11 22.00 Group A / Group B – Round 3
26/11 09.00 Group C / Group D – Round 1
26/11 10.00 Group C / Group D – Round 2
26/11 11.00 Group C / Group D – Round 3
26/11 13.00 Group E / Group F – Round 1
26/11 14.00 Group E / Group F – Round 2
26/11 15.00 Group E / Group F – Round 3
26/11 17.00 Group G / Group H – Round 1
26/11 18.00 Group G / Group H – Round 2
26/11 19.00 Group G / Group H – Round 3

It'll be close, but it's confirmed that he is attending Dreamhack.

Ahhh wow.

They really opened the door for a TON of zergs I think.
Seems like most all the zergs get every matchup besides zvz (besides FD, but plz)

I am super excited.

No big name v.s. big name in round of 64.

GOM is definitely doing some rigging, which is just fine.

Because I really don't want another TLO v.s. Sangho in the round of 64.

They should just pair up all the Zergs against each other and get all the ZvZ out of the way in round of 64.

Was kinda hopin for more first round zvz's so they would be thinned out a little, sigh. Anywho, good luck to all the liquid guys slash foreigners in general!

also, i hope the random fOu player makes it into the later rounds...think it could make for some good games.

As much as i want Sen ( foreigner ) to win im gonna be going for Vines because its just that important to actually see some protoss remain.

Match ups look pretty good for the foreigners though. Think atleast 3/5 will make it through to ro32.

So many TvZs

Nice to see that a lot of the foreigners are matched up with "no-names" (as in they haven't done much in GSL1,2). Hopefully we'll see a bunch of them advancing to the round of 32.

You guys do know that they do pair up players by

They have 4 brackets and divide races by four and tries to put equal amount of races each bracket

Terran 26 / 4 = 6 per bracket +1 extra to two brackets.
Zerg 25 / 4 = 6 per bracket +1 extra to one bracket
Protoss 12 / 4 = 3 per bracket
Random 1 / over 9000

Bracket A
7
6
3

Bracket B
6

3

Bracket C

Bracket D

Awesome first day, glad to see JookTo, Can't wait for Sen's game, NesTea, Maka, and TheWinD should mop the floor with their opponents.

Glad that there are no PvP's so early, but also unfortunate that not many of my brotoss bretheren go into the Ro64.

The only person who got matched up for a TvT is SlayerSBoxeR (and the person he is playing against), that sure is convenient considering it is his best match-up.

It sure looks like these things are rigged. I'm not complaining though, I like to see SlayerSBoxeR go far. Normal tournaments are set up to favor the favorites anyway via various seeding systems.

Just kind of funny

Bless has a TvT as well, but yeah they plan their Ro64 (which is nice in away, allows for possible upsets and doesn't let huge anticipated matches happen too early).

There's another TvT: (T)sCfOu vs (T)Bless

And to be fair, all the "big names" (fruitdealer, nestea, foxer etc.) are also up against nobodies.

Pullin for all our foreigners, especially IdrA and Sen. Games start monday, right? If so I will be watching them from vacation in Hawaii It looks like the foreigners should be able to make it to Ro32 no problem. Ro16 possibilities will have to wait until actual brackets are up I guess.

Also, I still think its crazy that a random qualified for the first time. Will be interested in watching how they do.

Are you sure about this? in his post-qualifier interview he said he wasn't taking that name because he didn't win so he feels he doesn't deserve it, and today in g-star he went by MarineKingPrime. I just listed him as BoxerPrime because I felt people would recognize him better that way.

Hmmm...just taking another look now.

I think the "biggest" matches of the ro64 are probably JSLZenith vs Kyrix and Clide vs Leenock.

JSL is the guy who knocked out Nada, and Leenock made it to the ro16 in GSL2, so neither of them should be pushovers for their respective opponents.

I don't recognize the names of the 3 TL opponents from any of the past GSL. Should be good. Same thing with many of the fan favorites. July is probably the one with the "hardest" match-up as the guy he's facing was on the Ro32 once.

Looks like the foreigners all have good chances of getting into the next round. None of their opponents are super well known. Hopefully the quality of the Ro64 matches is a little higher than last season. There were some pretty embarassing games played like Idra's and Foxer's opponents.

Foreigners fighting! 5/5 in Ro32!

JSLZenith vs Kyrix looks like quite a good match-up. I was actually impressed with JSL's play against Tester season 1, though he did lose. It would be interesting to see how he improved.

I see clide/leenock and alivefou/zenio as the big matchups, particularly the latter. Other matches I'm anticipating Fruitdealer's ZvZ (highly praised but I've never seen one yet), and Gumiho's match. It's too bad he got such a tough opponent, but on the up side, playing random should offer the greatest benefit against Zerg opponents.

The order of the games is not indicative of full brackets, it's simply their ro64 matchups. In past seasons games have been played not in bracket order, so it's not a good idea to try to construct a bracket out of these matchups. When I find the brackets, I'll edit them in.

Looking forward to the bolded ones. Not a lot of good stuff going on in the Ro64, which is a good thing, IMO: leave it for the later brackets. Unless we see another dark horse like Foxer (or is it OptimusPrime...or BoxerPrime...whatever) again.

Random fans, rejoice.
I hope GuMihofOu wins!

I like how many people are complaining about the huge number of TvZ's, completely ignoring the fact that a good portion of the Ro32 will probably be ZvZ.

Can't wait to see the actual brackets, these matchups look really exciting! GO JINRO!!!

As with last season, it looks like days 2 to 4 of the Ro64 will be split into afternoons and evenings (Korean time), with the non-Korean players in the afternoon sessions (apart from Sen, who is on day 1) and the big-ticket Korean players in the evening (FruitDealer, July, SlayerSBoxeR).

It makes sense, of course, but it's kind of unfortunate, because now I feel compelled to watch at least one match in every block. There goes my sleep for a week.

Just switch to VOD viewing like I have for the last few GSL's. The GOM site is really good about being spoiler friendly.

How were the brackets determined? It looks rather artificial than random to me. Also do we know next rounds' brackets yet or they will decide that after RO64?

Not that I'm complaining bout the lack of transparency, just curious

Jeez no love for ret or sen, tough crownd.

Looking at that PlayXP article where it has all of their nation flags next to their ak's is cool, but it surprised me how few foreigners actually made the tournament. No Chinese players, and only 4 foreigners from the west, quite surprising imo. I wonder if that means that this tournament will be even tougher than the last.
In order to move forward, we must rid ourselves of that which holds us back. Check out my stream and give me tips! twitch.tv/intotheskyy

John has said on his Twitter that he and a group of 5 people build the brackets. Most likely, they try to keep famous players and foreigners away from each other and split up underrepresented races like the protoss. So there is a bit of unofficial seeding.

Chances are they're going to start the actual seeding in GSL4 but yeah, makes sense that they would just try to whip it up.

Surprised how few people are talking about July vs cOre, looks to me like could be one of the best matches of the round. I'm really excited to see July's SC2 style, and cOre proved himself to be quite capable in GSL2.

Also, anyone else excited about the prospect of a Moon vs Lyn matchup at some point?

3 foreigners are playing vs. Protoss makes it so hard to root for them =(
And the other P´s don´t have easy games aswell. Won´t be many left after ro64 it seems.

There are going to be so many mirrors in this GSl. T_T So few toss and not as many of the stars. T_T

Only plus is that there are so many foreigners to root for.

Wow indeed, from what I count we have:

27 Zerg ( 42.2% )
24 Terran ( 37.5% )
12 Protoss ( 18.8% )
1 Random ( 1.6% )

That's really terrible

there are 27 zerg and only 24 terran, yet there are 14 TvZ matches but only 2 ZvZs. are the matches really chosen randomly?

Then again Fruitseller getting one of them sounds rather counterintuitive to those rigging thoughts.

Then again, it feels very unlikely to only get 2 ZvZ´s

Afterall i am still leanign more towards "coincidence"

brackets are not randomized.

as mentioned earlier in the thread, there are 6 people who "MADE" the bracket I don't think it takes 6 people to put players name into the computer and randomize it so i'm pretty sure they check points and stuff as well as history and then design the "appropriate bracket". This is especially true for qualifiers.

And pretty sure they also avoid mirrors and pitting foreigners and "big names" in the ro64.

Good luck to all the foreigners and all the Protosses ( yea i know this is contradictory especially since all the no name protosses are being "fed" into the foreigners)

Hoping the random guy makes it far as well

I'm actually happy the brackets aren't randomized despite there not being any proper seeding system. It sucks when the biggest names are all out in the first round and mirrors are generally lamer. Plus, more foreigners can make it deeper in now since they aren't knocking eachother out immediately.

Haypro can count himself lucky as well with Blistering, Scrap Station and Xel Naga vs a T...

Ret's maps are slightly harder with Temple, Jungle Basin and Metal vs a P.

Final edit: and Idra definetely needs Game 1, with Shakuras, Steppes and Jungle Basin vs a P.

It's not rigged... just... handpicked. Nobody would randomize this sort of event... Imagine a prelim group with Boxer, Nestea, Fruitdealer and 3 foreigners... of course they think about the brackets.

Gogogo Ret ZvP btw. ^^ Not sure about Lost Temple as first map though. I'd put the balanced maps first if I was GOM. :/
By the way RET, you're playing on my birthday, so if you would be so kind as to win?

I'm not a big fan of the concept of handpicking brackets in "esports".

Also hopefully they release the full brackets before ro64 transpires, because I would hate for them to handpick ro32 as well.

Interview with TeamLiquid Ret regarding GSL 3:

Starcraft2.nl> You're on top and play Wednesday against the Protoss player Cyrano. Wat weet je van hem? What do you know him?
Ret: Ik weet helemaal niks van hem, ook niet tegen wie hij heeft gewonnen in de finale, weet alleen dat ie protoss speelt. Ret: I know nothing of him, even against whom he won the finals, just know that he plays Protoss. We play on Lost Temple, Jungle Basin & Metalopis, I am not very happy with this folder, but it's not until the end of the world, hopefully his ladder rating in accordance with his skill and in that case I do not expect too many problems.

Go go Liquibet links or we will get another no points awarded due to 48h rule....

so this bracket isn't the official?

Oh no, Sen vs Sentry...I mean Protoss - still, all foreigners with chances imo. GOMTV did a terrific job with the brackets, they avoided mirrors almost completely and still no good players play against each other early, it seems.

They're not, it says so on the page:

"zNOTE:BRACKETS ONLY INDICATES THE MATCHUPS!"

Also I don't believe anything official would be on another page than korean first.

Finally I think they'd know HayprO is Swedish and not American.

Since google translate blows, I did a quick translation of the interview with Ret..
+ Show Spoiler +

Starcraft2.nl > How did the qualifiers go for you?
Ret: It was pretty easy actually, at least easier than I expected. The Terran I faced in the finals did a decent timing push and I think if we had played on smaller maps, I could've run into problems, but luckily we played on Xel Naga and crossposition on Metalopolis, so I had enough time to prepare for the attack. Afterwards, it was pretty easy to outmacro him. I didn't know any of the players in my group.

Starcraft2.nl: Well, you qualified and you're going to ply the Protoss player Cyrano. What do you know about him?
Ret: Nothing at all, I don't even know who he beat in the finals, all I know is that he plays P. The maps are Lost Temple, Jungle Basin & Metalopis, I'm not really happy about that but it's not the end of the world, I hope his ladder rating reflects his skill level because if so, I'm not really worried about that match.

Starcraft2.nl: How's your ZvP currently? In a previous interview you said that ZvZ was your weakest matchup. Is this your best matchup?
Ret: My ZvP is strong enough for me to comfortably enter midgame with a decent amount of drones. I do have trouble scouting though, stalkers kill overlords so quickly that it's hard to gather some intel on what the P is doing and sometimes that leads to you making too many drones. When that happens, even lesser Protoss can be pretty dangerous. If I can enter midgame with a good amount of drones, there's no Protoss I can't beat. I do think ZvT is my best matchup though, since those games depend less on how the early game went. I'll probably play a bit more safe against Cyrano, I hope he isn't good enough to use that to his advantage and go for a lategame plan instead.

Starcraft2.nl: Which P players are you going to practice with?
Ret: HuK, mainly, and some other Ps on the oGs team, and of course I'm going to ladder, since there's not much time between the Ro64 and the Ro32 so I need to keep my other matchups up to par.

Starcraft2.nl: Is the bracket out yet? Seems only the matches are known right now. [way to answer your own question, fool]
Ret: Yea, I'm waiting for the bracket as well, I want to know what my odds are for Ro16 and Ro8. Ro8 would be fantastic because getting S-class status is extremely important. S-class means you're with the big boys anyway and it's gonna be hard to get degraded to A-class, unless you really don't belong there of course.

Starcraft2.nl: Your goal is to win the GSL, who would you like to meet in the finals?
Ret: One of my teammates from Liquid, of course, that would be the best result. IdrA maybe, or any other foreigner or oGs member.

Starcraft2.nl: What do you think about the difference between Korean and non-Korean players? Do you think it'll change in, say, a year?
Ret: I think there's more good players than in NA/EU, and I think the 10-20 best players are better than what NA/EU have to offer. Below that level, there isn't much of a difference between KR and NA/EU. Honestly, I think that difference will only become more pronounced in the future, unless more non-Koreans go to Korea to train, or maybe get team houses where they train 24/7 and I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon.

Starcraft2.nl: Thanks for the interview, anything you'd like to tell the Dutch SC2 community?
Ret: Thanks to everyone who supports me and wants me to succeed, I'd like to keep playing with the Dutch players, but it's a lagfest at the moment. I will, however do my best to make people acknowledge Dutch SC2 players.

Pachi found the brackets and PMed them to me, they've been edited in. They are slightly different from the order the first round matches will be played in.

if a mod could change the thread title to "[GSL] S3 Brackets + ro64 Matchups" that would be awesome, thanks <3

If idra beats mvp I must say that will add a ton to his credibility.

In GSL so far he has stumbled a bit vs the good players.

Bad for Idra, Haypro and Sen, their most likely opponents in the ro32 are MVP, Rainbow and Nestea respectively :/. Idra has a good shot though.

Jinro and Ret have a better chance to make it into the ro8, Jinro has to overcome most likely Boxer and Ret has to overcome probably HongUn/Kyrix, not as bad as the three mentioned above.

Well, it's gonna be a long road for our heroes! My predictions for the later rounds are as follow:

Ret's road:
ro32: Thebest
ro16: JSL
ro8: HopeTorture

Haypro's road:
ro32: HopeTorture
ro16: FruitDealer
ro8: ret

Jinro's road:
ro32: Moon
ro16: SlayerS_BoxeR
ro8: Idra/mvp

Idra's road:
ro32: mvp
ro16: Check
ro8: SlayerS_BoxeR

Doesn't mean i believe they will make it so far, it's just what i think the coming rounds may look like IF they do

soo many zerg... but only one zvz... and only 1 tvt?.. I wonder if they try to avoid mirror match ups. statistically its very unlikely with 32 matchs and only 2 mirrors.

wow, those are some really tough opponents if they get to the RO32. i'd give Ret and Jinro a good chance to advance, but oh boy, sen vs the current champion, Haypro against the highest ranked terran in the gsl rankings and Idra vs the terran machine MVP. that is really tough

foreigners really have slim chances of making to ro8 imo

Sen vs Nestea Ro32 gg mirror specialist, Maka Ro16 (Vines doenst look weak though)
HayprO vs ITR Ro32, FD Ro16 poor guy gg
Ret vs HongUn/JSL/Kyrix Ro16
Jinro vs Moon Ro32, BoxeR Ro16 (Moon,BoxeR wont slip in TV matches)

I really don't know about Ret's chances:

I think he will make it in the ro16 though after beating Cyrano and thebestfOu in ro32. Then it gets scary as I think Kyrix (beating JSL) will meet HongUn in ro32 and both are really tough.. I think he would rather prefer to play a protoss though..

I'm quite sure they would be happy with RO 16 on their GSL debut...
Beside Idra, but when we ignore all "I'm world best player can easily come to finals -oh snap i got owned" talk, i'm sure he would be happy with RO 16 back to back too.

Beside Idra, but when we ignore all "I'm world best player can easily come to finals -oh snap i got owned" talk, i'm sure he would be happy with RO 16 back to back too.

Agreed...I mean, doesn't getting top 32 guarantee that they will be at least A-class? I would think that would be more than good enough for them. I dunno...maybe just qualifying is going to end up being good enough for A-class (given all the duplicates across the 3 tournaments). If that's the case, I'm sure they are going to be quite desperate for top 8.

hmm...
Sen not so lucky with Nestea in Ro32.
ret seems to have an easy road
Idra can show us in Ro32, how imba MVP is :D
Jinro supermazing. Possible game vs.Moon in Ro32 AND the winner might play Boxer!!!!
and Haypro will not survive the Ro32 vs. HopeTorture anyway, and the winner gets a date with Fruitdealer...

Well all the brackets are pretty much just as hard as each other.
There's no "easy" paths this time round.
If IdrA, Ret, Jinro wanna make it far they're all gonna have to beat great players. It's certainly possible.

My liquidbet has just crawled up into fetal position and is sobbing quietly, this will be hard to predict.

Also,
(T)(T)Clide vs (Z)(Z)Leenock
didnt want that to be a ro64

Thanks for translation and stuff!

Agreed. After the Ro64, almost all of the players left will be good this season. I think the foreigners will have a hard time making it past the Ro32, but hopefully they will surprise us and show that they can play on the same level as the koreans. I think out of everyone though, Haypro got the worst bracket. Potentially playing HopeTorture in the Ro32 and then FruitDealer in the Ro16. Ouch!

hoping for jinro to beat idra in ro8.
even though that means that jinro has to beat boxer first.

cant find ret in the pictures, which group is he in?

Usually yes, but when i woke up a few hours after final ended and went to check the VOD page, the facebook/twitter feed thing said something like "series tied 3-3 and going to a final match!" Im sure it was only because the final had just ended that it was still up, but still spoiled it for me

Also what maps did Idra downvote to get steppes and basin??? My guess would be Blistering Sands and Delta Quadrant although i would think you would rather play either of those than Steppes or Jungle Basin... especially Delta, i can see Blistering being a personal preference i guess.

edit: I guess XNC would make sense as well knowing Idra's play style.

I actually don't think Idra has that hard a road, unless Check is good at ZvZ. If he manages to get past MVP, the difficult opponents on the other side of the bracket are Boxer and Jinro. Boxer's TvZ is pretty bad but since his TvT is really good, he might knock out Jinro only to lose to Idra.

Jinro has a decent road that is difficult only because Boxer is good at TvT but Boxer's shaky TvZ might cause him to lose early on. I don't think Moon is that good at SC2 yet.

Haypro and Sen just have crazy difficult brackets. Ret probably has the easiest road as it doesn't look like it gets hard until the Ro16.

None of the top Koreans look like they have an easy bracket, either. Foxer's, MC's and Nestea's look the easiest. Fruitdealer and Hopetorture being on the same side of the bracket is meh.

And Boxer has way too many zergs in his bracket. I hope he's practiced that match-up a lot.

I'm cheering for random guy as well. Would be awesome if he got far.

I think Idra has a very hard road, equal to Haypro, MVP is the current #1, that has to account for something at least.

Idra v MVP and Sen v NesTea are probably the hardest Ro32 matches. Poor guys. Ret has to be pretty happy, looks like he has a good chance of S Class.

I suspect Protoss players are going to get demolished. We'll see maybe one in the Ro8, if that.

Really hard to tell or predict many brackets except maybe that I think hopetorture will play out of his bracket, Genius I think will get into round of 8... However I'm also fully expecting some new player to come and kill my liquibet rank. The wildwest of Liquibet!

BTW wondering: anyway of knowing the exact statistic of who predicted fruitdealer to be knocked out by BoxerPrime?

Ro32 at best, probably. His Ro32 opponent would be Foxer (unless NEXLine manages to take Foxer out, which is not very likely).

R16 will be tough for liquid. Ret vs Kyrix and Haypro vs Fruitdealer is a strong possibility if liquid do well.

Then the winner of those fights move on. Sadly atleast 1 liquid will not move on to top 4 from here.

So you think that Haypro can beat BOTH of GSL s1 finalists ?

Jinro wins against SlayersBoxeR and IdrA defeats both IMmvp and CheckPrime ?

Now, I'm not saying *none* of those scenarios are possible, but in order for your ro8 predictions to come true, you'd need *all* of them to happen...

Yes to Haypro and idra, but Jinro will probably play SlayeSBoXeR in Ro32 and i doubt he'll win so i stop him there and Ret has it hard after 64: anypro(prime still?) and if he makes it past that Kyrix will most likely beat him so id say 32. So unfortunate as it may be I predict TL will be entirely out after 32.

SlayerSBoxeR has good TvT so I would agree, however I don't think any foreigner will make it farther then the Ro16 except for IdrA or Ret, depending on who they play ofcourse.

I think Sen genuinely has the toughest bracket lol, but I do think he can beat zergbong, jooktojung maka and thewind are all there waiting too though so it'll be tough

I think Haypro has the easiest group so hopefully he can do well

ret has a very tough group but I genuinely believe he is the monster that artosis predicted back in January or whenever it was. He can, despite a tough group, do some ridiculous damage

Idra wont have his chance at Zenio til like, semifinals, and doubt that ZEnio could make it out of there

I'm actually most excited about 1 thing. The way things look, I think the semis are going to amazing. If it works out for the right players, it could be Foxer vs. Boxer, which would be awesome. and then it would be FruitDealer vs. Nestea, which would be season 1 champ vs. season 2 champ. But theres probably going to be a lot of upsets to ruin that. but it would be cool...

I think Haypro has the easiest group so hopefully he can do well

If Haypro wins 64, hell be up against FruitDealer, who. i think has him completely outclassed

Jinro wouldn't play Boxer in Ro32. He'd play against the winner of Liberty (Moon from WC3) vs Butterfly Effect. Jinro and Boxer could meet up in the Ro16 if they both win out though.

I don't want to wade through 19 pages of text, but the dates are wrong (if it hasn't been corrected already). The first day (November 22nd) consists of 5 games only at 7PM KST (Group A) and subsequent groups are pushed back in terms with the times you've posted. (Group B Nov. 23rd 1 PM KST...etc etc.)

Protoss actually might have a decent chance to get both Genius and oGsMC to round 8. It seems like they gave them quite easy brackets. I still have no idea how good this MC guy really is tho.

Hopetorture isn't going to have a chance to eliminate any Protosses this time either as he is prolly going to lose to Fruitdealer or some other Zerg. Thank god for that -.-.

The bracket picture is incorrect, Nexon is definitely Terran (confirmed with b.net profile, replays, and previous news)

Not looking too great for the foreigners imo. Idra probably has to face MVP in the ro32 and Haypro has to play Hopetorture, if they both advance of course. Down the line Jinro would have to play Boxer in the ro16. Ret's side of the bracket looks the nicest so far.

Genius does indeed have an easy bracket and could easily be the only protoss in quarterfinals again. MC hasnt proven that he can handle the nerves in the GSL yet. I would have to see MC beat the likes of Hyperdub and July/Zenio to believe it.

MVP >>> Idra
HopeTorture >>> Haypro

SlayersBoxer isn't great. He's average, RO32 material. Jinro might be able to take him.

Ret, ehhh, no comment.

some predictions..

Haypro can probally make it to RO32. He has to sacrifise a lamb or something to get the luck required to any further in that lovely bracket he is in.

Jinro I cant really tell with only TvT and TvZ untill RO8. I'm not really sure what is his best match ups are but terrans usualy do well against Protoss. He is on a roll though, winning MLG Dallas and qualifying to the GSL for the first time his confidence alone is going to smelt faces. He can be knocked out instantly or go very far. It's hard to tell.

IdrA and Ret could have far worse brackets with no ZvZ untill RO16 or later for both of them. Both are really fucking scary macro zergs that likes to take games to the lategame and overrun their opponents. If any of them are knocked out before RO16 its to cheese, rushes or early timing attacks withing the first 10-12 minutes of a game. While IdrA has far more experience then Ret in dealing with these Ret may have the advantage of being unknown to the Koreans making it hard to find a good snipebuild to take him out. I'd say both of them have very very good chances to get to RO16 and possibly further.

Kyrix gets a meh from me, I think Ret can take it.

My prediction is 2 foreigners in Ro16 (idra + jinro imo), one in Ro8 and then I don't know. If any foreigner can win it's probably Idra.

Sen is in a lot of trouble. Even if he wins round one then he has to play Nestea in round two, and we all know how good Nestea's ZvZ is =/

Haypro potentially faces ITR in round two as well, Jinro vs Moon and Idra vs MVP, so it's gonna be hard for foreigners to make it far. Ret might be our best chance to make the ro16.

Also, all of the brackets seem relatively even in terms of good players, there doesn't seem to be one which is noticeably easier or harder.

What happened to the map downvotes? There are so many Zergs on Steppes of War. Did zergs (especially Idra!) really not down-vote Steppes?

Speaking of maps, how do the maps look for our foreigner boys? I don't know enough about most of their individual playstyles to judge. It looks like Haypro was blessed by the map gods. Ret has to handle Jungle Basin. Jinro seems to be okay, as in Sen.

But who did Idra piss off? Shakuras is a great map for him, but Steppes and Slightly-Better-Steppes? Ugh.

I have to remember that OdinMVP is the one who eliminated HuK. I should write it on my arm so I don't forget to hate him.

If they only got 1 map to down-vote, it may very well have been Delta Quadrant(For Idra anyway)
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

Ouch. If Idra wins Ro64 he's most likely against MVP. We already know MvP is sick from his showing in GSL2 but NesTea said in an interview that 'I don't QQ about Zerg. I QQ about MvP'. So if NesTea fears MvP and from what we've seen and know from MvP. Idra has hard times ahead. Not to mention if he somehow wins that he's most likely got a ZvZ vs CheckPrime. D:

damn to get ro8 and Code-S
Haypr0 has to kill ITR and Fruitdealer -.-
Ret has to kill HongunPrime
Jinro has to kill the real Boxer

waaah ..... I would say Jinro has the best chances.

Feeling good about this. Ro64 matches and maps are definitely favorable. Rets maps are not the greatest but the matchup and opponent are a good draw for him. Ro32 matches for Ret and Jinro are still decent and Haypro has a shot at taking out a really big name there at a matchup he is comfortable with.

After that things become tricky but onto Ro16 it looks fun!

TBH I think all of the foreigners have a decent shot - skill wise. The added pressure from being on stage *may* affect their play, but hopefully not too much! Hopefully good play from the foreign participants will lead to increased awareness and more money into e-sports internationally!

But in your case, at least, it worked out pretty well, right?

Or do you feel you could win even with Steppes and Jungle Basin as the first two maps?

looks like there was a little bit of a back-end change in TLPD. I've fixed sen, haypro, and jinro's links. if anyone finds any other errors, please let me know.

I'm not sure how you can consider oGsZenio to be playing the best zvz in the world right now. While his match against IdrA was entertaining for both its creativity and uniqueness, it was a specially prepared sniping build for IdrA prepared by Spunky (as mentioned by Tasteless during game one of their Ro16 match). It might have thrown off IdrA as the one thing he relies upon heaviest to win (his macro) was severely thrown off in timing as using spawn larva is nullified by contaminate on a hatch.

If anyone single person deserves to be considered in best ZvZ in Korea or the world, that consideration goes to IMNestea for making Zenio seem lost, overwhelmed, out thought and outmatched during their Ro8 match. Zenio clearly was a grade below IMNestea's skill and decision making throughout both sets of their games. In fact, Zenio just looked downright bad at ZvZ during their matches. Sure, IMNestea won the whole tournament and didn't drop a set till the finals, but if his play is indicative of the potential of the match-up, Zenio's attempts/efforts to zvz look paltry in comparison to the next level of play IMNestea brought every single game.

I guess from the foreigner only Haypro and Jinro received good maps for their race. The other observations is that Tosses received good maps for the mathcups.
Good luck to all. Go TL Guys.

placement were intentionally rigged so he got an easy group.

This thread apparently shows all the math and proves that Idra has already secured S class. Didn't double-check it myself, but I'll trust their word :-)

I'm actually getting really excited to see all the TL guys and other foreigners play. I don't get on the whole foreigner-fanboy wagon a lot, but just having so many non-Koreans being there and qualifying is pretty amazing, and good for the scene overall. Will definitely be pulling for them next week.

Seeing as most of my favorite tosses are out, rooting for NEXGenius, Moon (Liberty) and the foreigners. Hoping for an awesome GSL.

Edit: Also noticed that WC3 RainBoW (LiberoPrime) is up against Genius in the first match. Dammit, wanted to see both of them do well.

First: If Sen wins, He will have to play Nestea in the 2nd round, other good people include JooktoJung . Makaprime, NexGenius.

If Haypro wins he has to play Hopetorture AND THEN fruitdealer!! Talk about tough group. (Jos is in this group as well aka RET)... Oh yeah... Foxer and KyrixZenith is in this group as well.

Jinro is in Idra's group along with MVP, SlayersBoxer and CheckPrime... Looks like it will be really tough, but I am hoping for a foreigner AT LEAST ro4 :D

I thought Boxer is against a zerg, which is his worst matchup. In fact, he could face only zergs in his group.

Giving BoxeR [the real one] preferable brackets etc [this seems to be the general consensus] only makes good business sense for GOM, you can't really blame them for that.

It's like blaming GOM for giving foreigners easier brackets in the prelims. For all three season prelims, foreigners have gotten multiple bys and at most one decent Korean in order to advance. If they want to promote their league as "Global" it only makes sense for them to get as many foreigners into the ro64 as they can, especially since there aren't many to begin with.

Giving Boxer a few terrans helps him a little bit, but he still has some nasty good opponents on his way through the brackets.

Yeah I love TvZ

In PvZ, that first 4gate push (that every protoss does..) is always super tense, becuase it is basically what decides the fight, and a zerg usually just barely holds.

oh poor july, kwanro stole his crown of favourite zerg in bw, and he cant do anything to claim a spot in my heart as a sc2 player. old guy should retire.

remember how he said that he could be anybody from gsl1 only to fail in gsl2?

I hope there will be less rigging/match-up manipulation (whatever you want to call it) when the 2011 season starts and there are seeds. I understand that it is necessary to some extent right now since a pure randomization of the brackets could result in some weird & hilarious scenarios.

Fortunately, with each progressive round, the random factor will become more tangible with upsets, etc.

Hmmm... I kinda like handpicking. Allows you to rank players based on something other than arbitrary seed points or unbalanced rankings. I think they've done a really good job of designing an interesting tournament.

This of course also depends on Nestea, Hopetorture etc actually winning their matches. I don't understand why the foreigners are always uncertain and the famous koreans are 100% guaranteed locks to proceed.

Same reason we always expect Huk to be top8 in MLG tournies. The starting brackets are "easy" and the invincible players should get through them "easily".

If the foreigners win 5 games between them all we've made a mark on Korea. It would mean we preformed better than average against the Korean Pros. If Ret wins, Hellz ya!

^ Foreigners performed better than average in the last GSL as well.

IdrA, Loner and TLO were the only foreigners. They combined for 4 wins which is above average .

Looks like Jinro will have the easiest way to get code S. Ret and Idra can make ro8 with luck on their side. I feel sorry for HayprO and Sen they are in very hard sides of their groups.

Decent job spreading out the foreign players. Could be better but could be worse.

Sen is in trouble. Nestea in a ZvZ in the ro32? That is a hard MU.

IdrA's got some tough times ahead, steppes and jungle basin on his ro64 match(any info on what maps he excluded? weird that he didnt go for steppes at the very least) and then he may face mvp on ro32 although i think IdrA can definitely do it!

Aw, I only just noticed that all our Liquid foreigners (I count Idra as well ) are in only two of the brackets . I was really hoping they'd be spread out across all 4. Given how few foreigners there are, you'd think that whoever organises the brackets would give them a higher chance of advancing; because currently, even under the best of circumstances (and that's already quite unlikely), we can only have 2 foreigners in the semifinals.

If I'm not mistaken, IMMvP is #1 on KR ladder, and ofc a former A-team progamer.

Knowing that, I wonder how people rate Idra's chances if the games are played like he likes it - macro style.

If MVP can beat every zerg in macro style games, he'll become the terran hero.

This is the reason why I don't consider Foxer a threat as he was in S2 because once people catch on to his style what is he going to do?

I prefer to cheer for someone who's play style will have long-term success and will still be good after all the balances and new maps come into play.

Are the races messed up in these brackets? or are they messed up on GOMTV's schedule?
Cyrano is Zerg on GOMTV (so ret playing ZvZ they say), and Choa playing Protoss on GOMTv, not Terran (So Gomtv says Idra in ZvP not ZvT)

which source is correct? I don't know anything about these two players..

But who did Idra piss off? Shakuras is a great map for him, but Steppes and Slightly-Better-Steppes? Ugh.

Anyone else think the bracket team did a terrible job on these brackets?

Group A and D, pretty light brackets, nothing too crazy until the Ro8.

Group B, 3 ZeNEX members in the same quadrant??? wtf is this? Kyrix already had to teamkill his friend in the qualifiers, now you're going to lump him in with 2 more teammates in the same quad? Really lame.

Then group C, I don't even know what to say. This is the most unbalanced group I've ever seen in my life. Almost every player is amazing. Top left is pretty soft and then...oh wow, GuineaPig vs Junwi! Clide vs Leenock!! Then you look at the other half...3 strong oGs members! cOre vs JulyZerg!! Convenient how BoxeR is the only one with an "easy" road to Ro16, but man, really, seed your brackets better. Talented players like Clide, cOre, GuineaPig getting such strong zergs in round 1 is sick.

TLDR: We're going to get a lot more unknowns than we should into the Ro16 and beyond because of how stacked group C is.

To be honest, I think this is probably the most balanced bracket compared to previous GSL open seasons. Yea, obviously BoxeR is the most likely to get TvTs, but hey, all the foreigners got split up. To say that any of the brackets are 'light' is probably unfair, I think if the favoured players all perform through Ro64, almost every matchup in Ro32 is going to be hard now.

Predictions ^_^:
Day1:
+ Show Spoiler +

(Z)NesTea vs (T)Jys [2 : 0]
Nestea's got this, he's in great shape overall as a zerg and Jys isn't known enough to pose a viable threat to our current champ.

(P)oGsVines vs (Z)Sen [1:2]
No idea how Vines plays but I see Sen taking this one through shear macro games. Vines may pull off a cheesy build here and take a game but I don't see him winning the series.

(T)LittleBoy vs (Z)JookToJung: [0 : 2]
I'm inclined to give it to JTJ here because I have no idea how good LittleBoy is seeing as though i've never seen him play. Also TvZ makes it a lot easier to predict IMO (j/k).

(T)MakaPrime vs (Z)Sleep: [2 : 0]
Maka's a damn good terran, overlooked by people like FoxeR, ITR, BoxeR, I think Maka ranks high up there. Sleep is relatively unknown but I don't see him taking this either way.. Maka hwaiting!

(Z)oGsTheWinD vs (Z)GoldenfOu [2:1]
Never seen goldenfOu play, TheWind is a solid zerg, so he should be able to pull off the victory despite the randomness of ZvZ.

Day2:
+ Show Spoiler +

(T)Rache vs (P)BoogieBoy [2: 0]
Giving this one to the T player, because BoogieBoy has to be one of the worst aliases i've seen, not quite as bad as 'hotmail' though.

(Z)DreamizEr vs (T)Rain [0 : 2]
Don't know either player, ;_;

(T)Libero vs (P)Genius [0: 2]
Cmon, not going to vote against arguably the world's best toss currently.

(T)RainBOw vs (Z)NewDawn [2: 0]
RainBOw is too solid a terran player to lose to someone of neverdawn's caliber. Depending on who he faces I think RainbOw will get far in the tournament again, only to lose to someone in the quarters or semis >_>.

(T)BitByBit vs (Z)HayprO [1:2]
Gotta give it to a foreigner, HayprO is a pretty underrated zerg, while he's facing a relatively unknown terran player, he should come out on top depending how hard he's practiced for this. I believe he's practiced a lot based on the fact he has qualified. Foreigners, hwaiting!

Day3:
+ Show Spoiler +

(Z)Tosyad vs (Z)FruitDealer [0 : 2]
Former GSL champ vs someone who i've never seen before.. hmm.

(T)sCfOu vs (T)Bless [2:1]
Both players are good, it's just a matter of who's TvT mechanics are better. I think Bless (assuming he's lyn) is more inexperienced in comparison to sCfOu who's put in a lot of time into the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lyn fan but his priorities aren't SC2 at the moment, the fact he's qualified for GSL with WC3 on the side is remarkable. However sCfOu should take this one.

(P)anyproPrime vs (T)TheBestfOu [2 : 0]
Ooh, this should be a good one, I think anypro is the better player here and should come out on top. I don't really know much about 'TheBest' but he is in fOu which is a very good team. So both players should play well depending on who's more in shape than the other. Anypro should win it though.

(Z)NEXNaya vs (P)HongUnPrime [0 : 2]
Dunno Naya that well, HongUn is a veteran and an overall solid toss, he's got my vote.

Day4:
+ Show Spoiler +

(Z)ret vs (P)Cyrano [2 : 1]
ret hwaiting! one of the most talented foreigner zergs ever, he's proven to have gotten a lot better since his shaky start in SC2. He seems more focused than ever in getting better and if he can bring back the fire he had in BW, I think he's going to be one of the best foreigners we've seen in a long time. With that being said, I think he can take this game, how far he'll go beyond that is up for debate, but I have faith in one of my favourite foreign zergs :D.

(T)JSLZenith vs (Z)Kyrix [0:2]
Kyrix, no contest. Guy's an animal, probably a top 5 zerg IMO. JSL is good but not great, Kyrix almost beat FoxeR who's a player much better than JSL.

(T)BoxerPrime vs (Z)NEXLine [2: 0]
FoxeR hwaiting! This should be easy for him.

(R)GuMihofOu vs (Z)Monster [0:2]
Dunno either player but giving it to Monster because Monster is a pretty badass name.

(P)GuineaPig vs (Z)Junwi [0:2]
*yawn* See you in ro32 Junwi.

Day5:
+ Show Spoiler +

(T)Clide vs (Z)Leenock [1:2]
Cliiiiiiide, why are you so good? and by good I mean good at losing in ro64/ro32 of GSL ;/ Leenock is a solid Z, he'll come out on top, maybe with a little oppression on the side of Clide but I predict an outclassing by our Zerg player here.

(Z)Max vs (T)oGsHyperdub [0:2]
Dunno Max, but Hyperdub is an amazing terran, I predict Hyperdub via rape.

(P)oGsMC vs (T)OdinMvP [2: 0]
Dunno who this 'Odin' guy is but I think MC probably the rank #2 toss in the world right now will come out on top.

(Z)July vs (P)cOreZenith [2: 0]
Gotta go with the BW legend here :D

Day6:
+ Show Spoiler +

(T)aLivefOu vs (Z)oGsZenio [0 : 2]
Alive's going to be dead once Zenio gets through to him.

(T)PoltPrime vs (Z)NsP.Joon [2: 0]
Dunno Joon but Polt's a very standard T player, but he's damn good at that. I like his bio plays and we'll probably see more of that from him to win against this Z player.

(T)Jinro vs (Z)NEXDrug [1:2]
I love JinrO as much as the next guy, he's shown some great progress as a player especially after winning MLG:Dallas. However I think this is where the road ends for him, he might not fair well against korean zergs, his style seems way too passive to win a series over a good zerg. We'll see.

(Z)Moon vs (T)ButterflyEffect [2: 0]
I'm a wc3 moon fanboy, so this one's a bit biased, just a bit though. Moon hwaiting!

(Z)IdrA vs (P)NEXChoa [2:1]
I feel as though IdrA will repeat his last GSL appearances by making it as far as ro16 and losing. He's a great zerg but his style is way too one-dimensional, he lacks the creative style to solidify him as a contender for the finals. He will however defeat Choa a relatively unknown P player who's probably not as good.

Day7:
+ Show Spoiler +

(T)IMMVP vs (P)Banbanssu [2: 0]
MVP wants to cement himself as a top terran and I think this is the GSL to do it. He's a very good ladder player but he needs to prove himself offline. With that being said, I think this is going to be a free round for him.

(Z)AnnYeong vs (P)Choya [0:2]
Dunno AnnYeong but Choya's a beast, so Choya via ownage.

(T)Destination vs (Z)CheckPrime [0 :2]
Check is one of the best zergs in this tournament, his impressive ladder record and strong past gsl appearances spell out a very bad day for our T player Destination over here.

(T)SlayerSBoxeR vs (T)NEXON [2: 0]
The fucking Emperor, you can't .. bah! I can't even describe how one-sided this game will be.

Yes, brackets are done primarily so that if there are as few mirrors as possible, with the exception of the most common races getting mirrors so that there is a better split of races going into the Ro32 and Ro16. The last 2 seasons have also never had teammates taking each other out until the Ro16, but this time they failed in that regard. Not too sure what other things they take into account when making the brackets though. Next year it will be seeded off of ranking.

hmm, didn't July try to qualify for GSL S1 or 2 as terran? I thought I read that somewhere - glad he's switching "back" to zerg, as that was his BW race gogogo God of War!

Wow, if IdrA loses on Shakuras, he is doomed. Steppes and Jungle are like the two worst maps for ZvP.

I am really sorry about this if it's already been stated in this thread, but I can't really search through 27 pages.

Can someone give a list of who all the big-name players lost to in the qualifiers? By them I mean of course: Inca, Top, Ensnare, Huk, SangHo, Tester, Select, Loner, Incontrol, and of course Nada.

Again, sorry if this has already been given. Big thanks in advance.

Day 1
Day 2

The Day 1 recap doesn't show who they lost to, and the Day 2 recap doesn't show who the players I mentioned lost to.

Although, it is interesting to see that Kyrix had to commit teamkill just to get into this tournament. Judging by the way he's playing and how these brackets are set up, looks like he's going to have to cannibalize a lot of his own team this season...

IdrA's got some tough times ahead, steppes and jungle basin on his ro64 match(any info on what maps he excluded? weird that he didnt go for steppes at the very least) and then he may face mvp on ro32 although i think IdrA can definitely do it!

not positive, but pretty sure this season there's no excluding maps for players. just gotta play where they put ya. interesting choice, imo, might spice up the tourney, might blatantly make/break some matches to too significant a degree. i think they should have kept the exclusion system and used the feedback in future map development("hm, what's this, EVERY high level player of race x excludes map x? what can we fix about that....")
