Corlath: On lowest setting I wouldn't worry too much! You should be fine
Plasemeious: Your gfx is really bad as you say, but you can upgrade it to something decent for a few bucks... Perhaps you can run it at the lowest settings though

I have three rigs
File Server OS SUSE Linux CPU Intel P4 3.6 ghz Ram 4 Gig Video 512 Mg Sapphire HD 5 T
Main OS Windows 7 64 CPU I7 920 2.66 ghz Ram 6 Gig Video 1 Gig ATI HD 2 T
Alt OS Windows Vista 32 CPU I5 750 2.67 ghz Ram 4 Gig Video 1 Gig ATI HD 1.5 T

Clanmaster:
Do you want to know if you can run it or are you just positing? Your main and alt will ofc run it no problem, and your file server will too, but it's hard to say how well without knowing the graphics card. 512 megs can be a mid range card by today's standards or a dated one...

Windows Vista 2 GB of DDR2 RAM Dual core 2.2GHZ Intel processor (E2180) Some built in cheapo mobo ON board Nvidia (690FX or something pretty bad) 2 x 160 GB SATA (really bad read/write speed) ^^^^^^only $150 two years ago what a buy! This is about my worst machine that I could get SC2 to run on. You probably don't want to drop anything below this as this lags super bad in any large battle and micro is nearly impossible in any situation above 40 supply. Currently I am running this as both of my other machines are the shop DK.
Once my machines will get back from the shop I will have: Asus Crosshair formula IV mobo AMD Phenom x6 2.8GHZ processor Radeon ICEq video card (775MHZ core and 4GHZ mem w/1GB of DDR5) 6 GB of DDR3 1600 MHZ RAM 1TB SATA 6GB/s HDD Also - Windows 7 This one (got new processor(from AMD phenom quad 2.6 GHZ moved to other rig and ram+4GB) - Also the Bios was corrupted D: ran SC2 beatifully everything at full. :D

Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to purchase a new rig in time for SC2's release. I know my way around a computer... physically anyway. I'm capable of assembling a computer without a problem. But when it comes to the latest components, I'm not so great. I've been shopping around for a bit, and so far this is the best thing I've found. I may be totally wrong though.
I guess what I'd like to know is just how well a rig like this one will be able to run SC2.
http://expc.ca/i-1307-EXPC_GWS_7661.html
Here are the parts: Mobo: ASUS P7H55-M Pro CPU: Intel i5-661 (2x 3.33GHz) GPU : nVidia GT240 1GB Case: CoolerMaster Elite 330 PSU : CM 420W (built-in) 4 gigs of DDR3 ram
The only thing I don't like is that they don't list the brand of the HD... which usually means it's garbage.
Alternatively, does anyone know of a rig within the 500-750$ range that will run SC2 on high to ultra settings?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know about Canada, but in the USA, the i5 750 is similarly priced to the i5 661, and is a much better deal.
The GT 240 1GB GDDR3 is generally considered a terrible buy. The 1GB GDDR3 memory is inferior to the 512MB GDDR5 which can also be on a GT 240. Get the 512MB GDDR5 GT 240 if you are planning on buying it. http://expc.ca/i-12261-ASUS_ENGT240_DI_512MD5_A.html Is the GT 240 I am talking about it.

Good to know Frag. I'll go have a look on newegg and see if I can get a better system thrown together.
Thanks for the input.
EDIT: I changed a few things up. Decided to put in the i-750 like you said and I upgraded to a 1GB GeForce 240 card. Is it overkill though? I'm trying to figure out what will bottleneck first here... the processor or the GPU.
Because I mean, if the processor does first, I'd be tempted to just save myself the few dollars difference between this and the 512MB 240.
Here's a link to the 1GB 240. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130542

I would get the 512MB GDDR5. 1GB is overkill for that card.

It's a newer generation GPU, is roughly 20% faster, supports DX11 and costs pretty much the same. Also with $750 budget you could probably get an X58 board and i7 CPU which would be a much better investment. The i7 920 is pretty much the best bang for the buck at the market right now and it overclocks like crazy. However, just for SC2 your setup will be enough to play the game maxed probably even at 1080p resolution.
My rig:
OS: Windows 7 x64, Slackware Linux CPU: Q6600 at 3.6 Ghz w/ Xigmatek HDT-S1283 HDD: 2x Seagate 7200.12 1Tb RAID 0 + 7200.11 500Gb backup Mobo: DFI Lanparty DK P45-T2RS PLUS PSU: Corsair TX650W Memory: 4Gb OCZ Platinum Case: Fractal Design R5 w/ 6 fans GPU: XFX Radeon HD5770 Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 2253bw
Not exactly the latest stuff, but still cuts it. Perhaps I'll get another 5770 for Crossfire when Crysis 2 is released, as I'm a big fan.

I haven't tested sc2 with my new i7 875k, but I was using a i5 750. I was getting decent fps with everything on ultra, but I turned one or 2 things down because I liked 90+ fps even when zooming in with a lot of units on the screen . I plan on upgrading my gpu's around the retail release.

Ah, always good to see another 5770 user!
Currently running:
CPU: Phenom X555 @3.9Ghz GPU: Shappire ATI 5770 HD RAM: 4GB DDR3 Corsiar XMS3 Mobo: Asus M479XTD - EVO PSU: 500W OCZ StealthXStream HDD: 1x 640GB WD Caviar Black, 1x 2TB WD Caviar Green Right now it runs everything really smooth! Really happy with the performance of this rig!

Here is a general rundown..
#1. Athlon II X4 620 2.6 GHZ 4GB DDR3 500 GB HDD 1GB ATI Radeon 5770 $817
#2. AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHZ 4GB DDR3 500 GB HDD Geforce 9800GT 1GB $825
I'm no expert but I just find it interesting that it would have been the best choice had the AMD Phenom II X4 955 been matched up with the 1GB ATI Radeon 5770. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yeah, the best choice would be the X4 955 w/ the 5770. Plus the 955 would be the Black Edition, so it would be super easy to overclock. Plus, the 5770 has GDDR5 memory and is DX11 ready
