IMNesTea, 'A fantasy became a reality.'
'Detective' IMNesTea became the champion of Sony Ericsson StarCraft 2 Open Season 2 after beating 'King of Marines' BoxeRPrime with a score of 4:3.
Q. How does it feel to win the tournament? A. I always imagined myself playing on a big stage. I would have been satisfied by just reaching the finals. I even imagined myself kissing that trophy once season 2 began, and I'm ecstatic that a fantasy became a reality.
Q. You started out the series 0:2. A. I prepared thinking I wouldn't lose the first set. When I was cheese rushed, I thought to myself this would be a rough day. In the second set, I had a chance to play it out, but I wasn't able to perform under pressure. I had a lot of confidence on Scrap Station, so I was relieved to win on that map. My coach settled me down so I was able to play comfortably.
Q. You began by playing SC:BW, what did you think when you switched to SC2? A. When I quit being a coach to play again, I didn't think of participating in tournaments. However, as I played more, I improved a lot so I thought I could do fairly well. The game doesn't require the highest APM, so I thought that fit me pretty well.
Q. What did you think of when playing the last set? How about right before you won? A. I was expecting him to play the way he played out the first set with 2 barracks and scv support. I judged that if I didn't let him control my entrance, I could win, so when that attack came I thought it was possible for me to win.
Q. How are you going to spend the prize money? A. I will put most of it into my savings. I'm going to give some for my mom to spend and buy her warm winter clothing. I will also treat my friends and teammates to delicious food, but most of it will go into savings.
Q. BoxeR said before the match that he will win purely on marines. How does it feel to have experienced that? A. It is very strong. I practiced a similar scenario to the first set at least 200 times and was able to defend it well in practice. I guess the pressure of the first set got to me so I got dismantled.
Q. How do you evaluate your play in the finals? A. I think I played with just 70% of my full ability. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to show everything I got, but I will show everyone in the next season.
Q. You've succeeded being a 30 year old progamer, what are your future plans? A. There are many cases of players becoming worse as they age. I think the most important thing is self-conditioning. I believe that you can still do well if you are fit at an older age.
Q. You didn't make any hydralisks in the third set. A. My original plan was to make hydraslisks and attack, but I thought I could still win without them. [note: a question that's not really related to anything... but I will translate nonetheless just noting I didn't plug this in lolol]
Q. What are your plans for season 3 and the 2011 seasons? A. I will prepare just as well for season 3. I want to have this feeling again. In 2011, I want to show everyone my full capabilities. I want to enflame the passion of a 30 year old.
Q. You're well known as a 'detective zerg', how did you prepare for BoxeR's strategies? A. I personally prefer powerful macro games. I think I got that nickname since so many players tried to play tricky strategies against me. I thought I could win if I just deflected the initial marine push. Everything went well in the seventh set.
Q. Any comments? A. I want to thank my family for always supporting and trusting me. I also want to thank my dad who is looking down on me from above, I wish he could be here...[note: omg I almost cried while translating this] Thanks to my girlfriend, as well as friends, teammates and the coach. IMmvp helped me out a lot preparing for the finals. It would have been impossible to win without him. Team IM fighting!

Props for super fast translation. Really appreciate how many articles you (and Selith, etc) have been translating for us lately. Thanks!

I started rooting for Foxer, but ended up roting for Nestea. keke.
Why . . .
|
|
I rooted for Foxer but I'm happy for NesTea. Finally finding the success that he was looking for ever since his BW days.

I think if people would have known about his family situation, he would have had like infinitely more supporters. I'm really glad the dude won.
|
Thanks alot for the translation! And damn that was fast o_O Thumbs up!
|
I'm glad he won, thanks for the translation good interview.
|
That is so win lol. Rooted for Foxer but I'm not mad at NesTea for winning. He showed that even at 30 years old you can still perform at the top and win a major event as the GSL.
|
|
FoXeR still has a lot to learn, the last few games showed it, I cheered for him, I will continue to do so (hope he doesn't end up being only an early game player). As for NesTea - great play, he did what was right, overall a solid play.
EDIT: Hope he joins the SlayerS team.

Well done Nestea, you have done yourself and zerg proud. Let's see more of the same in season 3!
|
Q. How are you going to spend the prize money? A. I will put most of it into my savings. I'm going to give some for my mom to spend and buy her warm winter clothing. I will also treat my friends and teammates to delicious food, but most of it will go into savings.
Lol. Yup. He was a BW pro.
gratz though, this was a really entertaining tourny.
|
thanks for the translation. Big huge <3 for NesTea. All these guys are such good people it makes me so happy.
|
Speedy translation :D Good job! Such a magnificent winner all around, it could have gone either way and I would have been satisfied! Foxer, your time will come!
|
Yay NesTea. So sad about his father . But at least he can make his mother happy.
Thanks for the very good and speedy translation, love it.
|
Congrats on the win. A very deserved win
|
Thanks for the translation

mvp is such a beast incredibly he isnt scode...
|
I hope his dad doesn't get winter clothes.
|
detective zerg? never heard that on tl.net. guess they just made it up so blizz can draw a hydralisk in a trenchcoat...
|
thanks for the translation!
Nice that he finally gets such an achievment. He must be very happy now! Pretty cool for him to have mvp on his team for practice :p
|
Beware of the TeaLing! ^_^
|
Hehe, Detective Zerg and his Sherlock Drones.
|
I can't believe ZergBong won after his only notable achievement in BW being sitting next to Reach in 2v2s

thanks for translating~ originally i was mad at NesTea for taking out my man Foxer but, then i remembered that he was a KT coach so it was ok to root for him in fact the KT manager even congratulated him on twitter right after the finals ended, I guess he was watching: "재덕아 ㅠㅠ 축하해 ㅜㅜ 1억타고 놀러온다했으니 기다릴게 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ" http://twitter.com/#!/KTRolster/status/3428586014900224

Nestea played the best of anyone in this tournament, no losses until the final simply reinforce that
|
This would've been unbelievable 3 months ago, nevermind the times when he was known as Zergbong, a captain figure/2v2 player that never performed up to par back when he was in KTF.
|

because of his incredible skill in scouting out proxy rax apparently

Wow, so he trained with mvp. I guess that's where his strength against marines comes from.

Fantastic games!! Really happy he won and still is so humble about it. Pro gamers at its best

I hope incontrol reads this, he'll love what NesTea says he'll do with the money, lol. Grats NesTea!

That's awesome, I'm pretty sure the whole KT team was rooting him on .

|
Best bo7 ever ever. Both would have deserved to take this down, i think Nestea played probably a chunk better and deserved to win it. Maybe Foxer a little bit too predictable and cheesy, but of course very strong play of both. God i hope Season 3 will be just as awesome!
|
Great interview. Nestea seems like a cool guy (like almost every SC player ^^ ). I'm glad we won over those marine+scv rushes.
Thanks for the translation, Canucks

LOL. this is a masterpiece

Holy Hell
I thought I'd never see the day that Zergbong is a chamion of something

That tweet says: "Hey Zergbong Congratz! You said you'll come over after winning 100 million won, so I'll be waiting lololololol."
something like that.

Rofl this is awesome,
God its getting harder and harder to not get these season passes... maybe il shell out for season 3.
|
Great series, was rooting for foxer but nestea played really well - deserved the win overall I feel.
And wow I want one of those, that's awesome! o.o (Maybe blizzard should start selling starcraft themed tobacciana? :D I know i'd love a hydra-bong or baneling-bong!)
|
NesTea totally deserved this, Foxer/Optimus has many years of pro gaming ahead of him, and hes too cheesy. I hope Bliz can move the game beyond all the marine vs. zergling games we are seeing.

At first he was like
but then

i watched the VODs, but I seriously did not know who was gonna win it all until about 5 minutes into game 7
and I downloaded the first 4 VODs, then one at a time, so I had to buffer...it was a tense wait, there's not much more I can ask for - well fought by both players, and I'm really happy for NesTea (we're the same age so yeah, it's cool to see old men like us playing well)
|
Congratulations to NesTea!
I was rooting for Foxer the whole way, but I'm still very happy for NesTea. He seems like a nice guy and he is very deserving of his prize. Certainly an amazing Zerg player.
GSL 3 is shaping up to be so exciting now! Get to see how these two do again, get more foreigners, get to see Boxer/Nada (maybe others??) hopefully too! Can't wait!

nestea, you are SO solid. i love you.
|
thanks for translate dude. best player won. grats nestea,
|
Was rooting for Foxer, but NesTea deserved the victory. He is a worthy champion. The fact that he is a 30 year old pro-gamer brings out more to the table.
Perhaps the age limitation for Starcraft would not be as severe as in BW. Perhaps this is a sign of progression. Screw APM.
|
I would've been happy if either won it, it was a great final. Looking forward to GSL3!
|
good job with the translation
|
I'm so happy for him! Seems like a really good guy.
|
NOOOOOO Foxer Well done Nestea, well done!
|
Im not gonna lie, i really didnt enjoy this series that much. Veeeery cheesey.
|
Yeah any game last more than 7 min? Maybe g2 right?
|
I don't see why games have to be long-lasting to be fun.
I mean, if every game in the GSL was short then yeah, there's a problem, but sometimes short games with cheese are the most exciting to watch. What would SC be without its Kwanros? Kind of boring, honestly. You need all kinds.
|
Grats NesTea! I can't wait for the next GSL!

i wonder what artwork blizzard is gonna do for neastea. maybe a zerg tea? haha

While I was rooting for Foxer it feels better that Nestea won considering his feelings and his "situation".
|
Both players showed such emotion at the end of the 7th set, I feel like season 1 doesn't compare (emotion wise). Even John's speech at the end added to the air of it, was a really powerful way to wrap up the tournament.. Kinda makes you appreciate the player as a person- with their own trials they have had to face in life.. Not just as another gamer who wants to win.
Good show! :D Thanks for the translation.
|
I'm very happy with the result, even though I liquibet Foxer and I like terran generally. They did give us exciting games, though I really did long for longer games by the end (a little disappointed to see double rax + SCV's AGAIN in the final set).
|
two zergs in a row they must be imba hahaha jkjk. i was pulling for him in this series i think boxerprime go a little nervous knowing he dismantled slayersboxer and that affected his play. opening with cheese definitely supports the argument, you wouldn't do that if u felt comfortable with the MU.
|
I want a Interview with John
|
By the way, who's that good-looking chick interviewing both players before and after the match?
|
|
Thanks a lot for translating this
I think i find an error thought, i don't know if it was a part of the original article or not, but i'll mention it anyway.
"Q. What are your plans for season 3 and the 2010 seasons? A. I will prepare just as well for season 3. I want to have this feeling again. In 2011, I want to show everyone my full capabilities. I want to enflame the passion of a 30 year old."
Shouldn't it be "2011"?
|
Its interesting that he said that the game doesn't require the highest APM to compete. We have heard that from several other players and to me it seems that SC2 at the highest level will be dominated by the experienced more seasoned SC1 veterans for a long time. They may not have the APM for SC1 any more but they have all the routine and good decision-making. For a neutral viewer this could be good because it may be more a batlle of wits than before.
|
Thanks for the translation; great interview! GJ NesTea!
|
Man, I still think fondly back on Zergbong vs Skyhigh and Rise from SC2gg questioning if ZergBong even knew what the Zerg is .
How vindicated ZergBong must be now, taking it all in the GSL2! I wanted Foxer to win, but I don't feel terrible about Nestea winning either - both were players I would have been happy to see win .
|
Great interview. Congrats NesTea
|
Thank you for the translation!
|
Cool interview.
While I wanted FoxeR to win, I'm OK with NesTea being the champion now. He seems to be a nice guy, and considering this was basically his last chance and BoxeR still has most of his gaming career ahead, it's probably for the better that he won.
|
I remember watching ZergBong play BW and thinking he was just some small time guy who was gonna fade away into nothing. How happy I am to have been wrong.
|
"...I also want to thank my dad who is looking down on me from above,..."
What does this mean really? Is his dad alive, but looking down on him for doing what he loves, or is his dad in heaven?

wow, congratulations nestea, great job! xD
hopefully I can watch these games sometime soon!!

Nestea's situation reminds me of Xellos (check out National Geographic's World Cyber Games on youtube lol)
GGs! Congratulations! :D
Btw is this IMmvp the same one from SC1? and did he not qualify for GSL 2? Or did i just miss him...
hurray for "old" player winning :D this is another good step for esports; lengthening the life span of a progamer!
|
He is indeed the same MVP from Woongjin... and he made it into Ro16 and got knocked out by oGsZenio

Was goin for FoxeR but was happy for NesTea when he won. FoxeR's new name is super lame, OptimusPrime, really?
Oh well, it was a fun finals to watch and I'm stoked to see what happens in GSL 3. Stoked to see how many from TL qualify!

A TRUE CHAMPION! The testament to keep SC an epic macro game, not Rushcraft 2. The miracle defense of all miracles game 7. I called it, Close Spawn, Blind 14 hatch, Blind double rax cheese by Foxer except unlike game 1 we would have a godlike defense by NesTea. GG
After game 1 I was a little worried, but after game 2(even though he lost) I felt his skill, determination, and ability and felt reassured that he could come back from a 0-2 deficit. Even after SUCH AN disadvantageous position he kept holding on and turned the tables. He lost that game on LT, regardless of it, I felt the momentum switch to him. Epic

I'm rooting for foxer, but being 30 and win major tournament won me over, I just can't hate NesTea for that sole reason
Hope foxer can improve next season and win it, it will boring to see another Z won the GSL 3. But if Protoss can win it, I will be super happy. I still can't figure out how to play P, especially against Z .. *sigh.
ps: did foxer change his name to Optimus? Lol, that would be hilarious.

Are you kidding me? That name is hilarious! It's obvious he has a sense] of qumor I was also going for BoxeR, but happy for NesTea.
Btw. Did Boxer switch to Toss? or why is his liquipedia saying he is Toss? D:

What does this mean really? Is his dad alive, but looking down on him for doing what he loves, or is his dad in heaven? Looking down on me from above usually implies that he is passed away.. at least for me anyways lol
or up, depending on his character

I disagree with the notion that foxer was cheesing. What he was doing was a natural response to a zerg who takes early expansions. In fact, going greedy with a super early expansion can be considered a cheese. Whenever a player over extends themselves, be it a rush or fast tech or over expanding, that player will either be punished or given a huge advantage. Foxer was correctly trying to punish Zergbong for his FE play.

Wow. I rooted for Foxer, but now I really like Nestea too. awesome player.

what an absolute fucking baller, a true inspiration and a great guy by the looks of it, so deserving ^^, its awesome how both the GSL winners have very inspiring story's behind them, i hope that they can play for a long time to come.

I also rooted for BoxeR being a fellow Terran, but NesTea's story is awesome finally breaking into the bank! WP NesTea! Still my hero, BoxeR!

What.... has Zergbong won something ? He was maybe the most awful BW pro of all times. SKT zergs ftw I guess.

Nice interview. I was hoping for foxer to pull out the victory, but the best player won in the end. Good job nestea.

That's not ironic ... at all ...
Grats to Nestea was hoping he would make it 4-0 to have an undefeated ride to victory, but hey can't complain
Can't wait to see what incontrol says about his money plans lol.
