Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz Dual/Quad Core Corsair 2GB (1x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Nvidia GT240 1GB ASRock H55M 510w Power Supply
Just wondering if this will play SC2 on high / ultra , looking to buy it whenever i get the cash as budget is an issue. And just wondering if this is a good PC, im fairly clueless when it comes to upgradeing.
Thanks!

im gonna buy a new desktop for SC2 in a few months...and unlike many ppl...im not gonna buy something that can barely run it on low to mid settings....im gonna buy a fuckin monster that could run SC2 ten times at once. im looking at maybe...1300-1400ish USD's...without the monitor and other peripherals.... ..so just the tower. im probably gonna go with the i7-920 or 930 (LGA 1366) with some nice graphics card...so sure which one yet...but my main question is for the RAM.
im sitting here with my 2006 P4 3.0GHz with 1GB ram...and im reading posts from some nerds writing that they now have 6Gigs of ram...which of course seems a lot from my perspective... but ive seen that other nerds have 12GB of RAM....now thats really gangsta. thats what im talking about....but is it useful? can any technical dude here give me an example of a situation where 6 GB might not be enough? im talking mostly from a gamer's perspective but could this help me return searches faster from my 530GB music collection?
thx
you only need more than 6gb+ of ram if you are opening up gigantic excel spreadsheets and VERY large files like that. 6gb will do.

get 6GB of RAM. Spend the money you would spend on the extra 6GB on a SSD :>
RAM does not help you search through your hard drive, a faster hard drive helps you search through your hard drive!
Xtra: I would say medium, but I'm being a bit conservative. High is definitely possible

My mac. (Need I say anymore? =P)
and my 50 inch monitor. (Yus my monitor's biggar than yours.)
No seriously.
I will be playing on a 50 inch MONITOR (rental). For one week only, in the week it comes out hopefully. But I think it will be worth it.
Only scared that maybe the graphics will stretch out bad? Ah well.
SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM FTW!!

I can't see any advantage (or any benefit, just more space to have to watch imo)
|
i think on a 50" it'l be stretched to the point where you wont be able to see the entire screen in your direct line of sight, you'll have to use your peripheral vision! and you'll get a sore neck pivoting it around the screen!

i changed my mind....i won't upgrade my P4 until the intel Sandy Bridge 8 cores CPUs come out in Q3 2011..by which time SSD's will finally reach a reasonable fuckin price. i'll be playing SC1 on my comp or SC2 on friends' comps until then.. im skipping Nehalem yo
i have no clue what the # of cores actually mean but its kinda cool saying you got 8 of them.

A lot of assumptions there :/

not assuming anything, intel releases a lot of info about their roadmap for 1 to 2 years ahead. Sandy Bridges have already been shipped to consumers for testing. Mass production confirmed for late 2010. mainstream versions get released Q1 2011...and ballers like me will get the high-end versions Q3 2011

Made my computer not too long ago, not much more of an improvement of my old one, but I'm happy with it.
Win7 64bit AMD PhenomII x4 955 4 GB DDR3 1333mhz 1024 GB ATI 5850 1 TB Samsung 7200 RPM 64 MB HDD. Wondering if I should blow money on an SSD. A small one mainly for games that I play often or for OS. I felt on my older computer which had 2 drives 1 for games/apps and other for OS/Storage performance was much better. Any opinion on SSD 40 GB or less? Monitor: Samsung 23" 1920x1080

Assuming a logical price on the 8 cores (loool)
I actually considered waiting for Sandy Bridge, but from what I've seen, it looks like a die shrink and not much else. AMD's Bulldozer looks sooo much more interesting.

you think the 160GB intel SSD wont go down in price at least a little bit for 15 months? ^_^
core i7-920 costs about $290 now. it was launched in 2008 for $284
Sandy Bridge is the same type of launch as Nehalem (the tick-tock thing) ..so, based on that, we can guess the Sandy Bridge will have a reasonable price

Basically a SSD is worth it if you have the money to spend, but keep in mind that it won't actually change that much when you're playing the actual game. Your load times and OS startup will improve drastically, but considering the rest of your components (ie you have enough RAM), if you're looking to increase your FPS I wouldn't recommend a SSD just for that. 40GB is fine if you're only planning on using it for SC2, OS and ~2 more games. Keep in mind though that those sizes actually differ from what you really have. For instance: 1 GB =^= 1000 MB // Intel 1 GB =^= 1024 MB // Windows
If you do plan on getting one, I suggest going for an Intel SSD because they're more or less the best in the market at the moment.

OS: Windows 7 64Bit CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 E0 Stepping @ 3.00GHZ GPU: EVGA 9800GT 512MB RAM: Corsair Dual Channel DDR2 2x2GB PC2-6400 DHX HDD: Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM
Runs pretty well when everything is on ultra/high settings. I am on stock air cooling so my only gripe is that my gpu temperature goes up to 72C when I play on ultra so I nudge the setting down to medium. With medium my gpu temperature is at 62C-65C. I will probably invest in water cooling after I am done with university but for now I cannot afford it.

Right now im running 2.4 duo core 2g of ram 350 wattage PSU Shitty MoBo i dont even know what it is. 8300 GeForce with 512 mb 260gb HD (I think, from memory, at work) windows XP operating system dell keyboard/mouse
as of right now i run starcraft 2 great on the lowest settings. That is until in a 2v2 you get 4 people with 100+ armies. Then i lag a little. Other than that its great....haha. I need to upgrade but I only got about $10,000 saved up. And that isn't much in the real world. Ha Ha.

WIndows XP SP3 Intel E6750 (2.6ghz dual core) nVidia 8800GT 2GB Ram 250gb HD
Can run on ultra; however, I run at lowest settings to maximize frames and to see everything more clearly.

Made my desktop about 11 months ago, plan on upgrading it around Black Friday later this year:
OS: Windows 7 x64 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Mobo: ASRock A780GXE/128M RAM: 4GB DDR2 OCZ Platinum GPU: Sapphire Radeon 4850 X2 2GB HDD: Western Digital 640GB 7200RPM PSU: OCZ 700W
I plan on upgrading to i7 since my CPU is very much bottlenecking my gaming performance. GPU is plenty strong enough for any games I might be playing, so it'll probably be at least another year before that gets upgraded.
